Chapter 92: Chapter 92: He Was Taken for Human Experimentation

Frank Keller, who had never touched this kind of stuff, was suddenly injected with something. Luckily, it had been diluted multiple times; otherwise, he really wouldn’t have pulled through.

After he regained consciousness, Frank Keller saw the needle mark on his arm and knew something was terribly wrong.

Despite his body screaming in discomfort, Frank Keller rushed to the hospital for a full check-up.

He was lucky—he hadn’t contracted any other diseases. But he was also unlucky—his blood test came back positive, confirming he had indeed used drugs in the past few days.

Frank Keller went to the bar where he had been drinking and demanded to see the security footage.

Although he had been sitting and drinking right in the middle of the bar, directly in the camera’s line of sight, things grew chaotic late into the night. Throngs of people were coming and going, and on several occasions, passersby completely blocked the view of Frank Keller.

By the time his figure reappeared on camera, he had already been jabbed with a needle.

A few minutes later, the view was blocked again, and by the time it cleared, the syringe was gone.

At this point, if Frank Keller still couldn’t figure it out, he’d be a fool. This was a deliberate setup.

But with the syringe gone and no incriminating footage, there was nothing he could do, even if he wanted to hold someone accountable.

To avoid becoming an addict, Frank Keller confessed to his family and decided to check into a rehabilitation center not far from his university.

That way, he could focus on detox while still being able to go back to the university to manage his studies on days he felt well enough.

At the same time, he was also collecting evidence that his research had been stolen. But before he could submit it to the university, he was hit by a car.

The constant running back and forth already had Frank Keller physically and mentally exhausted, not to mention the withdrawal symptoms from the detox.

Frank Keller couldn’t dodge in time and was sent flying several meters.

While recovering in bed, his withdrawal symptoms flared up. The rehabilitation center made a snap decision: Frank Keller would not be allowed to leave again until he had made a full recovery.

After that, Evan Keller and the others only received routine letters assuring them of his well-being.

Zoe Sawyer, having heard the whole story, rubbed her chin. ’This whole thing was a setup targeting Frank Keller.’

"He was set up, wasn’t he? It’s just one thing after another," Sean Hughes lamented. He cast a complicated look toward the medical bay. ’Who did he piss off to deserve this?’

The chief sighed as well.

They could all see it was a setup. But Frank Keller had always been immersed in university life, surrounded by teachers and students. He had very little exposure to this sort of thing, so he couldn’t recognize it for what it was at the time.

But there was no use talking about it now. What was done, was done.

By the time Evan Keller got there, the driver had long since vanished. The officer in charge of the case there was completely unhelpful, just trying to pass the buck.

And, coincidentally, all the nearby security cameras were broken, capturing nothing.

It was blatantly intentional, but Evan Keller was powerless.

He was in a foreign country, all alone. Evan Keller could only focus on getting his brother’s affairs in order first. As soon as he had, it was time for him to leave the country, leaving no time to take any further action.

"Alright, that’s the general idea. That’s enough for now, all of you head back.

If you don’t want to rest, you can help me with my paperwork." The chief had barely finished speaking when he saw the three of them beat a hasty retreat.

’Work?’

’No way were they going to work. The rest of the afternoon was their break time!’

Evan Keller didn’t return to the police station until evening.

The hem of his uniform was flecked with red stains.

"What happened? Are you hurt?" Zoe Sawyer asked, walking over anxiously as she noticed the stains on his clothes.

Sean Hughes and Heath Hale didn’t get up, but they shot him a worried glance.

"No, I just broke up a brawl. It’s their nosebleeds from hitting each other," Evan Keller said, waving a hand to show he was fine.

Recalling that the chief had sent him out on a case, Sean Hughes asked curiously, "What was that call about today?"

"A delivery driver accidentally brought the wrong food. He apologized, but the customer wouldn’t accept it and started verbally abusing him. The driver lost his temper, and they got into an argument. They were both so heated that they found a place to physically fight it out.

The driver’s wife couldn’t get ahold of her husband, so she got worried and called the police. They were going at it pretty intensely when we arrived. It took a while to pull them apart, which is when I got the blood on me.

I gave them a talking-to, had a chat with them, and that took us up until now." Evan Keller briefly explained the situation to the others.

What Evan Keller didn’t mention was that if they hadn’t arrived in time, the two hotheads might have pulled out knives.

Then it wouldn’t have been something a simple lecture could solve.

Although his mind was still on his brother, Evan Keller finished his other tasks before heading to the medical bay to watch over him.

To give Frank a sponge bath and such.

When ten o’clock finally arrived, the chief, who had been too preoccupied with the case to go home, came over from his office with a solemn expression.

Zoe Sawyer, Sean Hughes, and Heath Hale were also waiting in the medical bay, eager to hear the update.

Lynn Grant stood in the hallway, leaning against the wall with her head bowed, lost in thought.

The chief’s phone screen was open to a messaging app, showing a voice message that was a dozen or so seconds long.

He played it.

"I went over today to ask. I said I was sent by Frank Keller’s family to check on his condition. The director there told me that Frank’s recovery was going very well, but he wasn’t awake yet, and that I should come back next time.

But there are more guards at the rehab center today. The director explained that things are a bit unsettled outside lately, so they had to tighten security."

The man’s voice, coming from the phone’s speaker, was slightly distorted but perfectly clear.

Zoe Sawyer and the others gasped. ’The guy is missing, and they’re choosing to hide it from his family instead of telling them?’

’And that "tighten security" excuse sounds suspicious no matter how you spin it!’

Just then, Frank Keller groggily opened his eyes.

Seeing the unfamiliar surroundings, he had a panicked reaction and pulled the blanket up high, burrowing underneath it and trembling.

Evan Keller immediately forgot everything else and sat on the edge of the bed, gently patting his brother’s back. "Frank, you’re safe now. Don’t worry, there’s nothing to be afraid of. Why don’t you come out? It’s stuffy under the blanket."

Hearing the familiar voice, Frank Keller peeked out from under the blanket. When he saw the familiar face in front of him, his eyes instantly brightened.

"Evan Keller!"

Frank Keller threw aside the blanket and sat up, grabbing Evan Keller’s hand.

He looked left and right, and even pinched himself.

The pain that shot through his thigh confirmed he wasn’t dreaming. He grabbed Evan Keller’s hand tightly, his voice cracking with panic. "Bro! Save my friend! The people at the rehab center have him. He’s been gone for a week!"

"Calm down, don’t get worked up. Maybe he recovered and was discharged?" Evan Keller said, patting his brother’s back soothingly.

’Missing for a week? He was probably just discharged.’

Frank Keller shook his head without a moment’s hesitation.

"No! Absolutely not! They took him for human experimentation!"
