My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 94: Drug-Induced Memory Gap
Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Drug-Induced Memory Gap
Hearing this, Zoe Sawyer and Sean Hughes couldn’t sleep either. They got ready to head to the hospital and see what was going on.
Just as they were about to leave, they saw Beau had gotten up too. She followed them silently, protectively clutching her drawing book.
Sean Hughes was about to tell her to go back to sleep, but then considered that she had just arrived and probably felt insecure, which was why she wanted to stick close to them at all times.
"Let’s take her. It should be better once the Logan Grandparents get here." Heath Hale glanced at Beau and didn’t tell her to leave either.
And so, the group of four set off together. Just as they reached the hospital entrance, they ran into Lynn Grant, who had also rushed over.
They exchanged nods and hurried toward the hospital ward.
Because of Frank Keller’s unique situation, the hospital had prepared a private room for him.
When they arrived, Frank Keller was still undergoing examinations. Evan Keller was leaning against the wall outside the door, chewing on mints one by one to stay awake.
The elders in the family weren’t up to the task, and it wasn’t right to disturb them in the middle of the night, so he had to watch over things himself.
"What are you all doing here?" Evan Keller asked, looking at Zoe Sawyer’s group as they hurried over. He tossed them a few mints.
Heath Hale ran a hand through his hair and explained, "We heard the commotion and came to see what was up. We weren’t asleep anyway."
Evan Keller knew they were worried about him. He didn’t say anything, just walked over and patted their shoulders. ℴ
"What happened? Why was he suddenly sent to the hospital?" Lynn Grant asked, her expression anxious.
Evan Keller recounted what had happened in the infirmary, then pointed off to the side. "After he was brought here, I had the doctors give him a full check-up. We still have to wait a bit longer."
Hearing this, Zoe Sawyer and the others looked around, found a place to sit, and waited with Evan Keller for the results.
As the sky began to brighten, Frank Keller was wheeled back in. A doctor followed beside him, holding a thick stack of reports, his expression exceptionally grave.
"You’re Frank Keller’s family, right? Come over here. I have something I need to discuss with you." The doctor glanced around and beckoned to Evan Keller.
The others quickly gathered around as well.
The doctor didn’t mind the crowd that had gathered around. He held the stack of reports and, pointing to some of the data, said, "The patient’s physical condition is extremely poor. This is no longer a simple matter of malnutrition.
He has been injected with some kind of special drug. We’ve already sent a blood sample to a more specialized facility for testing, but we can confirm right now that the vast majority of the patient’s problems are caused by this drug.
Today was likely when the drug’s effects peaked. The patient also has a history of drug abuse, and the episode triggered his addiction-related withdrawal symptoms, which is why he fell into this comatose state."
Evan Keller clenched his fists, wishing he could rush over to that sanatorium on the other side of the ocean right now and beat the hell out of the people in charge.
"Thank you for your hard work, Doctor. In his current state, how long will it take for my brother to recover?" Evan Keller continued to ask.
The doctor shook his head. "It’s hard to say. He has been taking this drug for too long, and it has caused mental confusion. We’ll have to see how he responds to further treatment to know for sure.
If this isn’t resolved, it could affect his lifespan in the future."
Evan Keller’s expression turned grim. ’Mental confusion... In that case, how much of what he described before was actually true?’
The doctor gave some brief instructions on what to watch out for next and then left.
Soon, only Zoe Sawyer’s group was left in the hospital room.
A heavy atmosphere spread throughout the room. Soon, Heath Hale broke the silence. "We have to question Frank Keller properly when he wakes up. If our intelligence is wrong, it will have a huge impact on our subsequent rescue operation."
Because back in the infirmary, Frank Keller hadn’t revealed a single word about any of this!
This also finally explained why Frank Keller knew about the sanatorium’s basement. It was highly probable that he had been inside it before.
He must have seen something unbelievable in there. The shock was too great, and combined with the effects of the drug, it made him forget that part.
Heath Hale, who had been planning to find a chance to ask again, let out a soft sigh. Now his question was answered.
But it also revealed another, even darker reality.
The situation at that sanatorium was probably even worse than they had imagined!
An unknown amount of time passed. The sounds from outside grew louder, and Frank Keller struggled to open his eyes.
The group, who had been sleeping uncomfortably on the sofa in various awkward positions, heard the sound and woke with a start, gathering around Frank Keller’s bedside.
"Bro? Lynn? What are you guys doing here? I remember this month’s visiting time is already over." Frank Keller looked at the two familiar faces in front of him, a hint of surprise on his face.
’Would the sanatorium staff really be kind enough to let my family in?’
Evan Keller frowned. ’What’s going on?’
His police instincts kicked in at once.
"You came back yesterday, don’t you remember?" Evan Keller’s tone was probing, and he stared intently into Frank Keller’s eyes as he spoke, trying to see something different in them.
A flicker of confusion crossed Frank Keller’s eyes. ’I’m back in the country?’
’Why don’t I remember any of it?’
Evan Keller sucked in a sharp breath. He looked at Sean Hughes, signaling for her to call the doctor.
The doctor arrived quickly and gave Frank Keller a brief examination.
"It’s still caused by that drug problem I mentioned before. But it’s a good thing he’s awake. You should have a good talk with him. Just be careful not to let the patient get too agitated." The doctor gave these simple instructions and left.
He had other patients and no time to linger.
Looking at Frank Keller’s bewildered expression, Evan Keller chose his words carefully and briefly recounted the previous day’s events to him.
However, he omitted the part about Zoe Sawyer’s ’Any-Door’.
After hearing the whole story, Frank Keller opened his mouth, then sighed. "So that’s why I’m missing a chunk of my memory. It turns out I had an episode. I must have scared you then, huh? I’m sorry. I can’t control myself."
Heath Hale stepped forward at the right moment. After getting permission from the two Keller brothers, he asked the same questions from the previous night all over again.
Frank Keller scratched his head, a bit embarrassed. "Wow, I said all that last night?"
After thinking for a moment, Frank Keller found the parts he had missed and filled in the gaps.
"Actually, the general course of events was more or less the same, but one thing was different. The reason I was able to discover the basement was because I was actually taken down there."
When he discovered the dense needle marks and knife wounds on the man in the opposite bed, he was so shocked that he didn’t notice someone standing at the door, witnessing the entire thing.
The next night, he was taken to the basement as well.
Inside, he saw a scene he would never forget for the rest of his life.
