Chapter 238: Chapter 238: Let’s Go Blow Up Your Colleagues~

"Where’s the guy you were in contact with? Give me the phone." Keith Garrison held out his hand to Shane Lynch.

Although he was seething, Shane Lynch knew he was no longer in control of the situation and could only hand his phone to Keith Garrison.

"Why did the Boss Lady give you this assignment?" Keith Garrison asked as he took the phone.

Shane Lynch shook his head. "Don’t know. She gave it to me, so I came. It’s a simple job, anyway. A real piece of cake."

Keith Garrison already had a suspicion, and after calling the skinny man and exchanging a few words, it was confirmed.

"How many of your guys didn’t come with you?" Keith Garrison asked, ignoring the skinny man’s attempts to suck up and cutting straight to the chase.

"...I’ve got one other guy with a few of our boys stationed further out. If things go south, they’ll create a diversion to buy us some time." The skinny man hesitated for a moment before laying out his entire plan.

Listening from the side, Shane Lynch felt his anger flare. ’So they don’t trust me?!’

"Not bad," Keith Garrison said, shooting Shane Lynch a contemptuous look. "The cops are probably onto you. Find a chance to pull out, then link up with your crew outside. Cooperate with me when the time comes."

’What a brainless meathead. Even his own men know to have a backup plan, but all he knows is how to charge straight ahead.’

’He’s just been lucky he hasn’t been caught before.’

The skinny man readily agreed. Then, as if a thought occurred to him, he asked hesitantly, "Are you sure it’s okay for us to pull out? What if those cops come straight for you guys?"

’There are only four of them. Even if they’re fully equipped, they can’t possibly hold off that many people, can they?’

Keith Garrison shot a meaningful glance at Ray Reid, who was standing a short distance away, and let out a smug laugh. "Of course I have a secret weapon..."

With that, Keith Garrison hung up.

There was no need to say anything more.

After hearing they’d been made, the skinny man quickly led his men away in the other direction.

At the same time, he remembered to call Baldy and tell their group to find a safe place to wait for him to meet up.

Meanwhile, a drone was circling above their heads.

The surrounding area was already cordoned off by teams from various precincts. The killer was exceptionally brutal and had accomplices, so to be safe, deploying more officers was the logical choice.

Back at the station, Zoe Sawyer had just gripped the doorknob when several lines of text materialized on the door.

"In thirty minutes, Ray Reid will be killed in an explosion, dying in the line of duty. The blast radius will be large, resulting in multiple police officers dying from critical injuries, with three killed instantly."

Zoe Sawyer gasped as she read the words.

’These criminals have a bomb?’

’Where is it? In that briefcase?’

’And who is Ray Reid?’

’The words were "dying in the line of duty," so he has to be one of us. Is there a bomb planted where he is right now?’

’To cause that many casualties, this can’t be a simple bomb!’

Zoe Sawyer knew she couldn’t delay and quickly told Evan Keller and the others what was happening.

"Ray Reid, you say? I’ll contact the chief right now and have him find out which precinct this person is from." Evan Keller immediately grabbed his phone and called the chief.

After hearing Evan Keller’s report, the chief immediately contacted the various precincts that had dispatched teams to ask which one Ray Reid belonged to.

But they all came back negative.

"None of them? Then could it be... that Ray Reid is one of those four?" Zoe Sawyer pointed to the computer screen.

On the screen, the four men were standing face-to-face, but Zoe Sawyer and the others were sharp enough to notice that one of them was standing in a strange way.

"His muscles are completely tense, and his eyes are full of wariness as he looks at the other three. And look here.

The way his hands are hanging is unnatural. They must be broken—he can’t use them at all. If they were here as backup, it makes no sense to bring along a liability who can’t fight.

The collar around his neck is strange, too. It’s even attached to an iron chain," Heath Hale added, pointing to Ray Reid on the screen as he laid out his analysis.

They had noticed these things earlier, but at the time, they’d just assumed the man must be an important hostage. Otherwise, why bring him out in that condition? They hadn’t considered the possibility of him being an undercover agent at all.

Now, with the door’s warning, all those strange and illogical details finally had an explanation.

’Because they knew Ray Reid was an undercover agent, they broke his hands to neutralize him, then put a collar on him to control his every move.’

’If they weren’t mistaken, the bomb had to be inside that collar.’

"What do we do now?" Zoe Sawyer asked, her eyes flashing with anxiety as she looked at Ray Reid on the computer screen.

With the warning, they could save the people nearby, but they had no way to help Ray Reid himself, who was trapped by the collar.

Zoe Sawyer couldn’t just stand by and watch him be blown to bits.

"What do we do, what do we do?" Zoe Sawyer muttered, anxiously wringing her hands. Then, as if an idea struck her, she rushed back to the door.

Unsure of the bomb’s blast radius, Evan Keller and Heath Hale were discussing having the surrounding officers pull back.

Then they would try to figure out a way to defuse the bomb.

But with time running out, both Evan Keller and Heath Hale were already bracing themselves for the worst.

Just then, they saw Zoe Sawyer walk up to the door.

A look of hopeful surprise crossed Evan Keller’s face. He was about to speak but was stopped by Heath Hale. "Wait," Heath said. "Time is too tight. Let’s see if Zoe can get a solution from the door. In the meantime, we need to get ready on our end."

’We can’t rely on her for everything.’

Evan Keller understood Heath Hale’s point and nodded.

While they rushed off to warn their colleagues to take cover, Zoe Sawyer gripped the doorknob and began to silently repeat Ray Reid’s name and the words ’collar bomb’ in her mind.

This was the first time Zoe Sawyer had tried to focus on a specific past event rather than a crime scene in general. She didn’t know if it would work.

Three minutes passed quickly. Just as Zoe Sawyer was starting to think it had failed, she felt that familiar sensation. A look of delight crossed her face as she yanked the door open.

Sure enough, the scene on the other side had changed.

Keith Garrison, dressed in a sharp suit and carrying a collar in his hand, walked unhurriedly over to a corner of the room.

In the corner, an iron chain was tethered to an anchor bolt in the floor. The person chained up was none other than Ray Reid, the man from the screen.

Only now, he was wearing a tattered, blood-soaked white shirt.

His arms still hung limply at his sides, but through the thin fabric of his shirt, Zoe Sawyer could clearly see the jutting bone of his dislocated shoulder!

"You could say you’ve caught us at the perfect time. Let’s go blow up your colleagues, my dear assistant... Ray Reid."
