My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 551: Mother Crusher (1)
Chapter 549
"....."
The viewers all shared the same thought upon seeing the extent and scale of the Aberrants occupying the Wall, creatures that had suddenly emerged after remaining hidden for so long.
They numbered in the hundreds.
If they counted correctly, there were a little over two hundred of them, and the majority were Two-Spined Aberrants.
Yet none of that seemed to faze Ray.
He stood there with his hands squeezed tightly into fists, his gaze fixed on something in the distance.
Feeling the killing intent radiating from his best friend, Van turned his head and stared at the Tribrid for a moment before following Ray’s gaze toward the distance, wondering if there was something he had seen.
"Ba....thump...."
Seeing that his friend’s gaze remained fixed in the distance without moving, Van used his mech suit to expand his vision.
And that was when he saw it.
During the Invasion, Van hadn’t been there when Ray’s mother died. His best friend had run off, meaning the tech genius had never witnessed what happened himself. All he knew from Ray was that an Aberrant had killed his mother, but he had never known what the creature looked like.
Now, he did.
Not because he recognized the Aberrant itself, but because, for some strange reason, even after an entire year had passed, the bastard still had a dress wrapped around its neck.
It wasn’t just any dress.
It was one of the dresses Van had seen Ray’s mother wear more times than he could count.
Probably her favorite dress or something.
And now it was wrapped around the creature’s neck like a scarf.
Van’s expression darkened.
’Fuck, fuck, fuck... your death will be bad.’
The rest of the cohort landed atop the nearby buildings, unable to remain suspended in the air for as long as Ray and Van.
A faint cracking sound came from Ray’s direction.
The Tribrid had squeezed his hands so tightly that his own wrists were beginning to give way.
Then, the hundreds of Aberrants charged forward.
Their feet pounded against the earth like the hooves of a stampeding herd, and the sheer ferocity of their advance caused the ground to tremble beneath them.
The cohort didn’t back down.
They shifted into combat stances atop the half-destroyed buildings they had landed on, each of them preparing to face the incoming horde.
Ray, however, remained completely unmoving.
That specific bastard hadn’t charged forward with the rest of its comrades.
It remained in the same position even as the other Aberrants rushed toward the cohort at immense speed.
Seconds passed.
The horde continued closing in.
They were only moments away from reaching the buildings.
Raze released a tired sigh as he clutched the empty plastic coffee cup in his hand. The cup crumpled beneath his grip before he casually tossed it to the side.
His grip tightened around his battle axe as he looked into the distance.
The first line of defense before the Aberrants could reach the others was Ray.
And for some reason, the Tribrid wasn’t moving an inch.
One of the Aberrants at the front of the horde was barely a metre away from Ray and rapidly closing the distance.
Yet the Tribrid made no effort to move.
It was as though he could no longer see the rest of the world.
There was only one figure in his eyes.
Well, he didn’t have to move.
BANG!
A section of the Wall suddenly crumbled, sending a rain of rocks backward and forcing Bonny and Johnny to hurriedly leap out of the way as the avalanche of rubble tumbled down behind them.
Something sliced through the air.
A battle axe was clutched tightly in the hands of Raze as he tore through the collapsing debris, his obsidian eyes crackling with a few sparks of lightning that leaked from his exo-suit.
The AI spoke directly into his ear.
<Full Combat Power unleashed: 92 percent>
It was as though a sonic boom tore through the world.
Raze flashed forward and appeared before Ray in a jiffy.
The Aberrant had been stretching out its claw toward the boy a moment ago, only for that same hand to suddenly slide downward and collapse to the ground with a loud thud.
The Two-Spined Aberrant simply blinked.
Before it could even comprehend what had happened, Raze spun through the air, his battle axe cutting cleanly through the wind barrier as he rotated, the weapon tearing through the creature’s body.
His obsidian eyes blazed as his glasses activated.
The Aberrant’s second arm immediately rushed toward the Captain, but it missed him by a wide margin. Raze hovered above the massive limb for a moment before descending directly onto it.
Spinning around the arm like a wheel, Raze’s battle axe shredded through the rocky limb, carving through it with every rotation. He continued moving along its length until he reached the creature’s neck.
With a swift swing of his weapon, the axe buried itself deep into the Aberrant’s neck, stopping for a moment as the thick flesh and bone resisted the blade.
Raze twisted the handle.
Click—!
A silent shockwave detonated from the head of the battle axe.
The force burst through the creature’s neck from the inside, and its head suddenly toppled forward before plunging into the earth with a loud thud.
Raze landed atop the decapitated neck, directly in front of Ray, his entire body soaked from head to toe in blue blood.
Reaching into his pocket, the Captain pulled out a candy, ripped the wrapper open, and tossed it into his mouth.
He exhaled sharply, feeling the cooling sensation spread across his tongue as the other Aberrants abruptly halted in their advance.
A static sound crackled through Ray’s ears before a familiar voice shouted through the comms.
"Go ahead, bro. Fucking pay that bastard for what he did. When I lost my parents, your mum treated me like her son. She didn’t discriminate between us."
Van’s voice thundered through Ray’s ears.
Then came the sound of gas being released into the air as the others rushed forward, Van leading the charge.
Tears welled up in Ray’s eyes.
".... If she disciplines you, she does to me because she considers me a son. Days I’m always hungry, she gives enough food for both me and grandpa. So fucking go ahead and rip that bastard to shreds! We will cover you!"
Unknown to Van, the ear comms were connected, meaning everyone, including the Captain, had heard every word he said.
Raze narrowed his gaze toward Ray, and realization finally dawned on him as he understood why the Tribrid hadn’t moved.
’Oh.’
The decapitated neck of the Aberrant was as wide as a small rooftop, spacious enough for the entire cohort to land beside the Captain.
Raze pulled his battle axe free and gave Ray a nod.
"Go do what you have to. We will clean up these ones."
Even though Ray’s mind was clouded by fury and the desire for revenge, those words managed to pierce through the storm in his head.
For a moment, Ray remained still.
Then, just like that, he vanished forward.
His body blurred through the air like a meteor, but this meteor wasn’t covered in flames.
It was wreathed in lightning from head to toe.
A catastrophic boom erupted in his wake as the air seemed to collapse inward, unable to withstand the sheer acceleration of his movement.
One target filled his eyes.
One target occupied his mind.
Nothing else mattered.
