My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 239: No Need to Save the Worthless
Chapter 239: Chapter 239: No Need to Save the Worthless
Keith Garrison’s voice was filled with impatience. Without another word, he snapped the bomb collar onto Ray Reid’s neck.
Then he gave the chain a hard tug.
A look of smug satisfaction filled his eyes as he watched Ray Reid lurch forward, unable to control his own body.
’So satisfying. Just so damn satisfying.’
Ray Reid’s eyes were fixed on the collar, and he wished for nothing more than to tear it off. But his hands were useless, and he could only watch helplessly as the device was fastened around his neck.
Keith Garrison squatted in front of Ray Reid and patted his cheek. His voice was laced with amusement. "I don’t mind telling you the password. It’s simple, really. It’s the emergency number.
"Too bad you don’t seem to be in any position to unlock it, hmm?"
The collar’s keypad was on the back of his neck. Even if Ray Reid’s hands were fully functional, he wouldn’t have been able to unlock it—let alone in his current state.
Keith Garrison was using the emergency number as a password to restrain an undercover police officer.
The sheer absurdity of it made Zoe Sawyer rub her face in disbelief.
When the vision ended, Zoe Sawyer closed the door and found Evan Keller and the others gathered around her. Their expectant faces showed they were hoping for good news.
Zoe Sawyer told Evan Keller and the others everything she had seen, including the password.
Upon hearing the password was 911, Evan Keller slammed his fist into the wall in a rage.
Sean Hughes and the others looked grim, but everyone in the room knew the top priority was to find an opportunity to remove the device from Ray Reid’s neck and get him out.
"I’ll take a team and create a diversion to draw the attention of those three," Evan Keller said after a moment’s thought. "Zoe Sawyer, you find the right moment and unlock the collar on Ray Reid’s neck."
Knowing full well an explosion was possible, he couldn’t bring himself to order anyone else to act as a decoy.
As he finished speaking, Evan Keller looked behind him at the group of officers. Before he could even ask for volunteers, hands shot up all around, everyone eager to be chosen.
’How could we miss out on the main event!’
With no time to waste, Evan Keller quickly picked his team.
Meanwhile, as soon as Zoe Sawyer had the password, Heath Hale called the chief to brief him on their plan.
After listening, the chief contemplated for a moment before approving the plan. However, he made sure to remind them to prioritize their own safety.
The officer named Ray Reid was important.
But to the chief, his officers were just as important, and Evan Keller’s team was much larger!
"I’ll send another team to round up that other group," the chief said, his voice firm. "Heath Hale, I’ll say it again: your safety comes first. I don’t want to hear a single report of one of my officers getting hurt."
Heath Hale readily agreed, then hung up.
Once Evan Keller and his team were fully geared up, Heath Hale handed him an earpiece to make communication easier.
This would allow the observation team to give Evan Keller real-time updates on the suspects’ status, helping him to react accordingly.
Once everything was in place, Zoe Sawyer used her knowledge of the three criminals’ location to guide Evan Keller’s team to a position where they could see Shane Lynch without being easily spotted.
After they had all gone through, Zoe Sawyer gripped the doorknob, a hesitant look on her face. Finally, she gave Evan Keller’s team a small wave and a gesture of encouragement before closing the door.
"Don’t worry," Heath Hale said, noticing her concern. He gave her shoulder a reassuring pat. "They’re far enough away. Even if the bomb goes off, they won’t get hurt."
"I know, I just can’t help but worry." Zoe Sawyer scratched her cheek, slightly embarrassed, before turning her focus back to Ray Reid.
’Just get that device off Ray Reid’s neck and bring him back,’ she thought. ’If we can do that, the mission will be mostly a success!’
’As for Shane Lynch and the other two, they probably wouldn’t detonate the bomb if they didn’t have a hostage.’
’After all, they’d be caught in the blast, too.’
Meanwhile, the team waiting outside the perimeter for their next orders received a command from the chief to turn back and apprehend a different group. Though they found the order strange, they complied, heading for the rendezvous point of the skinny man and his crew.
Shane Lynch, meanwhile, was hiding to the side, observing the area below with binoculars. He didn’t see a single person approaching; in fact, he could faintly make out the police pulling back.
"What the hell? Weren’t those cops supposed to be rushing over here? How come I haven’t seen a single one? It looks like they’re actually retreating."
Keith Garrison stood in the corner with his arms crossed, his expression grim.
’Could they know what I’m planning to do? Are they holding back because they don’t want to risk casualties?’
’No, that’s not right. I brought my men here right after I got the call from the boss.’
’I didn’t communicate with anyone else during the entire process. Tom Thompson and Ray Reid don’t have phones, so there’s no way they could have tipped anyone off.’
’Shane Lynch?’
’No, impossible. That idiot wouldn’t have the guts.’
’Then why did they leave?’
Keith Garrison couldn’t figure it out. And just then, Shane Lynch’s phone rang.
He picked it up and saw it was a call from the skinny man.
The moment the call connected, he heard the sound of frantic footsteps and heavy, desperate panting from the other end.
Realizing the call had connected, the skinny man blurted out, "Blaze! Blaze, save me!
"The cops suddenly found me! They brought a huge team and surrounded us! They’ve got guns!
"Most of my guys have already been taken down! Blaze, you’re a big shot, you must have a way to save us, right?"
The skinny man relayed his situation to Shane Lynch and the others as he ran, his voice tinged with a desperate sliver of hope.
He hoped that Shane Lynch and Keith Garrison would, for the sake of them all working for the same boss, lend a hand and save his worthless hide.
But things didn’t go as he’d hoped. After hearing the skinny man out, before Shane Lynch could even speak, Keith Garrison reached over, snatched the phone, and immediately hung up.
"Useless trash. Not worth saving," Keith Garrison said, his voice cold as ice.
Actually trying to save him would only put the three of them in danger.
An insignificant pawn wasn’t worth the risk.
Shane Lynch shrugged but said nothing.
He hadn’t planned on saving the man anyway.
As for the skinny man, when the call was disconnected, his last shred of hope shattered.
In the few seconds he was frozen in shock, the police closed in from behind, tackling and pinning him to the ground in an instant.
"Got ’im!"
