My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 318: Give Me Half of the Stuff
Chapter 318: Chapter 318: Give Me Half of the Stuff
The man on the other end of the line paused. He knew why Hannah Thompson had been roped into this.
He also remembered that Hannah had bought more after learning the truth and returning home. So her now asking for a more potent version seemed understandable.
He recalled Vivian Jills bragging to him that Hannah Thompson’s mother was a businesswoman, wealthier than Vivian’s own family.
That meant he could squeeze even more profit out of her.
The suspicion in his heart began to fade.
Still, he felt a bit uneasy. "Sure," he said. "I have something more potent, but it’s more expensive."
"Now, flip your camera around and give me a tour of your house."
As soon as the man said this, Evan Keller and his team, who had been standing in the corner, moved swiftly and silently out of the Thompson’s living room and into the hallway by the front door.
Since they weren’t far, Evan Keller could still see what was happening on Hannah Thompson’s phone.
Hannah Thompson followed the man’s instructions, giving him a full tour of her house. She periodically switched camera views as he directed, confirming that no one else was in the house besides her and her mother.
Once he had the confirmation he wanted, the man nodded in satisfaction. ’Excellent. It looks like this big fish has really taken the bait. I can afford to be a little more ruthless.’
’Once I bleed her dry, she’ll get desperate for more money and will definitely try to recruit new customers for me. Then my client base will just keep growing.’
The man couldn’t help but chuckle, apparently imagining the delightful prospect.
"Hannah, you want something stronger, and it’s not that I don’t have it, but the price... well, you know how it is." The man’s tone was conspiratorial.
He then tapped his finger on his screen, sending a price to Hannah Thompson’s phone.
When she saw the price he’d sent, Hannah Thompson couldn’t help but gasp.
It was more than three times the price of the third "treatment course" she had just purchased!
"Since you’re a new client, I can offer you a fresh batch. I guarantee it’ll give you the results you want as fast as possible." The man reached out, picked up a small bag of powder, and dangled it in front of the camera.
He watched as Hannah Thompson’s eyes uncontrollably followed the bag of powder, and he listened as her breathing grew heavy and ragged.
The man set the bag down with exceptional calm and leaned back in his chair.
’Hooked.’
Sure enough, a moment later, he heard Hannah Thompson’s voice. "Fine, I’ll buy it!"
"When can you have it delivered?"
"As soon as the money hits my account, I’ll have someone send it over immediately." With that, the man hung up.
Less than a minute later, a payment notification popped up on his phone. A smile spread across the man’s face as he looked at the amount.
He waved over a subordinate waiting nearby and motioned for him to deliver the package to Hannah Thompson.
On Hannah Thompson’s end, the moment she hung up, all the strength left her body and she collapsed onto the sofa.
Evan Keller and his team pushed the door open and re-entered.
"Officer, am I really going to be okay?" Hannah Thompson’s voice was filled with terror. ’I bought more. Will my crime be even worse now?’
Seeing Hannah’s fear, Evan Keller squatted down in front of her, his tone serious. "You’ll be fine, don’t worry. This purchase was made to help the police crack this case. We’re all aware of that."
"After we make the arrest today, I’ll have someone take you to the hospital for an examination. We need to find out exactly how much you’ve taken so we can arrange for you to go to a detox center."
"You’re young, you haven’t used much, and you were tricked into it. Plus, the law protects you. No one besides us will know about this, so rest assured."
Hannah Thompson’s main worries were whether her actions would damage her reputation and her family’s, and whether she would be convicted for drug use.
After getting Evan Keller’s definitive reassurance, she finally relaxed.
Just then, a call came in from Vivian Jills.
At a signal from Evan Keller, Hannah Thompson answered the phone.
"Hannah Thompson! You’re not answering my texts, and now you’ve gone and bought something better! Give me half, or I’ll tell everyone everything!" Vivian Jills’ voice was laced with hysteria and jealousy.
She knew what Hannah Thompson valued most, so she showed no mercy with her threats.
The mere thought of Hannah getting something better made Vivian’s heart burn with acidic jealousy. She wanted nothing more than to rush over to Hannah’s house right now and snatch it all for herself.
Vivian Jills’ words made the color drain from Hannah Thompson’s face. Now she truly understood the meaning behind Evan Keller’s warning.
If she had really caved to Vivian Jills’ threats and given her what she wanted, she would never be free of Vivian’s grasp for the rest of her life.
Before Hannah Thompson could reply, a series of CRASHES and CLATTERS came from Vivian Jills’ end of the line, followed by the heavy THUD of something hitting the floor.
Hannah Thompson didn’t understand what was happening, but Evan Keller and his team did. It was the sound of someone whose limbs were too weak, trying to grab onto something to pull themselves up, accidentally sweeping everything off it, and then losing their balance and falling over.
Evan Keller typed a message on his phone and held it out for Hannah Thompson to see.
’Agree. Tell her to come get it. We’ll arrest them both at the same time.’
Hannah Thompson had no intention of letting Vivian Jills get away with this. After the whimpering on the other end subsided, she spoke. "Fine. Come over. I’ll give you half, but this is the only time!"
Hearing the answer she wanted, Vivian Jills naturally agreed without a moment’s hesitation.
And as for Hannah’s "only this once"?
’If it happens once, it’ll happen again. If I can get her to bend to my will once, I can do it a second time, and a third!’
After hanging up, Hannah Thompson looked at Evan Keller, her tone hesitant. "Officer... will someone like Vivian Jills be convicted?"
"Yes. According to your statement, she knowingly tricked you into taking drugs under the guise of diet pills. That’s a crime, and she will be held criminally responsible."
"As for the specific sentence, we won’t know that until the case is concluded," Evan Keller replied, nodding without hesitation.
Hearing that Vivian Jills would face consequences, the last of Hannah Thompson’s worries finally vanished.
Just then, a man’s voice crackled in Evan Keller’s earpiece.
It was one of the officers stationed outside.
"Captain Keller, we have a young man heading toward the Thompson residence. His pockets are bulging, he looks nervous, and he keeps looking around as he walks."
"We’ve run facial recognition against all the residents. This man doesn’t live in the complex. Photo sent." The officer, dressed in plainclothes, raised his phone as if taking a selfie.
In reality, he had used the moment when the man wasn’t looking to snap a photo and send it to Evan Keller.
He then quickly struck a different pose before the man could look his way.
"Good. All other units, be ready. Stick to the original plan!"
