Chapter 611 - 620: The Terrifying Head

  • Next Chapter

As the box fell, a blood-soaked head slowly rolled out. The head’s features were extremely gruesome, its eyes bulging and its lips purple.

Under the moonlight, seeing such a scene would be enough to scare a normal person to death.

Jun Buwu recoiled in shock, stumbling back and gasping for breath.

Wen Qingye glanced over and couldn’t help but shake his head. "This Ring Spirit was truly dark-hearted, to have a hobby of collecting heads."

"That’s terrifying! Isn’t the Ring Spirit a monk? How could he be so vicious and cruel?" Jun Buwu said in disbelief.

Wen Qingye shrugged and said slowly, "You’re too naive."

Hearing Wen Qingye’s words and witnessing the scene before him, Jun Buwu lapsed into deep thought. The sight dealt a massive blow to his simple heart, which had never been exposed to the world’s darkness.

Not every genius is tested by the cruelty of life and death, or the darkness of the world. Many perish during such trials.

If Wen Qingye hadn’t appeared, Jun Buwu might have ended up as the contents of one of those boxes.

Wen Qingye had wanted to ask what happened, but seeing Jun Buwu with his head bowed, he decided to let it be for now. He turned his attention back to the Sumeru Mustard Seed in his hand.

After a moment, however, he realized the Sumeru Mustard Seed didn’t contain what he was looking for. To be precise, the precious treasure he sought was nowhere to be found. Wen Qingye couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed, but his gaze soon shifted to the Ring Spirit’s corpse.

Suddenly!

Wen Qingye’s eyes narrowed slightly as he spotted the prayer beads on the Ring Spirit’s wrist.

He then took the string of prayer beads from the Ring Spirit’s wrist. Each of the twenty-eight beads was carved with the image of a Buddha, for a total of twenty-eight different statues.

Wen Qingye not only recognized these twenty-eight figures but had even met them in person. They were none other than the twenty-eight masters of the Buddhist Sect from the Immortal Realm.

"These prayer beads possess not only immense Buddha Power but also a vast Wish Power. Such potent Wish Power is truly a rare sight," Wen Qingye murmured to himself, clutching the beads.

Abruptly, he felt a warmth spread from the prayer beads in his hand, transforming into a searing current of energy that surged through his entire body before finally rushing into his Sea of Consciousness.

Wen Qingye came to a sudden realization. "So that’s how it is," he exclaimed. "These prayer beads are actually carved from Eternal Zimu Wood! I see now."

Eternal Zimu Wood was a mystical type of wood. It could not only store a person’s Wish Power and Buddha Power, but it could even house a person’s Primordial Spirit. Most importantly, over time, the wood could cause the host’s Primordial Spirit to grow continuously.

A treasure capable of cultivating the Primordial Spirit—in other words, a treasure that helped one better comprehend the Three Thousand Great Dao—was exceptionally rare. Wood this divine was practically unheard of even in the Immortal Realm.

’The Ring Spirit must have been absorbing the Buddha Power and Wish Power from these beads to raise his cultivation. However, that method is far too unstable. If one’s mental state can’t keep up, one’s body will eventually burst. I don’t cultivate the Buddhist Dao, so these prayer beads are only useful to me for the Eternal Zimu Wood itself. I might as well save them for Feitian.’

Wen Qingye carefully put the prayer beads away. His thoughts turned to Feitian. If he gave these beads to Feitian, it would not only raise Feitian’s power to a new level but also help suppress his rampaging Heart Demon. It would kill two birds with one stone.

Just then, Jun Buwu snapped out of his daze. He was busy examining the female corpse.

Wen Qingye walked to Jun Buwu’s side, frowning slightly as he looked at the female corpse. "Is this the body your ancestor was looking for?"

"Yes." Jun Buwu nodded and said slowly, "She was my ancestor’s wife from his youth. Back then, they entered an Evil Land together and stumbled upon an ancient Array. She got trapped in the Array while saving him, and my ancestor was poisoned by Evil Qi. To this day, his entire body turns ice-cold whenever he comes into contact with it. For all these years, my ancestor, who loved her deeply, has spent every day and night trying to find a way to get her out, even if it’s only her corpse."

Wen Qingye nodded. "This woman’s body must be quite special to have not decayed after several decades. It seems the Ring Spirit had his eye on this body."

Wen Qingye then took a closer look and was surprised to find that the woman actually possessed the Sacrificial Spirit bloodline. He was inwardly astonished, finally understanding why the Ring Spirit had been so depraved and desperate to obtain this corpse.

With the Sacrificial Spirit bloodline, all of a person’s cultivation would condense within their Dantian Qi Sea after death, forming the legendary Sacrificial Spirit Core. This core would, on one hand, protect the physical body from decay, and on the other, it could release its stored Essence at ten times its accumulated potency.

To harvest the Essence from a Sacrificial Spirit Core, one must have intercourse with a person of the Sacrificial Spirit bloodline. And since the core only forms in a corpse, it means one must have intercourse with the corpse of someone with this bloodline to absorb the Essence.

Jun Buwu shook his head. "I’m not sure about the details. As soon as I came out of the Evil Land, I ran into the Ring Spirit. The moment he saw my ancestor’s wife on my back, he demanded the body from me. When I refused, he tried to kill me."

Jun Buwu seemed to recall something and continued, "From what I gathered from the Ring Spirit’s words, the Immortal Coffin apparently stopped its rampage two days ago. I also heard that after it quieted down, many masters from the Immortal Coffin Sect rushed to the Evil Land. Rumor has it that the Ancient Corpse Sumeru Mustard Seed that erupted in the Evil Land contained an incredible treasure. Subsequently, it wasn’t just the Immortal Coffin Sect; many experts from my own Ancient Land went as well. I don’t know what happened after that."

Wen Qingye’s brow tightened as he listened. He realized what must have happened: after he had destroyed the Ancient Corpse in a single move, the Immortal Coffin had lost its target and ceased its rampage. Then, with nothing to guide it, the Immortal Coffin Artifact Spirit must have sent a message to the members of the Immortal Coffin Sect.

The message likely said that there was a treasure in the Evil Land where the Ancient Corpse had been. The Ring Spirit and many other masters who were at the Immortal Coffin Sect at the time must have heard this news and immediately rushed out towards the Evil Land.

But by that time, Wen Qingye and Xiao Zuilan had already left with the Sumeru Mustard Seed. Everyone assumed that Wen Qingye had taken the treasure. The Ring Spirit must have spotted Jun Buwu as soon as he came out and chased him all the way here, which was why he was unaware of the true situation.

’And now,’ Wen Qingye thought, ’the entire Desert North is probably searching for me, wanting the treasure inside my Sumeru Mustard Seed.’

"Alright..." Wen Qingye murmured, his eyebrows suddenly shooting up as a powerful voice echoed under the moonlight.

"Brother Wen!"

He instinctively looked toward the source of the voice and saw two figures drifting across the distant sky. One trod upon white Pear Blossoms, while the other carried a peerless, malevolent blade on his back.
