My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 516: Henry Marshall
Chapter 516: Chapter 516: Henry Marshall
Zoe Sawyer described the scene she had seen to them.
The name of the restaurant, the number of people, and where they were sitting.
"That group has definitely been keeping an eye on Cameron’s party. We need to move fast and bring them back," Heath Hale said, frowning as he contemplated their next move.
Even with Beau here, creating a sketch and running a search would take a significant amount of time.
Besides, it was too much of a hassle. It’d be better to just go directly to the restaurant and retrieve the surveillance footage.
The chief spoke up at the opportune moment. "I’ll send someone to the restaurant to get the surveillance footage now. I just hope it hasn’t been recorded over yet."
The surveillance footage at some restaurants and buildings isn’t kept for long and is easily overwritten. They had to get there as quickly as possible.
"Alright, we’ll leave it to you then, Chief." Heath Hale didn’t stand on ceremony. This was their home turf, so it was more appropriate for officers from this jurisdiction to handle it.
Fortunately, the police station wasn’t far from the restaurant. By the time Cameron’s group was brought back, the officers sent to retrieve the surveillance footage had also reached their destination.
The manager was in his office handling work when someone suddenly knocked on the door.
"Manager, there are two police officers outside. They said they’re looking for you," a server said, opening the door and poking his head in, his eyes filled with irrepressible curiosity.
’The police showing up and asking for him by name... Did the manager get caught doing something illegal? Or is there some other secret?’
At the same time, the server seemed to hesitate, wanting to say more. Because of the sudden commotion, some of the dining customers had already noticed the police. If the situation wasn’t handled quickly, it could lead to unsavory rumors about the restaurant.
The manager put down his pen and looked toward the door in confusion. "Police? What are they doing here?"
The server shrugged. "I don’t know. They specifically asked to see the manager."
"I get it." The manager wearily pinched the bridge of his nose. He didn’t know what was going on, but he had to go find out.
As soon as he stepped out of his office, he saw the officers the server had mentioned standing not far away. A few customers coming in to dine were pretending to walk by casually, sneaking glances as they went.
"How can I help you two?" the manager asked, hurrying over to them.
One of them presented his badge and said, "We’re police, investigating a case. We need your cooperation."
The manager’s expression was a mixture of confusion and uncertainty. "Did I do something wrong? Or has something happened at the restaurant?"
’That can’t be right,’ he thought. ’I’ve always been a law-abiding citizen, and I haven’t had a grudge or conflict with anyone.’
And the restaurant is even less likely. Sure, sometimes he’d use his position for a few perks, but that was all within the scope his boss tacitly approved of. And it’s not like the food has ever killed anyone!
"We need the restaurant’s surveillance footage for a specific day. You still have it saved, right?" the first officer explained, providing a precise time frame.
"Yes, yes, of course! Our restaurant keeps recordings for six months, so footage from three months ago is still available. You two, please follow me." Hearing that it had nothing to do with him, the manager breathed a huge, internal sigh of relief and quickly replied.
As he led them to the computer used for viewing the surveillance footage, the manager thought for a moment before cautiously asking, "Excuse me, but did something happen in our restaurant?"
"Relax. We have information that a suspect was dining in your restaurant at this particular time on this particular day."
"We need to pull the footage for evidence," Officer A replied casually while reviewing the video. He had been leaning toward the computer, but he suddenly sat bolt upright, his tone filled with excitement. "Found it!"
The clue from the chief had been precise down to the time frame, and before leaving, he had specifically studied Roger Rowan’s face in the briefing room.
That was how he was able to lock onto the clip so quickly.
The manager leaned over curiously for a look, and his attention was immediately drawn to one of the men. "Isn’t that Henry Marshall?"
Officer A, who was in the middle of saving the video clip, paused. He turned to the manager beside him and asked, "You know them?"
The manager nodded, pointing to a man sitting next to Cameron. "That one’s Henry Marshall. He’s a regular at our restaurant. He comes every day for dinner, always orders the cheapest combo, and always insists on sitting in the same seat."
"He’s been doing it for years. If that seat is taken, he’ll wait for the other person to finish before he sits down to eat. That’s why I have such a strong impression of him."
Henry Marshall was like an NPC with a fixed spawn point in a small shop; the manager’s impression of him was that deep.
"Are you sure? Does he usually come alone, or with other people?" Officer B asked from the side.
The manager thought for a moment, a trace of uncertainty in his voice. "He usually comes alone, but once in a while, he’ll bring someone. It never seems to be the same person, though."
The two officers exchanged a look, a flicker of delight in their eyes. Just like that, they had identified one of the suspects.
"When is this Henry Marshall supposed to come in today? Do you happen to know his address?" Officer B asked. At the same time, he gave the chief a quick summary of the situation and sent over a copy of the surveillance clip they had just captured.
The manager glanced at the time and said, "I’m not sure. He just comes in, orders, eats, and leaves."
"Speaking of today, it’s almost time for him to show up."
Officers A and B glanced at the monitor. They had already clipped the most crucial part of the video and sent it back.
Their most important task was done. Now was the perfect time to wait and see if they could nab Henry Marshall.
"What do you think?" Officer A asked, gesturing toward the screen to his partner.
Officer B cracked his knuckles. "Same thing you are. Let’s stake it out. We might get a lucky break."
Having been partners for several years, they were pretty good at guessing what the other was thinking.
"Manager, we’ll need to ask you to stay here for a bit," Officer A said.
The manager quickly waved his hands. "Of course, of course. It’s our duty to cooperate with a police investigation."
"Don’t you worry. The moment he arrives, I’ll let you know immediately."
’As long as it’s not me or the restaurant in trouble, everything’s fine!’ he thought. ’God knows how terrified I was at first!’
After the police operation was over, he would have to go out and explain the situation to the diners to protect the restaurant’s reputation.
Luckily, less than ten minutes later, the target’s figure appeared on the monitor.
"Officers, Henry Marshall is here! But he’s alone this time," the manager said quickly, his eyes fixed on the monitor.
He felt a small pang of regret, though. ’Only one person. So much for earning any extra credit!’
Watching Henry Marshall plop down in his familiar seat, Officer A studied the man’s surroundings on the monitor, then finally spoke.
"I’ll head out the back and circle around to the main entrance. You go straight for him. We’ll pincer him!"
