Chapter 282: Chapter 282: The Arrest

Everyone’s gaze immediately shifted to Evan Keller.

"I think Mr. Lynch’s wife definitely knows something. Also, this house is too quiet.

When we drove to the back gate, we saw plenty of servants active in the other houses we passed. We haven’t seen a single one here. It’s too quiet.

It’s as if someone deliberately sent the staff away. Or is it that this house doesn’t have any staff to begin with?" Evan Keller shared his observations.

Now that he mentioned it, the others realized something was off, too.

A villa this large would definitely require people to clean it.

Regular maintenance couldn’t be neglected, either. They couldn’t just hire people on a daily basis.

Mr. Lynch was a very suspicious businessman. He would surely choose long-term employees over daily temp hires.

So, the lack of people in this house was strange.

"There’s another problem," Heath Hale added. "According to the vision Zoe Sawyer saw, the man in the baseball cap walked to the glass greenhouse on his own. Who opened the gate for him?

Climbing the wall is unlikely; there are cameras all around, which would be too conspicuous. Or was it Mr. Lynch who opened the gate and let him in?"

The more they thought about it, the more holes they found in the story.

"I’ve contacted our colleagues here and asked them to check Mrs. Lynch’s call history for the recent period.

If she really is in on it, her communication records will surely show some cracks." Sean Hughes waved his phone, letting Evan Keller and the others know what he’d done.

"Rest in shifts. Keep an eye on any movement in the backyard at all times." Evan Keller quickly made the arrangements.

Even though their target hadn’t arrived yet, they had to remain vigilant.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lynch, in his room upstairs, was not nearly as calm.

’What do I do, what do I do? Why are the police here?’ Mr. Lynch paced anxiously around the room, unable to stop himself from pulling at his hair.

’Have I really failed to escape their notice even though I haven’t left the house? There isn’t enough time for the... thing. It’ll be a disaster if they find any holes in my story.’

The very next second, Mr. Lynch pulled out his phone. The call had just started ringing when he seemed to snap out of it and quickly hung up.

’Can’t call, can’t call. They’ll definitely find out.’ Mr. Lynch muttered, tossing his phone onto the bed, his expression growing even more agitated.

Soon, Mr. Lynch figured out why the police had come this time.

’It’s that mysterious man who called about the patent!’

Recalling what Evan Keller had said about the reason for their visit, a flash of resentment crossed Mr. Lynch’s eyes.

’It’s all his fault!’

’I’ll definitely cooperate with the police to get him arrested. Otherwise, this whole ordeal will have been for nothing!’

’But I absolutely cannot let these cops into the glass greenhouse!’

Just as he had this thought, Mr. Lynch’s phone rang again. He looked closely—it was a call from the man in the baseball cap!

The police monitoring the area from outside also picked up the signal.

"Quick! Send Captain Keller’s team a message!" one officer exclaimed, urging his colleague to immediately report the situation to Evan Keller and the others inside.

Evan Keller had just finished reading the text message and hadn’t had a chance to speak when a panting Mr. Lynch appeared at the door of the utility room.

"Officers, he’s calling again!" Mr. Lynch braced one hand on his knee and held out his phone toward Evan Keller and the others with his other hand.

’I need to resolve this quickly and then see them out!’

Every extra second these police officers stayed here was torture. He was terrified his secret would be discovered.

Evan Keller and Heath Hale exchanged a look, then stood on either side of Mr. Lynch, helping him up. "Mr. Lynch, please answer the call and put it on speaker. We need to hear what he has to say."

Eager to get them to leave as soon as possible, Mr. Lynch naturally cooperated.

Soon, the call connected.

"What took you so long? Mr. Lynch, have you given any thought to what I said last time?" The voice of the man in the baseball cap came from the other end. He first complained about the slow answer before getting straight to the point.

Under the gazes of the police officers in the utility room, Mr. Lynch calmed himself and replied in a gentle but distant tone, "My answer is the same. I have a use for this patent. I won’t sell it."

The man in the baseball cap sighed, his voice tinged with frustration. "You’re really stubborn, Mr. Lynch. Dragging this out is just a waste of both our time."

Immediately after, the sound of a lock being picked came through the phone.

"Since you’re unwilling, Mr. Lynch, I’ll just let myself in." The man’s voice was calm, as if he were talking about an everyday occurrence.

A flash of astonishment crossed the eyes of Zoe Sawyer and the others. ’He’s picking the lock to get in?’

Evan Keller’s phone vibrated. He picked it up and saw it was an alert from the colleagues lying in wait outside.

They had seen a man open the main gate to the Lynch family’s front yard and walk in. The message was to tell Evan Keller and his team to get ready.

There was also a photo attached. Zoe Sawyer leaned in for a look—it was the same man she had seen through the door. No doubt about it!

"You’re trespassing! Believe it or not, I’m calling the police right now!" Mr. Lynch’s tone became exceptionally furious.

"You won’t dare. If you call the police, I don’t mind telling them the secret in your greenhouse." The man’s voice was full of certainty, as if he were absolutely sure Mr. Lynch wouldn’t dare to call the police.

After saying this, as if the threat wasn’t enough, he added, "As long as you hand over the patent to us, I can completely solve your problem for you, without even needing our boss to step in."

Hearing the word "greenhouse," Mr. Lynch’s pupils constricted. He fought the urge to turn and look at the police officers beside him.

He was about to say something when a phone was held out in front of him.

The phone belonged to Heath Hale, and there were only a few words on the screen.

"Agree. Tell him to come to the backyard."

Mr. Lynch opened his mouth, but in the end, he said, "Alright, come to the backyard. I’m at the entrance to the greenhouse."

The man in the baseball cap seemed to have expected this answer. He scoffed, said "Be right there," and hung up.

Evan Keller and Heath Hale let go of Mr. Lynch. Bending low like swift cheetahs, they shot out and took up positions on either side of the living room door that led to the backyard.

The moment the man in the baseball cap came through, they could subdue him in an instant.

Barry Quinn and Monkey took over from Evan and Heath, restraining Mr. Lynch.

Less than a minute later, footsteps approached, growing louder.

The expressions on Evan Keller’s and Heath Hale’s faces grew more serious, their eyes locked on the doorway.

A man in a black tracksuit and a baseball cap pushed the door open. The instant he stepped out, two figures lunged at him from the left and right, pinning him firmly to the ground.

"Don’t move! Police!"
