Chapter 610: Soul-Loss Nail
Chapter 610: Chapter 619: Soul-Loss Nail
The Ring Spirit put his palms together. Then, a golden halo of light began to coalesce between his hands. The halo continuously extended and expanded as it shot toward Wen Qingye.
RUMBLE!
The very air seemed to tremble wherever the halo passed.
‘This Ring Spirit must possess a supreme Buddha Treasure,’ Wen Qingye thought as he watched the menacing golden halo approach. ‘Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to execute this Martial Art.’
As his thoughts raced, Wen Qingye’s hands moved in a blur, and a black Seal Technique began to coalesce in his palms.
“Undying Seal Technique, Sixth Form! Face Death and Storm the Underworld Department!”
In the next instant, an oppressive gloom enveloped the surrounding miles. It was a boundless darkness that seemed intent on swallowing the Ring Spirit’s very heart.
He was submerged in a boundless tide of darkness.
BOOM!
An Undying Seal surged from Wen Qingye’s arm, rushing toward the golden halo.
The golden light and the black Seal Technique collided in mid-air without reservation. Explosive Primordial Qi blasted madly in all directions.
THUD!
The Ring Spirit felt as if a sledgehammer had slammed into his chest. His entire body was sent flying backward before landing heavily in the sand.
Nearby, Jun Buwu’s jaw dropped. He was too stunned to speak.
“I… How could I be no match for you? How can this be?” The fallen Ring Spirit’s expression twisted as he slowly propped himself up on his arms, his voice laced with disbelief.
Wen Qingye shook his head and started walking slowly toward the Ring Spirit. He was just about to speak.
But in the very next instant.
The Ring Spirit flipped his palm. Three beams of pure black light shot toward three of Wen Qingye’s vital acupoints with astonishing speed.
He had no time to react or block. The three black beams struck home instantly. Wen Qingye felt a sharp pain in three spots, as if three nails had been driven into his acupoints. A poison immediately began to spread rapidly through his body.
It all happened in the blink of an eye.
“AHAHAHAHAHA~!”
The Ring Spirit leaped to his feet, roaring with laughter. “Wen Qingye! So what if you’re a peerless genius? You’re still going to die by my hand!”
In the vast, empty desert, only the Ring Spirit’s voice echoed, sounding both eerie and ironic.
Jun Buwu, startled, shouted angrily, “Ring Spirit! You’re a disciple of Baoling Temple, a monk! It’s one thing to covet treasures and be consumed by greed, but to resort to such despicable, underhanded tactics? You’re a disgrace to your monastic vows! It’s laughable! Pathetic!”
“Underhanded tactics?” The Ring Spirit sneered at Jun Buwu’s words. “You truly are a bastion of purity in this Ancient Land. ‘The victor is king, the loser is vilified.’ Don’t you even understand that? And you want to lecture me about morality? If I had bothered with such things, I’d have died long ago.”
The Ring Spirit wiped a trace of blood from the corner of his mouth. His vicious eyes fell on Jun Buwu as he said coldly, “I’ll be taking that female corpse. And both of your lives.”
As he spoke, the Primordial Qi in the Ring Spirit’s Qi Sea slowly gathered in his palm. An aura of death began to close in on Wen Qingye and Jun Buwu.
Jun Buwu looked at the Ring Spirit’s twisted face, then at Wen Qingye, who was now half-crouched on the ground. His heart sank. ‘It’s over,’ he thought. ‘Not only have I failed the Ancestor’s mission, but I’ve also gotten Brother Wen killed. I can’t let this happen.’
With a heavy heart, Jun Buwu roared at Wen Qingye, “Brother Wen, get out of here! I’ll cover your retreat!”
The Ring Spirit laughed strangely. “Run? You think he can run after being hit by my Soul-Loss Nails?”
This Magical Artifact of his was incredibly sinister and strange. It was the very item he had used to obtain that other treasure. There were nine Soul-Loss Nails in total, and to leave no room for error, he had used his last three on Wen Qingye.
“Ring Spirit, I was going to let you live. But since you threw that chance away, don’t blame me for what comes next.”
Just then, a divine glint appeared in Wen Qingye’s dark pupils. He slowly rose to his feet, his gaze fixed coldly on the Ring Spirit.
The Ring Spirit’s smile froze when he heard that voice.
He stared in astonishment as Wen Qingye got to his feet, muttering, “How is this possible? You were hit by my Soul-Loss Nails. How do you still have the strength to stand?”
“This world is a vast place. There are many things you don’t know.”
Wen Qingye’s lips parted slightly, but his eyes were ice-cold as his hand moved slowly toward his waist.
SWOOSH!
The next instant!
Wen Qingye’s body seemed frozen in place, yet the Ring Spirit could hear the sound of rushing wind filling his ears. He knew this was bad. He had just thought to retreat when, in the next moment, Wen Qingye was already right in front of him.
The Ring Spirit stared in terror at Wen Qingye. He had never witnessed such horrifying speed in his entire life.
PFFT!
Then, his expression froze solid, never to change again.
With a heavy thud, the Ring Spirit’s body collapsed. Wen Qingye slowly withdrew his Still Water Sword and took a deep breath.
This time, if his Qilin Fire hadn’t instantly incinerated those three Soul-Loss Nails, he would be a corpse right now.
“Brother Wen, is the Ring Spirit… dead?”
Jun Buwu stared, dumbfounded. The scene before him felt like a dream. Everything had happened so fast that he still hadn’t fully processed it.
“He’s dead.”
Wen Qingye nodded and walked over to the Ring Spirit’s body. This was the man who possessed the treasure used to suppress the rampaging Feitian; that item had to be extraordinary.
He searched the corpse for a moment and found the Sumeru Mustard Seed. Opening it, he saw it was filled with miscellaneous items, Primordial Stones, and several Magical Artifacts—the latter of which were still stained with blood.
Aside from these, there were several boxes.
Wen Qingye took out the boxes, his brow furrowing as he did so. He placed them gently on the sand before looking back into the Sumeru Mustard Seed.
Jun Buwu asked curiously, “Brother Wen, why aren’t you opening them?”
“There’s no need,” Wen Qingye said, shaking his head. “It’s better if the contents are never opened. They’re vile, and the resentment clinging to them is too heavy.”
Wen Qingye’s words only piqued Jun Buwu’s curiosity further, like an itch he couldn’t scratch. He slowly walked over to one of the boxes and reached for it, muttering, “What on earth could be in here? Now I’m really curious.”
CLICK!
As Jun Buwu opened the box, his pupils shrank to pinpricks. His arm trembled violently, and the box fell to the ground. He stumbled back four or five steps, his face a mask of pure terror. He pointed a shaking finger at the box, his voice trembling as he spoke.
“Th-That’s…”
With the box now open, a grotesque, severed head lay exposed. In the dead of night, the sight was utterly horrifying.
