Chapter 364: Chapter 364: Then No One Will Threaten Me Anymore

Zoe Sawyer quickly described the vision she had seen to the others as they approached.

When they heard about a residential building exploding with heavy casualties, Evan Keller and the others couldn’t sit still.

"Do you have a specific address and time?" Evan Keller didn’t waste a moment, asking the most crucial question.

Zoe Sawyer nodded. ’Of course I do!’

A moment later, Zoe Sawyer told Evan Keller and the others the address and time she had seen.

Hearing they still had a day, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.

’That means we still have a chance!’

Evan Keller quickly reported the information from Zoe Sawyer to his chief and received approval to head out.

Because she had been under their surveillance, Zoe Sawyer hadn’t left the house in nearly a month. This was a perfect opportunity to get out and stretch her legs.

"The chief has already spoken with the head of that jurisdiction. We’ll be allowed to participate in the case," Evan Keller briefly explained.

Hearing they could go out, the team excitedly high-fived. Just as Zoe Sawyer was about to pack her things, a sudden tingling sensation shot from her fingertips through her entire body.

It was immediately followed by the familiar sensation she got when the door was opening.

Zoe Sawyer reacted instantly. Ignoring the startled and confused looks from the others, she rushed to the door as fast as she could.

She grabbed the doorknob and opened it.

A narrow, cramped space appeared before her. The walls were covered in a dense web of electrical wires, which looked more like the blood vessels of some massive creature.

A man in a yellow work vest stood with his back to Zoe Sawyer. He wore white insulated gloves and held a pair of large hydraulic cutters, which he used to viciously snip at a cable on the wall.

This time, the door gave no indication. She wasn’t sure if this was a vision of the past, the future, or something happening in the present.

Zoe Sawyer could only tentatively pick up a nearby pen and try to pass it through to test what was happening.

But a moment later, the pen was blocked, unable to pass through.

’So it’s either the past or the future.’

Realizing this, Zoe Sawyer pushed the door open a little wider to get a better look.

Heath Hale had been watching Zoe Sawyer closely. When he saw her let out a soft breath, he stepped forward and took her hand, which was hanging by her side.

Then, they looked through the doorway together.

Behind them, Sean Hughes looked as if he wanted to say something but held his tongue, ultimately swallowing his words.

’Oh well,’ he thought. ’It’s not interfering with work. If they want to hold hands, let them.’

On the other side of the door, the scene continued. The man was pulling the copper wire he needed from the severed cable.

He had just started when a similarly dressed man walked in through a door behind him. This newcomer wore a mask that completely obscured the lower half of his face.

Hearing the noise behind him, the man in the yellow work vest turned around, a smile on his unremarkable face. "Mr. Wallace, you’re here. Punctual as ever. Guess that’s what you’d expect from a teacher."

The masked man, Mr. Wallace, stood with his hands in his pockets. His tone was cold. "Alright, why did you call me here?

"Spit it out. I’m in a rush."

The workman gestured toward Mr. Wallace with the hydraulic cutters, his tone feigning innocence. "Can’t you see? I’m a bit tight on cash, and the debt collectors are knocking at my door again. I need some money to tide me over."

Mr. Wallace frowned. "So you’re stealing ground wires? But these copper wires will only sell for a few hundred bucks, right?"

’A few hundred bucks? Is that enough to handle debt collectors?’

"Well, that’s why I came looking for you, isn’t it?" The workman’s face was plastered with a blatant, malicious grin, his eyes locked onto Mr. Wallace. "Those things you’ve got stashed in the next room... if you don’t want me to spill the beans, you’ll give me fifty thousand.

"Once I have the money, I guarantee no one will be able to pry my mouth open.

"Otherwise... well, I can’t guarantee I won’t let something slip when I’m sleeping or having a drink. And if that happens, your precious reputation will be ruined."

The workman’s face was brimming with malice.

Mr. Wallace, the target of his threat, said nothing. He stared fixedly at the workman before finally asking, "And if I give you the money, that means you’ll keep your mouth shut about this forever?"

"Who knows? As long as you give me enough." The workman splayed his five fingers in a ’gimme’ gesture.

Mr. Wallace stared at the insatiably greedy face before him. He knew that if he gave in just once, this man would be latched onto him for good.

His gaze swept over the cable the workman had just cut, and an idea quickly formed in his mind.

Mr. Wallace walked over to the cable the workman had severed. He leaned down to inspect the cut, his tone full of false admiration. "Such clean work. It looks like you’ve done this many times before."

Hearing this, the workman couldn’t help but puff out his chest. "You bet. When it comes to this, I’m one of the best.

"I even did that residential complex not far from here! The guys who showed up at the scene didn’t find a thing!"

As he spoke, the workman felt his hands getting itchy again. He walked over to Mr. Wallace’s side, aimed his cutters at another cable, and was about to make a cut.

BZZZT—

A blinding blue arc of electricity erupted in the air. The workman’s eyes widened in terror. His hydraulic cutters had apparently touched something live. A blue current instantly shot up the tool and swarmed over his entire body.

"AHH!"

A bloodcurdling scream ripped from the workman’s throat. In less than two seconds, he fell backward, as stiff as a charred log.

The instant the arc appeared, Mr. Wallace had already leaped out of the room with incredible speed, taking cover in a safe spot.

He then stood in the doorway, looking at the corpse on the floor, a smile playing on his lips.

"There, much better," Mr. Wallace said with a grin. "Now no one will ever threaten me again. And you don’t have to worry about your creditors hounding you for money anymore."

He glanced at the body one last time, then briskly shut the door and walked away, humming a tune.

"What a wonderful day~"
