Chapter 319: Chapter 319: If you have the guts, say it again in front of them?

Evan Keller glanced at the photo that had been sent over.

The person was bundled up tightly, not missing a mask or a hat. But considering the recent flu season, this attire didn’t draw too much attention.

The officers stationed along the route covertly monitored the young man’s every move, ready to act if he did anything unusual.

The young man felt that something wasn’t quite right. It seemed like there were more people around than usual.

But a quick glance revealed nothing out of the ordinary.

The pedestrians around him seemed normal, each one busy with their own affairs.

’It must be my imagination. Whatever. Big Bro said he’ll pay me after a few more deliveries, and then I’ll have the money to pay off my debts.’ The young man shook his head, pushing the strange, unsettling feeling to the back of his mind as he started to calculate his upcoming profit.

As he did the math, he bounced happily a few times and quickened his pace toward the Thompsons’ place.

"The target is unaware. He’s heading up toward the Thompsons’ now." An officer stationed not far from the building’s entrance watched the young man go inside and updated Evan Keller on his progress.

Evan Keller nodded. If the man took the elevator, it wouldn’t take long.

With that in mind, Evan Keller reminded Hannah Thompson to maintain her act and not give anything away.

After giving the instruction, Evan Keller took a few officers and hid in a corner on the other side of the hall, making sure they wouldn’t be seen.

They didn’t know if the delivery person would look inside the apartment this time.

To avoid being exposed, they had to be cautious.

Soon, the doorbell rang. At a signal from Evan Keller, Hannah Thompson jogged over to open the door, creating the impression that she was eager and couldn’t wait.

As soon as she opened it, she saw the same thing as before: a single item in a plastic bag sitting on the doorstep.

Hannah Thompson, mimicking her previous actions, put on a look of pleasant surprise and eagerly snatched the item inside. She didn’t look around at all, and so she naturally didn’t notice the young man peeking from the side of the hallway.

Since he hadn’t received any message from his team, Evan Keller didn’t make any sudden moves and remained hidden quietly.

The young man watched for several minutes. After confirming that everything was normal, he pulled the brim of his hat down and headed downstairs.

On his way out, the young man accidentally bumped right into someone who was looking down at their phone.

"Whoa, sorry, sorry! Are you hurt?" The officer, pretending to have just realized he’d bumped into someone, quickly reached out and grabbed the young man, who was about to fall.

After steadying him, the officer looked him over from head to toe, muttering, "You’re not hurt, are you? No, no... Phew, my wallet is safe."

The officer took this opportunity to stick a tiny tracking device onto the back of the young man’s collar.

It was a specially modified model from the police department. A standard scanner couldn’t detect it, and its signal had been enhanced, which would be a huge help for tracking him later.

The young man waved a hand, dodging the officer’s arm as he reached out again.

"I’m fine, I’m fine." He was in a hurry to get back, so he paid no mind to the man’s odd behavior.

Only after seeing a colleague on the other side nod to confirm the tracker was active did the officer stand up straight and apologize to the young man.

Back at the Thompsons’ apartment, Hannah Thompson took everything out of the bag. After confirming there was nothing extra or unexpected, she pushed the contents toward Evan Keller.

Unlike the small pills initially disguised as diet medication, what the supplier had sent Hannah Thompson this time—in an effort to keep such a big client—was in its purest form.

Evan Keller put on a pair of gloves and carefully opened one of the bags of white powder.

The moment his nose neared the opening, the acetic smell of vinegar flooded his nostrils.

"Alright, this is the real deal." As soon as he confirmed it, Evan Keller quickly held his breath and sealed the bag.

Then he turned to Hannah Thompson and her mother, who were standing to the side, and said, "Miss Thompson, you’ve been a great help. Once your classmate gets here and we apprehend her, we can all go.

After that, you just need to cooperate with the doctors, and you’ll definitely be able to kick this stuff quickly."

Receiving Evan Keller’s reassurance once again, Hannah Thompson’s terrified and uneasy heart was greatly soothed.

At that moment, Evan Keller’s phone vibrated a few times.

He took it out and saw a picture of a mother and daughter, taken from behind, sent a minute ago by an officer downstairs.

Before Evan Keller could figure it out, there was another knock on the door, followed by the sound of a frantic-sounding woman’s voice.

"Hannah Thompson, open the door! I’m here to get what’s mine!"

Hearing this, Evan Keller and the others instantly realized the person at the door must be Vivian Jills.

"Go on. Get them inside, and this will be almost over," Evan Keller said, patting Hannah Thompson’s shoulder.

"Okay!"

Hannah Thompson looked through the peephole and saw that besides Vivian Jills, her mother was also there, steadily supporting her daughter with a worried look in her eyes.

When she saw Hannah Thompson open the door, Vivian Jills’s mother looked at her with an apologetic expression. "I’m so sorry, Hannah. Vivi has caused you so much trouble.

It’s all my fault. If I were a little more useful, a little better off, we wouldn’t have to come bother you.

It’s all my fault. I don’t have your mother’s capabilities, and I let Vivi get mixed up in this stuff."

As she spoke, she guided her daughter into the Thompsons’ apartment.

"Yeah, you really are useless. You let Vivian Jills act like a beggar, threatening me for money and drugs," Hannah Thompson shot back as she stepped aside to let them in.

Ever since she’d witnessed Vivian Jills going through withdrawal and saw her mother expertly fetch her water and the drugs, Hannah Thompson knew that her classmate’s family was rotten to the core.

When her own mother found out, she had dragged her to the police station, willing to risk her going to jail just to get her off the drugs.

But Vivian Jills’s mother, even knowing what her daughter was taking and that she was dragging an innocent classmate down with her for money, remained indifferent.

That’s why, upon hearing the mother’s words, Hannah didn’t offer the comforting platitudes the woman likely expected. She just lashed out.

Vivian Jills’s mother, Ms. Logan, froze. But remembering she hadn’t yet achieved her goal for this visit, she pretended not to hear and continued guiding her daughter inside.

Unlike her mother, Vivian Jills didn’t have as much self-control.

Thinking she had leverage over Hannah Thompson, and hearing her insult her mother, Vivian Jills stopped and glared at Hannah, who was walking beside her. "Apologize to my mom. Then, give me all the stuff you just bought. Otherwise, I’ll spill everything about you."

"You got the guts? Say that again in front of them."
