My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 284: I Didn’t Kill Him, He Committed Suicide
Chapter 284: Chapter 284: I Didn’t Kill Him, He Committed Suicide
Mr. Lynch, whose legs were already weak and unsteady from a guilty conscience, completely collapsed to the ground again when he heard that Evan Keller and his team had pulled something from Florinwell.
’It’s over. This time, it’s really over.’
Leaving a few officers to watch the man in the duckbill cap and Mr. Lynch, the rest followed the others into the greenhouse to see what was going on.
An hour later, the skeletal remains in Florinwell were completely recovered.
The remains had been dismembered into several pieces and were soaking at the very bottom of Florinwell. The skin on the surface had begun to rot, and in some places, stark white bone was already exposed.
Fortunately, however, the head wasn’t severely decomposed, and the person’s identity could still be determined.
"He looks very similar to the Mr. Lynch outside, just a bit older. It seems what the man in the duckbill cap said is highly likely," Sean Hughes couldn’t help but remark, looking at the body on the ground.
Even though they had their suspicions before coming over, he still couldn’t help but sigh now that they were confirmed.
"Secure the scene. Take the body and those two back to the station," Evan Keller quickly arranged everything. At the same time, he didn’t forget to have someone contact Mrs. Lynch and her daughter and tell them to return immediately.
For something like this, the family needed to be present.
As he was being escorted out, Mr. Lynch looked up and saw the gossiping eyes of his neighbors, and his face turned even more deathly pale.
’It’s all over. I’ve ruined everything.’
This thought swirled in his mind until the interrogation began. Only then did Mr. Lynch lift his head in a daze and look at the two police officers sitting in front of him.
Evan Keller knocked on the table, drawing Mr. Lynch’s attention back to him. He then stared at the man before him and asked, "Mr. Lynch, or should I call you Dean Lynch? Explain why you impersonated your own brother. And why did you kill him!"
Dean Lynch snapped his head up, glaring at Evan Keller. "I didn’t!"
"What didn’t you do? You didn’t kill him, or you didn’t impersonate him?
You need to understand, you’re at the police station. We have many ways to verify whether or not you’re Dean Lynch. What you need to do is tell us everything from start to finish.
Or would you rather wait until your sister-in-law and niece get back?" Evan Keller stared at Dean Lynch, his tone stern.
Dean Lynch’s hands on the table clenched into tight fists. His entire body was tense.
Evan Keller relaxed his tone at the right moment. "As long as you cooperate with the police and explain everything clearly, perhaps there’s still room for leniency?"
Dean Lynch kept his fists clenched tightly, his thoughts unreadable.
Evan Keller wasn’t in a hurry. The three of them remained at a standstill in the interrogation room.
Compared to the stalemate with Dean Lynch, the interrogation with the man in the duckbill cap was also at a standstill.
Perhaps knowing he couldn’t escape, the man in the duckbill cap was cooperative during the interrogation, answering every question asked.
However, his answers were all somewhat ambiguous. As soon as they delved deeper, he would make his own demands.
The colleagues at the station couldn’t handle him, so they quickly called for Heath Hale, preparing to hand the battlefield over to him.
"Don’t worry, we have people who specialize in interrogating this criminal group.
I’ve already called them. Someone will be here soon." Heath Hale shook his head at the officer who had come to get him, signaling that there was no need to rush.
The people under that "Big Sis" have definitely all undergone some training. A normal interrogation won’t get any information out of them.
We have to leave it to someone with experience."
Knowing someone else was taking over, the officers here breathed a sigh of relief. Soon, the man in the duckbill cap was left alone in the interrogation room.
"I..." Amidst the silence, Dean Lynch couldn’t hold back any longer and was the first to speak.
Evan Keller and the officer next to him exchanged a glance, a flash of delight in their eyes.
’Finally!’
"I am Dean Lynch. The one in Florinwell... that was indeed my brother." Dean Lynch’s expression was bitter. It seemed he had to do a lot of mental preparation before finally deciding to speak.
"So, you really did kill your brother?" Evan Keller immediately followed up.
Upon hearing this, Dean Lynch slammed his hand on the table, his expression furious. "No! I told you I didn’t kill anyone!"
Outside the interrogation room, Zoe Sawyer couldn’t help but frown. She had studied with Heath Hale and the others on how to tell if a person was lying, as well as how to read essential emotional cues.
’From what I can tell, Dean Lynch isn’t lying.’
’He didn’t kill him. So why did the real Mr. Lynch die? And why would Dean Lynch hide the cause of his brother’s death, even going so far as to dismember the body?’
’Did Mrs. Lynch do it?’
’No, that’s not right. She went abroad six months ago. Officer Lee checked, and after leaving the country, Mrs. Lynch and her daughter have no entry records. So it couldn’t have been her.’
’Could there have been a third person involved?’
’Or was it... suicide?’
But as soon as that thought emerged, Zoe Sawyer shook her head, dismissing her own idea.
’He had a successful career, a harmonious family, and a promising child.’
’Even his important technological breakthrough was on the verge of success. Once it was officially put into use, the money would definitely have come pouring in.’
Zoe Sawyer couldn’t understand why Mr. Lynch would commit suicide.
"You didn’t kill him? Then why didn’t you call the police? Why did you dismember the body and put it in Florinwell to destroy the evidence?" Evan Keller spoke again.
Dean Lynch’s expression twisted, his face a mask of conflict.
After several more minutes, Dean Lynch finally broke. "Right, my brother... he committed suicide. The home security footage... the footage at home can prove what I’m saying."
Once the first crack appeared, the rest of the words came out more easily.
As Dean Lynch recounted the entire story from beginning to end, Zoe Sawyer and the others learned the biggest secret the Lynch Family had been hiding.
When the Lynch brothers were very young, their father had a sudden episode, doused himself in oil, and burned himself to death in a cornfield.
Dean Lynch was still young at the time and had no memory of the event. All his impressions came from what his mother and older brother told him.
So he only remembered that the incident was horrific and had a severe impact on his family.
But the real Mr. Lynch was old enough to remember, and the scene of his father’s death remained vivid in his memory.
It became the greatest psychological trauma of his life.
In a field of burnt crops, a twisted, charred body was curled up in the very center.
The corpse’s hands had clawed deep scratches into the ground. The other villagers who came to help retrieve the body all said it was because he had regained consciousness midway through the burning and tried to crawl out of the fire, but failed.
In other words, the Lynch brothers’ father had watched himself burn to death.
After this incident, the real Mr. Lynch didn’t speak a word for an entire year. Their mother had to earn money to support the family and couldn’t attend to her children’s emotional needs.
Therefore, Dean Lynch became the real Mr. Lynch’s emotional anchor. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ
The two brothers had always been very close since they were children.
