Chapter 285: Chapter 285: For My Niece, I Am Willing to Die

This bond between them never changed, even after they grew up and Mr. Lynch married and had a child.

However, compared to Mr. Lynch’s genius for technology, Dean Lynch was completely ordinary.

After Mr. Lynch became successful, he wanted to have his younger brother and mother come live with him.

But Dean Lynch and Mrs. Lynch felt that living together would inevitably cause friction, and they didn’t want to disturb Mr. Lynch’s happy family life, so they refused his offer.

Left with no other choice, Mr. Lynch could only send them a fixed sum for living expenses each month to cover their basic needs.

After Mrs. Lynch passed away, Dean Lynch lived by himself in their old hometown, enjoying a relatively carefree life.

He didn’t have to worry about his income or supporting a family.

Everything was going well until six months ago, when Mr. Lynch suddenly noticed his memory beginning to decline.

This was followed by inexplicable fits of rage. On several occasions, he almost struck his wife.

Mr. Lynch was quickly reminded of his father’s condition before he set himself on fire.

His father had also started to forget things frequently. A man who had always been mild-tempered became unusually volatile, often taking his anger out on objects around the house.

He even injured Mr. Lynch and Mrs. Lynch on several occasions.

Mr. Lynch grew terrified. He was afraid of becoming like his father—unable to control himself, violent toward his own family.

However, his company was at a critical juncture. If news of his mental illness leaked, it could easily affect the company’s stock price.

Soon, Mr. Lynch made a decision.

He found a private hospital with a strong confidentiality policy and underwent an examination. The results were more or less what he had expected.

He was truly ill.

There was one silver lining, however: unlike his father, his condition could still be managed with medication.

After receiving the report, Mr. Lynch took it and told his wife everything.

He worried that his daughter and brother might have the same condition. After he and his wife discussed it, Mr. Lynch quickly found an excuse to summon Dean Lynch.

Once his brother arrived, Mr. Lynch had him go through the same process, taking him to the hospital for a full check-up. Fortunately, Dean Lynch’s results came back clear, which was a great relief to Mr. Lynch.

Mrs. Lynch, worried about her daughter, hastily packed her things and left soon after Dean Lynch arrived.

However, to prevent business rivals from suspecting anything was amiss, Mrs. Lynch claimed she was leaving for a vacation.

In reality, she had already selected a leading hospital abroad and taken her daughter there for a comprehensive examination.

The results came back quickly. She had the illness, but her condition was less severe than Mr. Lynch’s, and her chances of recovery were high.

While Mrs. Lynch was with their daughter for her treatment, Mr. Lynch’s condition grew progressively worse.

It reached a point where medication was no longer effective. After getting Mrs. Lynch’s consent, Dean Lynch dismissed all the household staff.

They were afraid Mr. Lynch would have an episode and harm them. This was also a way to keep his deteriorating condition a secret.

Seeing that his illness was truly uncontrollable, Mr. Lynch, while he was still lucid, quickly arranged for the distribution of his assets and the management of his company’s affairs.

At the same time, he began preparing for what would happen after his death.

Mr. Lynch lay in his bedroom with Dean Lynch sitting beside him. Across from them, Mrs. Lynch was on a video call.

Mr. Lynch gripped his younger brother’s hand. Though his voice was weak, his tone was unshakeably firm. "Dean, after I die, I want you to dismember my body and place the pieces in Florinwell.

Use the method I taught you, cover them with quicklime, and then impersonate me. Stay here until the new project is a complete success and has been launched. Only then can you retrieve my remains and bury them."

Listening to his brother’s plan, Dean Lynch shook his head in disbelief. "No, I can’t do that!

Brother, let’s just hold on a little longer. You can get better, I know it!"

"Listen to me! Too many people have their eyes on the company and my assets. If they learn that I’m dead, they’ll swarm in and carve it all up amongst themselves.

This patent is the money for your niece’s future treatment. I can’t give it up. Dean, please, just help your brother this one time!" Mr. Lynch gripped Dean Lynch’s arm, his expression resolute and his tone leaving no room for argument.

Dean Lynch looked pleadingly toward his sister-in-law. Mrs. Lynch’s eyes were red as she pressed a hand hard against her mouth, looking as if she might collapse at any moment.

Meeting Dean Lynch’s pleading gaze, Mrs. Lynch took a deep breath and said haltingly, "Dean, listen to your brother. We... we have to save one."

Her daughter’s illness wasn’t as severe as her husband’s, but the subsequent treatment would still require a significant amount of money.

Then there were her future living expenses and tuition. It all cost money.

After the video call ended, Mr. Lynch gripped Dean Lynch’s arm again. "I know this is unfair to you," he said, "but I have no one else to ask.

All of my assets and patents have been transferred to your niece’s name. I’ve also left a portion for you. Consider it my way of compensating you."

Even though he and his wife had a wonderful relationship, he couldn’t leave something like this to a test of human nature.

After settling all his affairs, Mr. Lynch closed his eyes, his face etched with reluctance to leave.

Dean Lynch held his brother’s body and wept inconsolably. After two days, he finally carried out all of his brother’s last wishes.

For her part, once Mrs. Lynch confirmed that Dean Lynch had completed all the necessary steps, she released a statement, as planned, announcing that Mr. Lynch was unwell and temporarily unable to work.

Zoe Sawyer and the others knew the rest of the story.

Originally, Dean Lynch had planned to turn himself in after the technology was launched and he had earned enough money for his niece’s expenses.

But just over a month had passed before someone set their sights on the technology. They not only showed up at his door but also exposed him as an imposter.

After he finished recounting the entire story, everyone inside and outside the interrogation room fell silent.

They had considered many possibilities, but never this one.

The officer beside Evan Keller looked at Dean Lynch with a complicated expression. "Even though it was your brother’s dying wish, your actions constitute the crime of desecrating a corpse. There may be extenuating circumstances, but that won’t lessen your sentence.

With a criminal record like this, aren’t you worried your future children will resent you?"

Dean Lynch looked stunned for a moment before shaking his head. "I will never have children. My niece is the only child of her generation in the Lynch Family.

So, for her sake, I would be willing to die right now."

A faint smile touched Dean Lynch’s lips as he thought of his niece.

"Why?"
