Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Frank Keller Passes Out

Human experimentation?

Hearing this, everyone’s expression turned grim.

Frank Keller hugged his arms, his face filled with terror.

At first, he hadn’t noticed anything. He simply thought it was just a sanatorium.

That is, until the man in the bed across from him started staying out all night. He would always come back with various wounds on his arms, and there were always specks of blood on his sleeves and the hem of his clothes.

Whenever Frank tried to ask about it or offered to help treat the wounds, the man would just mumble evasively and refuse to let him get close.

Later, the man across from him could no longer take it. He would collapse into bed the moment he returned to the room. Frank took this opportunity to secretly lift his sleeves and the hem of his shirt.

He saw countless needle marks, as well as fresh cuts that had been hastily treated.

Frank might have been too rough; he tugged on the man’s wounds while lifting his clothes. The man’s eyelids twitched slightly. He was about to wake up!

To avoid being discovered, Frank could only let go and return to his own bed.

Over the next few days, the man returned less and less often, but the number of wounds on his body only grew.

Before Frank could figure out a good plan, the man told him, "Stay alert. Don’t eat the food. Once I’m gone, you’ll be next."

When Frank woke up the next day, the man had already been taken away, never to return.

From that day on, Frank started trying to eat as little as possible, using all sorts of excuses to avoid the food.

He didn’t dare to sleep soundly at night, either, forcing himself into his current haggard state.

Later, realizing this wasn’t a sustainable solution, he used his monthly communication time to send a distress message back home.

But Frank didn’t actually hold out much hope. Because of Evan Keller’s special profession, he knew it wouldn’t be easy for him to come over.

Yesterday, the sanatorium staff had decided they were done playing games with Frank. They were preparing to take him by force, but he managed to escape when they weren’t paying attention. Then, he was coincidentally found by Zoe Sawyer and the others and brought to the police station.

After hearing the whole story, Zoe Sawyer and the others fell silent.

’What a poor kid.’

You could say he was unlucky, yet he managed to hold on until help arrived. You could say he was lucky, yet he was manipulated from start to finish.

Frank seemed to remember something and quickly added, "I made some other discoveries during my time there! The sanatorium has a basement, and you can get in through a pipe in the kitchen.

"There are a lot of people locked up in there! People of all races!

"There are even a few famous missing international students from our country—ones who were in the newspapers!"

Because of his brother’s and his childhood friend’s lines of work, Frank subconsciously paid attention to this kind of news.

Having seen and heard so much, he naturally started to connect the dots.

"Okay, we understand. Tell me your friend’s name, and also describe the sanatorium’s layout. Tell us in detail what is where." Heath Hale stepped forward, a notebook having appeared in his hand at some point, and began to question Frank about the specifics.

The fact that there were other international students inside, as Frank mentioned, required special attention.

Fortunately, during his time at the sanatorium, Frank had indeed managed to get a clear picture of the surface-level situation.

To align with their claims of respecting personal privacy, there were no cameras in the patient rooms, around the courtyard, or on the outer walls. However, the entrance was guarded 24/7 by rotating shifts.

But in the hallways on both sides and right in the middle, there was a 360-degree rotating camera, ensuring there were no blind spots.

The windows in the patient rooms were sealed shut and couldn’t be opened at all. The glass was also specially made and extremely shatterproof.

If you wanted to enter or exit a room, you had to use the door, which would leave you completely exposed to the cameras.

And most importantly, they would search you from head to toe before you returned to your room to make sure you weren’t hiding anything.

This was the main reason why Frank had never been able to figure out a good way to escape.

"I understand. Thank you for your cooperation." After jotting down the necessary information, Heath Hale closed his notebook, took a step back, and gave the space to Evan Keller.

Frank was just now realizing something was off. ’How did I get back?’

He had just raised his head to ask about the situation when he saw Evan Keller shake his head slightly at him, so Frank swallowed the question on the tip of his tongue.

"Alright, get some rest. You’re safe now. As for the things you mentioned, we will investigate them.

"You all, too. It’s getting late. Go home and rest. We’ll deal with everything else tomorrow," the chief spoke up, taking charge and shooing Zoe Sawyer and the others out.

Evan Keller refused. He had waited so long for his brother to wake up; how could he agree to leave without even having a proper chat?

The chief understood Evan’s feelings and didn’t force him to leave.

Zoe Sawyer walked to the doorway and saw Lynn Grant standing in the hall. She was about to call out to her but was stopped by a gesture.

Lynn Grant shook her head, signaling not to make a sound. She glanced back toward the infirmary door, then left with Zoe and the others.

Zoe looked at Lynn, who seemed to want to say something but held back. ’Is she afraid to go in? Is it because she still likes him?’

A melodramatic romance scene began to unfold in Zoe’s mind, but her expression was so obvious that Lynn, walking beside her, saw it all clearly.

"You’re overthinking it. I didn’t go in simply because I didn’t want to listen to those two brothers crying.

"Those two have been crybabies since they were little. Didn’t get the food they wanted? Cried. Lost the fight for the remote? Cried. Now that they’re older, they at least know to hide when they cry. If I went in there, I guarantee my sleeves would be soaked with tears, maybe even snot." As Lynn said this, her expression went dead.

’I really don’t want to wash clothes like that again!’

Zoe Sawyer and Sean Hughes dug at their ears in disbelief. Evan Keller, the guy who looked so cool and aloof, was actually a crybaby?

As if they had discovered some earth-shattering secret, the two of them flanked Lynn, trying to pry more stories out of her.

Walking behind the three of them, Heath Hale felt a bit helpless. ’At this rate, I won’t be home for another half hour!’

Heath Hale took a long stride, passed the trio, and headed toward his dorm.

Meanwhile, back in the infirmary, the two brothers had a long-overdue chat before Frank finally succumbed to exhaustion and fell asleep.

Evan Keller decided to make do for the night on the bed next to him.

As he was drifting in and out of sleep, he suddenly heard Frank’s pained, struggling groans from beside him.

"Don’t touch me! Get away!"

"It hurts, it really hurts... Bro, save me."

Evan Keller’s eyes snapped open. He lunged to Frank’s side and found him drenched in a cold sweat, soaking the sheets beneath him.

His hair was plastered wetly to his face, which was deathly pale. His expression was contorted in agony, and his hands were thrashing about.

"Wake up, wake up."

Evan patted Frank’s face, trying to wake him up, but it had no effect.

Finally, Frank’s entire body began to convulse, and he passed out completely.

Without a moment’s delay, Evan immediately called for an ambulance.

Zoe Sawyer and Sean Hughes came out, rubbing their eyes, only to see Heath Hale standing in the hallway, looking toward the police station’s main entrance.

"What’s wrong?" Zoe asked, confused.

"An ambulance just came. I think something happened to Frank Keller."
