My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 320: She Lives in My House
Chapter 320: Chapter 320: She Lives in My House
Upon hearing Vivian Jills’s words, a strange smile appeared on Hannah Thompson’s face.
When Ms. Logan saw Hannah Thompson’s smile, a bad feeling inexplicably welled up inside her.
’Who?’
’Who is she talking to?’
Vivian Jills didn’t notice. Instead, she continued to shout defiantly, "What’s there to be afraid to say? If you’ve got the guts, call the police! Let’s see who has more to lose!"
The next second, Evan Keller and his team appeared before Vivian Jills and her mother.
"Police. We received a report that you are suspected of luring a minor into drug use. You’ll have to come with us," Evan Keller said, showing his badge to the mother and daughter.
Vivian Jills, who had been so arrogant just a moment ago, immediately deflated upon seeing Evan Keller’s badge.
’She couldn’t believe it. Hannah Thompson had actually called the police!’
’Isn’t she afraid her family will get dragged into this because of her drug use?’
Ms. Logan quickly pulled Vivian Jills behind her and said with a placating smile, "It’s a misunderstanding, a complete misunderstanding, Officer.
The two girls had a fight and were just saying nonsense. Nothing like that happened. Our daughter has always been a good girl; she would never do something like this."
Ms. Logan spoke as she protectively shielded Vivian Jills, backing away.
’She regretted coming here so rashly.’
’If she hadn’t brought Vivi and had come alone, she might have been able to find an excuse to get away with it.’
But she hadn’t taken more than a few steps before Evan Keller and his officers blocked her path.
Evan Keller stared at the flustered Ms. Logan and said, "Miss Thompson was brought to the station by her own mother this afternoon for a test. It has already been confirmed that she has taken drugs.
According to Miss Thompson’s statement, the ’diet pills’ she first obtained were all from Vivian Jills. We’ll have to ask you both to come back to the station with us to give a statement and undergo a toxicology screening."
Vivian Jills shook her head frantically.
’I can’t go, I absolutely can’t go!’
’She knew her own situation. If she took that test, the results would be exactly the same as Hannah Thompson’s!’
Ms. Logan didn’t want to go either. Forcing a smile, she said, "Officer, my Vivi isn’t feeling well, so she won’t be going.
If you have any questions, you can just ask me."
Evan Keller shook his head and glanced at the officers beside him, signaling for them to restrain her.
Watching the struggling Vivian Jills, Evan Keller said, "Luring and tricking a minor into taking drugs is punishable by up to three years in prison, plus a fine."
Vivian Jills, who had been struggling, froze. She stared at Evan Keller in utter disbelief, her voice trembling. "I’m a minor!"
"Being a minor isn’t a shield that protects you from everything. Your actions are very serious. If you have something to say, you can say it back at the station." Evan Keller didn’t want to waste any more time here with Vivian Jills and her mother, so he ordered his officers to take them away.
Ms. Logan froze. Seeing her daughter about to be taken away, she lunged forward to pull the two officers off her, but Evan Keller blocked her, grabbing her by the arm. "Ma’am, you also need to come with us to give a statement."
After Evan Keller and his officers came out, Hannah Thompson and her aunt didn’t say another word. They quickly gathered up the newly bought powder and followed Evan Keller’s group.
As soon as they got downstairs, an officer who had been waiting near the building entrance came up to meet them.
"Follow the signal and set up a perimeter. Once you’ve scouted out the situation, wait for my command," Evan Keller said, quickly making arrangements after a moment of thought.
He planned to ask Zoe Sawyer to use her Door ability to determine how many accomplices the young deliveryman had.
That way, they could arrange the right number of personnel to send over.
"Yes, sir!" the officer replied. He signaled to the others, and they headed off in the direction of the tracker.
Seeing this, Vivian Jills and Ms. Logan lost all will to struggle.
’Even the supplier was being targeted. It seemed like their excuses were pointless now.’
Soon, Evan Keller and his officers brought the four of them back to the police station.
The man watching from across the street from the station saw Evan Keller return and frowned. ’Why are they back again? Besides the three of them, there are four other people in the car?’
’Looks like two of them were here this afternoon?’
Before he could make sense of it, the man put the matter out of his mind.
’Anyway, it was already quitting time, and they didn’t pay overtime. No need for him to get too hung up on it.’
Meanwhile, on Evan Keller’s side, the closer they got to the police station, the more anxious Vivian Jills became.
By the time she was led into the interrogation room, the anxiety on Vivian Jills’s face was unmistakable.
’What do I do? What do I do?’
’Iris never told her how to handle a situation like this.’
’And that cop just said she’d go to jail for luring a minor!’
’Iris never said anything about that either! She just said not to be afraid, that even if she got caught, the police would go easy on her because she was a minor.’
’That they wouldn’t really punish her!’
"I’ve already heard the details from Miss Thompson. Why don’t you tell me about your sister?" Evan Keller said, looking at the dazed Vivian Jills. He tapped his pen on the table to get her attention. "Don’t even think about lying to the police. We have many ways to verify the truthfulness of your statement.
If you lie to the police and obstruct our investigation to protect someone else, your sentence will only be more severe."
The excuses she was about to make caught in her throat, and a flicker of bewilderment crossed Vivian Jills’s eyes.
The conviction that had been so firm in her mind began to waver.
’But... the police had no reason to lie to her, did they?’
"I..." Vivian Jills opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say.
Evan Keller could see her internal struggle, and his stern tone softened considerably. "You’re still young. If you admit your mistakes and cooperate with us to get clean, you can go back to a normal life once you’ve kicked this habit.
There’s no need to keep secrets for a junkie, right? Don’t you want to be free of all this?"
She thought about her family’s tight finances, and then about how, in the throes of withdrawal, the suffering was so intense she wished she could just die.
The scales in Vivian Jills’s heart tipped at once. ’Of course she wanted to go back to a normal life!’
"If I tell you everything I know... can I avoid jail time?" Vivian Jills asked in a hoarse voice after a long silence.
’There’s a chance!’
Evan Keller rejoiced inwardly, but his face remained impassive.
"I can’t guarantee that. But if you cooperate with the investigation and tell us everything you know, you might even have a chance to get credit for meritorious service.
When the court passes judgment, they might take that into consideration and reduce your sentence.
But if you continue to resist, mislead the police, and obstruct our investigation, then we’ll probably have to add another charge to the list." Evan Keller didn’t make a definitive promise of a lighter sentence, merely laying out the possible outcomes for Vivian Jills.
Although she was a little disappointed, Vivian Jills knew this was her only chance.
"Iris—the older girl who got me into drugs—is living at my house right now."
