Chapter 283: Chapter 283: I Want to Report

Evan Keller held the man in the baseball cap down with one hand while using the other to frisk him and pull out the knives he had hidden on his person.

The man in the baseball cap looked astonished. ’Why are there cops here?’

’Don’t tell me Mr. Lynch called the police?’

’No, that’s impossible. He’s just as afraid of the secret in the greenhouse getting out. He would never dare to call the cops.’

’Then why? How did these cops get here so fast?!’

The man in the baseball cap couldn’t figure it out, and his continued struggles were quickly subdued by Heath Hale.

After searching the man from head to toe and confirming nothing was missed, Evan Keller and Heath Hale hauled him up from the ground. Then, they called their colleagues who had been waiting outside to come and take the man away.

"You had people waiting outside this whole time?" the man in the baseball cap asked, his voice laced with surprise. When Evan Keller and Heath Hale nodded in confirmation, he couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

This time, however, he was laughing at himself.

’So I walked right into a trap!’

"How did you know I was coming?" The man in the baseball cap refused to give up, staring intently at Evan Keller.

Evan Keller shrugged, his tone calm. "That’s a police secret. You don’t need to know."

The man in the baseball cap looked at Evan Keller and Heath Hale restraining him, then saw a team of officers jogging over from the living room.

Opposite them was Mr. Lynch, leading the way with an unsteady gait.

’Thinking back, Mr. Lynch told me to come to the backyard... The cops must have already been with him. They wanted me to deliver myself right to their doorstep!’

’In that case, he can’t blame me for spilling the beans!’

"I want to report a crime."

Suddenly, the man in the baseball cap spoke up. In front of all the officers present, and under Mr. Lynch’s horrified gaze, he said, "I’m reporting him. This Mr. Lynch in front of you is an imposter."

"The real owner of this house is already dead. He was dismembered and thrown into that Florinwell over there."

"If you don’t believe me, you can go take a look right now. You’ll definitely find what I’m talking about in there."

"You’re talking nonsense! This is blatant slander!" Mr. Lynch’s voice became unusually shrill. He looked like he wanted to rush over and clamp a hand over the man’s mouth to stop him from talking.

But before he could move, Barry Quinn and Monkey, who were behind him, restrained him from either side.

A flash of excitement crossed the faces of Zoe Sawyer and the others. They had been struggling to find a reason to enter the greenhouse. Now, they didn’t have to think anymore!

This guy had just given them the perfect reason.

"Mr. Lynch, do you have anything to say?" Evan Keller asked after handing the man in the baseball cap over to the colleagues he had called over.

Mr. Lynch frantically waved his hands and shook his head. "No, there’s nothing! He’s just making things up."

"He just got caught and is bitter about it. He’s trying to frame me so you’ll arrest me too."

"And how do you know this?" Heath Hale turned his gaze to the man in the baseball cap. They only knew because of Zoe Sawyer’s ability. ’So how did this guy and his crew find out?’

Perhaps wanting to drag Mr. Lynch down with him, the man in the baseball cap explained everything from beginning to end.

Before they made their move, they had to conduct an investigation to figure out their target’s recent movements.

And because their boss had given them a direct order, the man in the baseball cap didn’t dare to slack off.

After having his men investigate Mr. Lynch’s recent daily routine, the man in the baseball cap noticed something was off.

He had his subordinates keep digging further into the past.

In the end, he pieced together what they’d found: the fact that Mrs. Lynch and her daughter didn’t return for the holidays, that Mr. Lynch hadn’t left the house in over a month under the excuse of being sick, and that he had fired all the household staff.

The man in the baseball cap found it all very strange. He went through the information again from top to bottom and discovered that for the past month, Mr. Lynch had spent every day in the glass greenhouse, forbidding anyone from entering or leaving.

He handled everything that went on in there personally.

That meant there was definitely something very important to him inside. Combining this with Mr. Lynch’s previous public statements, the man in the baseball cap finally reached his conclusion.

And it had to be said, he had actually guessed right.

There really was something fishy going on in the glass greenhouse!

After listening to the whole story, Evan Keller took the opportunity to say, "Mr. Lynch, we need to go inside the greenhouse to investigate."

Mr. Lynch wanted to refuse, but when he opened his mouth, no words came out.

’What could he possibly explain?’

’Explain why he’d hidden at home for over a month when he wasn’t sick? Or explain why he’d fired servants who had worked for the Lynch family for over a decade and had never made a mistake?’

Mr. Lynch couldn’t explain either of them.

When he saw Zoe Sawyer and her team push open the door to the glass greenhouse and walk inside, Mr. Lynch’s legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground, his body going limp.

The two officers beside him had to struggle to half-carry him back to his feet.

Seeing his state, the man in the baseball cap laughed even more wildly.

Meanwhile, Zoe Sawyer and her team were in a completely different state.

After opening the greenhouse door, the team moved with a clear purpose, running straight toward the Florinwell at the far end.

Soon, they were standing in front of the Florinwell.

The Florinwell was at least two meters long, one meter high, and one meter wide.

It could easily accommodate a grown man.

The surface of the Florinwell was currently covered with withered leaves, cut flowers, some kitchen scraps, and pieces of chicken, duck, fish, and other meat.

On top of it all, they could see a thick layer of quicklime powder.

Sean Hughes handed the gloves and masks he carried with him to Evan Keller and Heath Hale, instructing them, "There are sticks and shovels over there. Be careful when you start digging; don’t let anything splash on you."

Evan Keller and Heath Hale deftly put on their masks and gloves, then grabbed some sticks and cautiously began to poke around in the Florinwell.

Although the Florinwell wasn’t very high, it was long. It wouldn’t be an easy task for just the three of them to search the entire pit from end to end.

Zoe Sawyer frowned, trying to recall the exact spot where Mr. Lynch had thrown the body in.

Soon, Zoe Sawyer pinpointed a section on the lower-left side of the Florinwell. She pointed to the area and told Heath Hale to search there.

The three men had great faith in Zoe Sawyer’s judgment. The moment she finished speaking, they picked up their sticks and walked over.

Now that they had a specific area to focus on, it took less than ten minutes before the stick in Evan Keller’s hands met with resistance.

Unlike the smooth probing from before, the stick now felt like it was poking something soft, and this unidentified object was not small.

"Over here! Quick!"

Evan Keller called out to Heath Hale and Sean Hughes, motioning for them to hurry over.

The three of them then worked together, using their sticks to finally pry the unidentified object up from the bottom of the Florinwell.

A human arm emerged, covered in kitchen scraps.

"We found it! Tell them to bring people over, now! We need to get the body out of here!"
