My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 517: Who to Catch First?
Chapter 517: Chapter 517: Who to Catch First?
Officer B glanced at where Henry Marshall was sitting, near the restaurant’s main entrance.
If they rushed him directly, they might tip him off and he could escape through the main door.
But if they approached from both sides, it would be a different story. It would significantly reduce his chances of escape.
"I can take this officer over. The restaurant’s back door is in a bit of an obscure spot. Someone unfamiliar with the layout could easily get turned around," the manager said quickly, seeming to have finally figured out how he could help.
Officer B didn’t refuse. After confirming their communication devices were working properly, the two went their separate ways.
Officer A stood behind a wall, observing Henry Marshall in a nearby mirror.
He didn’t seem very alert. He kept his head down the entire time, eating the food in front of him. His pace was a bit fast, though; in just a moment, he’d already finished a third of it.
Nearby diners couldn’t help but keep looking up at Officer A, their faces excited as if they wanted to say something.
Worried that the diners’ frequent movements would make Henry Marshall sense something was wrong, Officer A quickly made a "be quiet" gesture to them.
The diners, who had been looking up frequently, all lowered their heads and focused on their food. They even stopped talking, afraid they would interfere with the police making an arrest.
The restaurant suddenly fell quiet. Henry Marshall looked up, a bit confused, and glanced around. He didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. ’Then why did everyone suddenly stop talking?’
"I’m in position. Ready to move in anytime." Just then, Officer A heard his partner’s voice in his earpiece.
"Then let’s move! Let’s get this guy and report back!" Officer A said, then rushed out without hesitation.
Because of Officer A’s earlier signal, the diners who had been moving around had all gone quiet and returned to their seats, so his path to Henry Marshall was clear.
Henry Marshall had just looked up when he saw a police officer running toward him. He instinctively jumped up and bolted for the door, his mind reeling with a single, shocked question: ’How did the police know I was here?’
With the restaurant’s main entrance right in front of him, a look of delight appeared on Henry Marshall’s face. ’I’m finally going to get away!’
’Once I get out and duck into one of these winding alleys, that cop will never catch me!’
But in the next second, Officer B and the manager appeared at the entrance, completely blocking Henry Marshall’s escape route.
The moment he rushed forward, Officer B stuck out a leg and tripped him. He then twisted his arm behind his back and cuffed him. "Police! Henry Marshall, you’re under arrest for loan fraud. You’re coming with us!"
Henry Marshall’s meager strength was nothing compared to Officer B’s. He tried to struggle, but the searing pain from his twisted arm made him give up the idea.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about! Can the police just arrest people without any evidence?" Henry Marshall shouted frantically, stubbornly refusing to admit anything. "I won’t accept this! I’m going to report you!"
"Go ahead. If we didn’t have solid evidence, how could we have pinpointed that you’d be here eating?" Officer A held up his phone and waved it in front of Henry Marshall before continuing, "Unlike you, your two buddies were much more honest. But don’t worry. We won’t let a single one of the remaining guys get away!"
Hearing this, Henry Marshall stopped struggling. He slowly raised his head, stared at Officer A standing before him, and asked, "Who was arrested?"
’Did that idiot get caught and rat us all out?’
"Cameron, for one. As for the other... care to guess who?" Officer A leaned down slightly, staring at the exceptionally pathetic-looking Henry Marshall.
Upon hearing the name Cameron, Henry Marshall clenched his jaw tightly. He had considered many people, but Cameron had never crossed his mind.
"All right, let’s not waste any more time. Take him back first." Officer A waved to his partner, telling him to take the man to the car. He would follow shortly.
After his partner had escorted Henry Marshall to the car, Officer A turned his attention to the manager nearby. "Thank you for all your trouble. I’m really sorry for disturbing you today."
The manager waved his hand dismissively. "It was no big deal, don’t worry about it. If there’s anything else our restaurant can do to cooperate in the future, just let us know."
The two exchanged a few more pleasantries before the officer returned to the station with the suspect.
Meanwhile, back at the station, after receiving the surveillance footage from Officers A and B, a team immediately extracted the faces from the video and ran them through the database for comparison.
Since the surveillance footage was clear, they got results quickly.
"Besides this Henry Marshall, the others bought plane or train tickets to various places and left here a month ago. We haven’t been able to pinpoint the current locations of the four of them yet." The colleague in charge of this task submitted their report.
Looking at the report, Zoe Sawyer breathed a sigh of relief. She turned to the Chief and said, "The information is detailed enough. I can help with the arrests."
’With enough information, if they just give me a few more people, I can use the door to bring them back.’
Heath Hale nodded in agreement and said, "Catching them won’t be difficult. Chief, could you please prepare a vacant office for us and have someone take over Evan Keller’s current caseload?"
’Although there are plenty of colleagues here we could use, our own team members work together more smoothly.’
The two team members who had returned to the field office with Cameron were also back, so they were available to join the arrest operation here.
The Chief was aware of Zoe Sawyer’s unique abilities. After hearing Heath Hale’s request, he nodded and agreed without hesitation. "That’s not a problem."
In less than five minutes, a vacant office was prepared for Zoe Sawyer and her team.
Evan Keller also walked in, along with Sean Hughes and four of his team members.
"Captain Sawyer, is the arrest phase next?" one of the team members asked as soon as he entered the office.
Zoe Sawyer nodded, handing them the files on five individuals, including Theodore Hughes. "We’re arresting these five. They’re all in different locations, so this is going to be tough on you all."
The team member scratched his head and said, "It’s just arresting a few people, no trouble at all. You have the bigger burden, Captain Sawyer."
"Alright, cut the pleasantries. Let’s get moving. The important thing is to catch these guys so Zoe Sawyer can get some rest," Heath Hale said, waving his hand to cut off their conversation.
Zoe Sawyer had previously seen through her retrospection that this group had deliberately staggered their crimes to avoid being discovered for operating too frequently.
They had all left a month ago, and it was hard not to suspect they had simply moved to a new area to continue their operations.
To prevent more victims like Roger Rowan, the most important thing was to apprehend these people as quickly as possible.
"Who do we get first?"
Zoe Sawyer looked toward Heath Hale and asked.
"This one. Theodore Hughes!"
