It was obvious that Naruto’s battle with his teachers had not gone unnoticed by the rest of the village.

Men lurking in the shadows had been watching Naruto ever since he arrived the previous day.

His Mokuton clone, created inside the Hokage’s office, along with the Fox’s chakra, even though it was restrained, had also been detected, and the information was quickly passed on to their superiors.

"Danzō-sama, Naruto Uzumaki’s chakra has changed drastically, and the village’s sensory team quickly dispatched jōnin to monitor him because of the highly abnormal increase we had reported earlier... In addition, Naruto Uzumaki created a Wood Clone inside the Hokage’s office..."

Danzō couldn’t hide his astonishment. "Are you saying that the jinchūriki, the one who returned changed after just one week, with greater chakra and different hair, created a Wood Clone? Are you certain it wasn’t Yamato?" he asked in a serious tone, staring at his subordinate with his only eye.

"I can confirm it was the jinchūriki himself, Danzō-sama. I saw it with my own eyes."

Danzō rested both hands on his cane, remaining silent for a few moments. Naruto had left on a mission only a week earlier.

A mission that, in his opinion, Tsunade should never have authorized. Sending Konoha’s greatest military weapon outside the village was an utterly foolish decision.

Now, the boy had returned completely different.

"Find out exactly what happened. I want him under constant surveillance. Also find out what Tsunade knows."

"Understood."

Later, more reports arrived...

"She dismissed all the ANBU so she could have a private conversation with only Kakashi, Yamato, and Jiraiya shortly after the jinchūriki left. We don’t know what was discussed, but only those four remained inside the room," the subordinate reported.

"Excellent. Continue investigating. Inform me of any new developments."

The ninja bowed before disappearing. That was precisely the problem. No one had been able to spy on Tsunade’s private meeting.

Even so, the following reports indicated that everyone present had left the room deeply shaken. Something extremely important had happened inside that office.

And Danzō hated being left in the dark. Wasting no more time, he stood up and headed straight for the Hokage’s office.

At the same time, Root operatives continued watching Naruto. According to the reports, he had remained asleep in his apartment ever since returning at dusk.

When Danzō entered the office, he found Tsunade signing documents while Jiraiya stood beside her.

At that very moment, he noticed something strange. There was caution in both of their gazes. Tsunade kept her eyes on the paperwork, though she watched him from the corner of her eye, while Jiraiya also seemed to be studying him carefully, as though both of them were prepared for any reaction.

That wasn’t normal.

"Danzō... What can I do for you?" Tsunade asked, making no effort to hide her displeasure while keeping her eyes on the documents.

"Tsunade, I’ve already been informed about the changes involving the jinchūriki."

"Naruto Uzumaki," Tsunade corrected immediately. "His name is Naruto Uzumaki..."

Danzō merely looked at her. "Of course... Naruto Uzumaki."

To him, the name was irrelevant. A weapon was still nothing more than a weapon. But he kept that thought to himself.

"I’ve been informed that, besides changing his appearance, Naruto has also awakened an abnormally large amount of chakra and Mokuton. I want to know exactly what happened."

Neither Tsunade nor Jiraiya answered immediately. The two merely exchanged a cautious glance.

Neither of them had any intention of revealing that Naruto had demonstrated far more than just Mokuton that very afternoon.

And for the first time in a very long while, Danzō had the impression that the two of them were prepared to fight him if the conversation got out of hand.

Or rather... they were wary now that they knew Danzō could use that eye to manipulate Naruto.

Danzō had no idea just how cautious Tsunade and Jiraiya had become. The two had even reached the conclusion that, if Danzō attempted anything against Naruto, they would have to confront him immediately.

They couldn’t allow Naruto to fall under the control of his eye. After all, Danzō had no idea that they now knew the true danger hidden beneath the bandages covering his right eye.

"I want to know why Naruto now possesses Mokuton. Has Yamato discovered some way to pass that ability on to someone else?" Danzō asked.

"It’s a long story, Danzō. We can’t give you any explanation right now. Everything is under control. Tomorrow we’ll conduct a few more tests," Tsunade replied without even looking up from the documents she continued signing.

"So you’re saying you still don’t know exactly what happened... and yet you let him leave?" Danzō asked, making his displeasure clear.

Tsunade finally stopped writing and looked up. "Naruto poses no threat at the moment, Danzō. In fact, I’ve already assigned a few ANBU to keep an eye on him as a precaution, if that’s enough to reassure you."

"I’m not concerned about that. What I don’t understand is why we didn’t take him directly to the Interrogation Division."

"You mean the Torture and Interrogation Department? Why would we do that?" Jiraiya answered before Tsunade could even open her mouth. "You’re talking about invading his mind and torturing him." His gaze was filled with contempt as he looked at Danzō.

"That should be done! No one awakens Mokuton out of nowhere. We need immediate answers. Naruto could pose a threat to the village," Danzō replied firmly.

Before he could continue, a powerful fist slammed into the desk.

CRACK!

The wood split apart completely. Danzō stopped speaking and turned his gaze toward Tsunade.

"Leave. This has nothing to do with you. The situation is under my control, Danzō. Stay out of it. That is an order from your Hokage. Understood?" Tsunade said, staring at him unwaveringly.

Danzō met her gaze with his only visible eye. "You’re the Hokage. You should put the village’s safety first," he said with disdain.

"Danzō, the village isn’t being destroyed right now. And as far as I can tell, you already know that the so-called threat you keep talking about is probably sleeping peacefully in a small apartment somewhere inside the village," Jiraiya replied, glaring at him angrily. "As far as I know, there’s nothing threatening about that," he finished with a growl.]

"If anything happens to the village, the responsibility will rest entirely on your shoulders, Hokage. You’re being far too lenient with the jinchūriki." Danzō made a point of not referring to Naruto by name.

He wanted to remind her that, to him, Naruto was still nothing more than the vessel of the Nine-Tailed Fox.

In his view, something had happened to the jinchūriki, and Tsunade should have taken him directly to the Interrogation Division, kept him in custody, and subjected him to every necessary interrogation to ensure everything was under control.

Instead, she had simply allowed him to remain free. Without saying another word, Danzō turned his back and left the office.

As soon as the door closed, Tsunade let out a long sigh. "Damn it... He’s so irritating..." she muttered angrily.

It was easy to understand why old Hiruzen had suffered so many headaches because of him over the years. Tsunade merely turned away as well, exhausted. The two of them understood that feeling perfectly.

In any case, Naruto went out that night. While Tsunade’s ANBU continued monitoring his movements, he spent some time with the friends of his generation.

After escorting Hinata back to the Hyūga Clan, he returned straight home without making any other stops.

But Danzō didn’t give up. That very night, he appeared at someone’s house in one of the most secluded corners of the village.

Sai opened the door and found Danzō surrounded by several members of Root, his former teammates.

"Danzō-sama..." Sai said.

"I need to know exactly everything that happened to Naruto Uzumaki," Danzō said, making no effort to hide the disdain in his voice as he uttered Naruto’s name.

Sai didn’t like the way Danzō spoke about Naruto either. "There’s not much I can tell you."

"Tell me exactly what happened. I’ll find out one way or another," Danzō threatened.

Sai remained silent for a few moments. He had no intention of betraying Naruto’s trust, but there was no harm in recounting only what he had witnessed in Rōran.

"Naruto and Captain Yamato entered an energy created by the Chakra Vein after it reopened while we were pursuing our target. They were consumed by that energy, and when it disappeared, they reappeared. After that... they returned completely different." Sai paused briefly. "I don’t know many details. Only the Hokage knows exactly what happened."

Danzō had expected that answer. It was obvious that Sai was hiding part of the truth. For several seconds, he fixed him with a threatening stare, making it clear that he would regret continuing to conceal information.

Sai, however, held his gaze without saying another word.

"So be it. If the village ends up paying the price because of you, all of you will regret it," Danzō declared before disappearing.

Sai merely let out a long sigh.

When the following morning arrived, Danzō already knew that Naruto would be subjected to several tests.

Because of that, he stationed numerous Root members around the Training Field to observe the entire battle from a distance.

In addition, he used specialized equipment to transmit everything directly to Root Headquarters. Danzō stood motionless before a large screen, surrounded by several of his subordinates.

His grip on his cane tightened more and more.

First came the Adamantine Chains.

Then the Wood Clones.

His expression grew darker with every passing moment.

"How... is he able to possess all of this now?" he murmured.

Naruto had fully awakened the Uzumaki bloodline. Somehow, he had also mastered Mokuton.

His elemental control was far from weak as well. He was even capable of using advanced techniques such as Vacuum Bullets.

And Danzō was absolutely certain that still wasn’t everything. That Wind Release technique was a jutsu he himself had obtained through the Senju Clan’s techniques.

How was Naruto able to use it as well? His need to discover exactly what had happened to the jinchūriki grew stronger with every passing second.

Not once had Danzō imagined that Naruto could become a threat to him... until that day.

After all, in his mind, Naruto was still nothing more than a vessel. A weapon. A beast that, sooner or later, would be brought under his control to strengthen Konoha and make it the most powerful village among the Five Great Nations.

Naruto had never been anything more than a tool—never a threat.

Despite the distrust he had always felt toward the jinchūriki, Danzō never allowed Naruto to be completely alone during his missions.

Whenever Tsunade assigned him to a mission where there was a possibility of losing the Nine-Tailed Fox, Danzō also deployed Root squads to remain hidden from a distance. They were extremely careful not to be detected by jōnin like Kakashi or Yamato, but they were always ready to intervene if it became necessary to prevent the Fox from falling into the wrong hands.

The problem now was different. Naruto was beginning to show that he had become far too powerful a ninja. A man whom perhaps even Danzō himself could no longer stop so easily.

Then, during the recording of the battle, Naruto became enveloped in a golden chakra cloak. Danzō immediately rose from his chair.

"That... That’s the Fox’s chakra!" he exclaimed, completely shocked.

As he watched the fight against Jiraiya, he saw that chakra being shaped in a way he had never imagined possible.

He had already been astonished when Naruto launched a gigantic Rasenshuriken into the forest, causing an explosion so immense that its roar echoed throughout the entire village.

But now...

Naruto was demonstrating complete control over the Nine-Tails’ chakra.

Danzō’s expression darkened completely.

When the battle ended, Danzō immediately went to meet Konoha’s other two advisors.

The two of them were horrified when they heard what he had to say.

"The jinchūriki no longer has the Fox’s seal. He’s using the Nine-Tails’ chakra freely, and no one even knows whether that’s safe. The Hokage herself didn’t verify the situation and simply allowed him to walk freely around the village since yesterday."

"We have to do something!" Homura exclaimed immediately.

Danzō nodded. "Yes. Let’s go speak with the Hokage at once."

Meanwhile, at the Training Field...

"We’re going to Mount Myōboku?" Naruto asked in surprise after hearing Jiraiya’s response to his question.

"Yes," Jiraiya replied. "The first thing we need to do is speak with the Great Sage."

Naruto didn’t find that decision unusual and simply nodded.

He would also need to explain how he had awakened Sage Mode. The toads would certainly become suspicious once they noticed it.

Besides...

He wanted to see Gamabunta again.

"Alright. Let’s go," Naruto said at last.

Jiraiya then formed a series of hand seals and summoned a small toad. He instructed it to take them to Mount Myōboku.

The little toad looked at the scene in surprise. After all, Naruto had never been to Mount Myōboku in this world. During the three years he had trained with Jiraiya, he had never imagined he would be taken there in this way.

After a few seconds of hesitation over whether or not he should take Naruto, the small toad finally nodded.

Before Naruto could react, both he and Jiraiya were swallowed by the toad. The creature then shrank until it could fit inside its own mouth and clapped its front paws together.

POOF!

A cloud of smoke appeared, and the next instant, they had all vanished.

Tsunade and the others remained staring at the now-empty spot for a few seconds.

"Let’s head to the office," Tsunade said. Her headache was only getting worse.

The ANBU had already reported that several ninja had attempted to approach the Training Field, but all of them had been prevented from entering. The explosion had drawn far too much attention to the area.

Just then, another ANBU appeared before her.

"Hokage-sama, the elders are waiting for you in your office."

"So soon..." Tsunade scoffed before turning to Kakashi and Yamato, giving them a slight nod.

"What’s going on, Tsunade-sama?" Sakura asked, approaching with a completely bewildered expression.

Tsunade turned toward her.

"Sakura... No matter what happens, stay by my side. Understood?" she said in a serious tone.

Sakura blinked, surprised by the sudden change in Tsunade’s demeanor. Before she could ask anything, Sai quietly approached and handed Tsunade a small note.

She quickly read its contents. Then she simply nodded. It was confirmation that Danzō had visited Sai the previous night.

"I was already expecting that..." Tsunade murmured with a faint smile. "It’s fine. We knew that old fox would do everything he could to gather information. He certainly had eyes all over that battle and wasted no time running to the other elders."

She took a deep breath before continuing.

"In any case... enough. It’s time to settle this once and for all."

The plan was simple.

Everyone knew that what Naruto had demonstrated that morning would attract far too much attention.

Danzō would never remain idle after witnessing something like that. And with that Sharingan hidden beneath his bandages...

He couldn’t be allowed anywhere near Naruto. That was precisely why Naruto had been sent to Mount Myōboku.

The decision had been part of the plan they had prepared even before dawn.

"Let’s go to the Hokage’s office," Tsunade ordered.

The next instant, they all left together.
