Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Aaron Nash

Mr. Wallace’s humming faded as his figure gradually disappeared from Zoe Sawyer’s sight.

Only after watching the entire scene play out did Zoe close the door.

"What’s the situation? Heath, could you see it too?" Evan Keller asked, rushing over the moment he saw Zoe shut the door.

Heath let out a heavy breath. "I saw it. A guy was stealing copper wire from a ground line and tried to threaten someone else."

"But he didn’t expect to be killed in return."

Zoe rubbed her eyes. Even though she had seen her fair share of dead bodies, the scene she had just witnessed was still a huge shock.

However, only her Rewind ability allowed her to share what she saw with others; Foresight did not.

’So, the man in the work uniform is already dead in that electrical room,’ she thought. ’And that Mr. Wallace... he’s the murderer.’

Recalling the conversation they had overheard, Heath’s expression darkened. "Evan, how about we split up? You take a team to check out the situation over there, and Zoe and I will handle things here."

He could just imagine it: if the residents of this building noticed something wrong with their electricity and came down to check, they’d find the body.

With no surveillance cameras around, and the man in the work uniform carrying hydraulic cutters and looking fully equipped for the job, it would be easy for them to assume he’d been accidentally electrocuted while stealing wires.

If the case were closed that hastily, the real killer would get away with it!

Evan Keller understood the implications as well and agreed to Heath’s proposal without a moment’s hesitation.

"Alright, but you two be careful," Evan cautioned before picking a few officers to go with him.

The situation over there was also urgent and couldn’t be delayed.

So, after weighing the options, splitting up was indeed much better than staying together.

Hayden Shaw went with Evan Keller, while Sean Hughes chose to stay behind.

Zoe and Heath exchanged a look, then walked in silent agreement toward where Beau was stationed.

To catch the killer, they first needed to identify the victim, map out his usual haunts, and then narrow down the killer’s specific information through his social connections.

But now that they had seen the killer’s face, the fastest method was to have Beau sketch him and give it to Officer Lee to run a search.

Otherwise, trying to figure out where the crime scene was would be like finding a needle in a haystack!

Zoe and Heath took turns describing the victim’s appearance, quickly building a complete picture.

Zoe even added a few details Heath hadn’t remembered, further increasing the accuracy of the portrait.

"That’s pretty much him."

Zoe looked at the sketch, recalling the scene she’d witnessed through the door, and gave a firm, certain nod.

Once confirmed, Heath handed the sketch to Officer Lee, who had been waiting nearby.

The moment he received the sketch, Officer Lee scanned it and began matching it against the database.

Because the sketch was so accurate, it took less than ten minutes for Officer Lee to find a potential match.

"Aaron Nash. He used to work for a security and property management company. After the company went out of business due to poor performance, he started doing odd jobs around that neighborhood to make a living." Officer Lee’s fingers flew across the keyboard as he relayed the information he’d found to Zoe and Heath.

When he saw the address on file, Officer Lee’s eyes widened. He double-checked it to be sure, then looked at Zoe and said, "This Aaron Nash’s address is near the residential complex Captain Keller’s team is heading to."

In other words, that complex was also within Aaron Nash’s "odd job" territory.

’He’d done it in that complex not far from here, too, and no one had found out yet,’ Zoe quickly recalled the conversation from her vision.

’Done what?’

’Stolen ground wires?’

In the very next second, Zoe remembered everything she had seen through the door.

’That eighteen-story residential building... a lot of pet owners there said their pets had been restless and agitated, but returned to normal as soon as they went outside.’

’Could it be because the building’s ground wires were stolen, causing many objects to carry a current? Pets are more sensitive, so they would become anxious and agitated.’

In an instant, many things that hadn’t made sense suddenly clicked into place.

Zoe tugged on Heath’s sleeve and explained her theory.

"That’s highly likely! I’ll contact Evan right now and tell him about this possibility, so he knows to look out for it." Heath strode to his desk, picked up his phone, and dialed Evan Keller’s number. He relayed both the new information and Zoe’s recent speculation.

After hearing the report, Evan’s voice held a trace of excitement. "For real? I’ll get in touch with the colleagues over there right now and have them start investigating."

After the call ended, Zoe noticed Officer Lee had found a new lead.

"Based on Aaron Nash’s address, I found some forum posts. They seem to be related to him, or maybe this Mr. Wallace. Captain Sawyer, you two should take a look. This might be a new breakthrough." Officer Lee stepped aside, turning the computer screen toward Zoe and Heath.

Anyone know about that guy named Nash in Norvane?

Warning! If you live near Norwick, don’t hire this guy!

Just wondering, what’s Mr. Wallace at Brightpath Academy like?

There were a few more posts below with similar titles.

Zoe’s eyes lit up. She quickly scanned the posts about Aaron Nash. The descriptions and comments painted the picture of a greedy, lecherous, and downright creepy man.

According to the original poster, her boyfriend was away on a business trip last year, so he couldn’t help her move.

In a rush, she had to find a temp worker in the area to help her.

Since it was the middle of a hot summer, the woman gave him a bottle of mineral water and some bread.

Perhaps because of this gesture, Aaron Nash seemed to decide the woman was a soft-spoken pushover. He started showing up every few days, knocking on her door to ask for fruit or bread.

Not wanting to encourage him, the woman refused a few times. Although Aaron Nash stopped coming up to her apartment, every time she went downstairs, she would see him in some corner, eyeing her predatorily.

When he noticed her looking back, Aaron Nash even had the nerve to give her a leering grin.

Eventually, the woman decided this couldn’t go on and called the police, hoping they would warn him to stop staring at her.

Because Aaron Nash had never actually laid a hand on her, his actions could only be classified as harassment at most, so the police could only issue a verbal warning.

The woman’s actions angered Aaron Nash. Over the next few days, his behavior became more secretive and escalated.

He even wore a ski mask one night and snuck over to knock on her door.

If her boyfriend hadn’t happened to come home that night, who knows what would have happened.

"A scumbag who toes the line of the law."
