Chapter 295: Chapter 295: She Is Finished

Lynn Shawcross was stunned for a moment by the sudden slap, then she seemed to realize her reaction had been too revealing.

She roared back with twice the volume, "I didn’t kill anyone! If you’ve got proof I murdered someone, then show it to me!"

Outside the door, Zoe Sawyer watched Lynn Shawcross’s stubborn-to-the-bitter-end act and frowned in frustration.

Because the deceased had been kept in a freezer, it was somewhat difficult to determine the precise time of death.

Even with the help of advanced technology, the results wouldn’t be ready that quickly.

Lynn Shawcross wouldn’t confess unless they presented her with irrefutable evidence.

Zoe Sawyer paced back and forth anxiously. ’What do we do now?’

’Maybe I should go back and try again. Even if I don’t know the exact time, maybe I can rewatch from the point where they jumped to the balcony below?’

Heath Hale noticed Zoe Sawyer’s anxiety and preoccupation. He reached out, took her arm, and pulled her to his side, comforting her in a gentle voice, "Don’t worry. This isn’t the first time we’ve dealt with someone this obstructive. Evan Keller will handle it."

They had solved cases before without Zoe Sawyer’s ability; it made no sense that they couldn’t crack this one now, with the evidence right at their fingertips.

Heath Hale still had great confidence in Evan Keller and the others.

"Okay, maybe I’m just too eager to solve this case and getting a little anxious." Zoe Sawyer obediently stopped pacing, patted her cheeks, and said, deflated.

Since Heath Hale had said as much, Zoe Sawyer calmed herself and stared into the interrogation room, curious to see what was happening.

Evan Keller stared at Lynn Shawcross for a long moment, then smiled. "You want evidence? Fine, I’ll give you evidence."

With that, Evan Keller played a video and placed it in front of Lynn Shawcross, whose expression had turned to one of panic and unease.

It was a short video, but the picture and sound quality were good, so Lynn Shawcross got to relive the entire process of her climbing into Yvonne Wayne’s home.

There was even a clip where the deceased called out her name.

"Now, what do you have to say?" Evan Keller put his phone away and sat back down.

The same name, a similar appearance, the fact that Lynn Shawcross had previously rented this place and left behind a freezer—which became the hiding spot for the body.

Too many coincidences piled up are no longer a coincidence.

Lynn Shawcross’s previously confident expression turned deathly pale. She was about to retort when she heard Evan Keller speak again. "Do you know why we were able to pinpoint your location so precisely?"

"It’s because we have a special source. She provided us with the entire process of your crime. Absolutely true."

Evan Keller emphasized the last two words, and Lynn Shawcross’s heart instantly clenched tight.

’Only two people knew where Yvonne Wayne was being held. Besides me, who else could it be?’

She barely had to think before the figure of a man popped into her head.

"Was it that bastard Gabriel Stone who told you where she was? Did he also say I killed her?" Lynn Shawcross’s voice turned shrill, filled with the fury of betrayal.

’Did Gabriel Zelda tell them everything? Is he going to pin all the blame on me?’

’Doesn’t that mean I’ll be taking the fall for everything?’

Evan Keller’s expression didn’t change, as if he hadn’t heard a thing.

’Well, the intel from Zoe Sawyer’s ability is certainly special, and it is absolutely true.’

He wasn’t lying; he just hadn’t named the source of the information.

"He was the one who couldn’t forget Yvonne Wayne, shouting her name in his sleep! Why else would I have gone after her again?" Lynn Shawcross slammed her hand on the table in a fit of rage, so agitated that the words just came tumbling out. "We killed the woman together! He can’t pin all the blame on me!"

’There it is!’

Evan Keller’s eyes lit up. His grip on his pen tightened as he lowered his head, pretending to flip through the documents in his hands. He continued to guide her impassively, "Oh? Is that so? But the information we received says otherwise."

Lynn Shawcross, now blinded by fury, ignored whatever they had agreed upon beforehand and blurted everything out. "Bullshit! I knocked her out, sure, but he was the one who suggested putting her in the freezer on the roof!"

"He added the ice, he put her inside, and he even bought the generator for the freezer! He’s the real culprit."

Evan Keller’s pen flew across the page, his eyes shining as he recorded everything Lynn Shawcross said.

’Just one last thing!’

Before Evan Keller could speak, Lynn Shawcross continued, "I knew that Gabriel Zelda couldn’t be trusted! Good thing I didn’t turn off my phone back then. I recorded everything!"

"Otherwise, he would’ve totally screwed me over!"

’Excellent! The most crucial piece of evidence has emerged!’

As if possessed, Lynn Shawcross first recounted everything they had done, then fell into a reminiscence, clutching her head with both hands and muttering endlessly about the past.

Blaming Yvonne Wayne, blaming Gabriel Zelda, blaming her parents, blaming everyone—but never once blaming herself.

Evan Keller remained silent, waiting until she had finished complaining about everything and fallen quiet before he spoke. "Are you done? Since you’ve confessed to your actions, you can now await the judgment of the law."

Now calm, Lynn Shawcross just sat there quietly, her head bowed, with no fight left in her.

’It’s over for me.’

Lynn Shawcross had never been so certain of anything in her life.

’I’ve said everything anyway. Whatever happens next, happens.’

Evan Keller ignored Lynn Shawcross, who was slumped in her chair, and walked out of the interrogation room with his notebook.

"Lynn Shawcross’s phone is with the tech department, right? Tell them to crack it immediately. Check for any private folders and find that video she filmed." Evan Keller instructed a team member waiting outside.

"Yes, sir!"

The team member acknowledged the order and hurried off to the tech department.

"So you’re going to interrogate that Gabriel Zelda next?" Zoe Sawyer asked after Evan Keller stopped.

"Right. With Lynn Shawcross’s confession, this next one will only be easier." Evan Keller brandished the notebook in his hand, his smile relaxing.

Recalling how Lynn Shawcross had clamored that her father would make them pay, Zoe Sawyer asked hesitantly, "We shouldn’t have to worry about Lynn Shawcross’s parents, right?"

In all the movies and novels she’d seen, there were always cases of murderers using their family background to escape justice.

Zoe Sawyer was a little worried that Evan Keller and the others might not be able to withstand the pressure.

"Don’t worry, what you’re imagining won’t happen. In the worst-case scenario, the Chief is there to back us up," Heath Hale immediately understood what Zoe Sawyer was getting at and explained with an amused tone.

These two froze a person to death, tried to frame someone else, and even forged medical records. The nature of their crime is extremely heinous.

"As long as it won’t happen." Zoe Sawyer kicked at the ground, a little embarrassed.

’Damn those TV shows and novels!’
