Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Idiot! How Could You Jump Into Such an Obvious Trap?

"Very good. Go. I’ll send people to support you." Big Sis promptly hung up.

Shane Lynch gripped his phone, his eyes fixed on the corner he’d just been in. His expression was grim.

But he knew the police were on their way. If he didn’t move now, he’d be trapped. He had no choice but to hurry out of the building.

"What’s our next move?"

Once Shane Lynch was gone, Zoe Sawyer shut the door completely and looked at Evan Keller and Heath Hale.

"We lie in wait," Evan Keller said, thinking aloud as he relayed his thoughts to the team back at the office. "They’re exposed, and we’re in the shadows. This is the perfect time to catch them all in one go."

From the two calls the killer just made, it was clear that besides the initial ambush team, Big Sis still had other people in the area.

If we can capture them, it’ll be a massive blow to both Shane Lynch and the organization behind him.

Sean Hughes and Heath Hale nodded in agreement with Evan Keller’s plan.

At the same time, however, they needed to brief the chief. They would definitely need his cooperation for what was to come.

"We can wait a bit. Let the killer rendezvous with his accomplices, then we’ll pinpoint their location again." Heath Hale walked over to a whiteboard that had a map of the area taped to it and quickly drew a rough perimeter.

With the police closing in, if the killer wants to quickly meet his accomplices, get weapons, and launch a counter-attack, he won’t choose a large area.

There’s no need to have Zoe Sawyer tailing him constantly; that would be too draining for her.

We can wait until the killer’s people have regrouped, then ’open the door’ again. That way, we can confirm their numbers and equipment, and adjust our own strategy accordingly.

"Good idea. In that case, we’ll need to make a few adjustments on our end." After hearing Heath Hale’s proposal, Evan Keller gave it a moment’s thought. The plan’s chances of success were high, so he agreed without hesitation and added his own thoughts.

While Evan Keller was refining his plan, on the other side of the city, three men carrying briefcases skillfully navigated around various obstacles, making their way to the abandoned building where Shane Lynch was now hiding.

"Why does he always pick these deserted buildings? If he picked a crowded place, it would be easier to cover his tracks, and he could use people as human shields if necessary.

That brute, Shane Lynch, only has murder on his mind and never considers his surroundings. Tom Thompson, you’ll handle him in a bit." The man in the middle detoured around a puddle with a look of disgust. If it weren’t for Big Sis’s orders, he wouldn’t be caught dead here.

The Tom Thompson he’d just addressed was the man to his left. Dressed all in black, he was slender, with a hood pulled over his head, and he followed with his gaze lowered.

He had a faint presence, but his every step was precise. If anyone were to rush them, Tom Thompson could instantly shield the man beside him from harm.

To the speaker’s right was another man.

Compared to the other two, however, this man was in a wretched state. His clothes were disheveled, he walked with a limp, and his hands hung limply at his sides. A large scar ran from the corner of his eye to the corner of his mouth, destroying what might have once been gentle features. He was also fitted with a bite guard.

But the most striking feature was the large collar around his neck. A thin chain was attached to it, the other end held firmly in the hand of the man in the middle.

After casually giving his order to Tom Thompson, the man turned to his right, his tone dripping with smug satisfaction. "Ray Reid, do you regret not running when you had the chance? How about I reunite you with your colleagues today?

No one knows the password for this thing around your neck except me. The explosive yield is enough to blow this entire floor to kingdom come."

Ray Reid didn’t answer him. His eyes remained fixed on the path ahead, but his mind was racing, trying to figure out a plan.

Ever since the police raided that factory in Varden, this man had received the news immediately and fled the city before they could find him.

He had just managed to become the man’s assistant back then. With no further instructions from his superiors, he had to play it by ear, destroying the crucial intelligence he’d gathered before following the man out of the city.

He just never expected that the man had already discovered he was a mole. The man had intended to play with him for a while, but one day, after a call from Big Sis, his demeanor flipped completely.

What followed was all manner of torture as the man tried to pry intelligence from his lips.

If he hadn’t been so resilient and kept his mouth shut, he would have broken under the torture long ago.

The man had brought him along this time for two reasons: one, he’d lost the patience to continue his games, and two, more importantly, he intended to use Ray as a bargaining chip against the police who would soon be surrounding the area.

Thinking about their objective, a ruthless glint flashed in Ray Reid’s eyes. ’The worst-case scenario,’ he thought, ’is that I take these devils down with me.’

Soon, the trio arrived at Shane Lynch’s new hiding spot.

When Shane Lynch saw who Big Sis had sent to help, his already grim expression darkened until it was black as thunder. "Keith Garrison, why is it you?"

Keith Garrison shrugged, ignoring the question. Instead, he asked Shane Lynch about his source.

Shane Lynch fell silent for a moment before finally telling him about his source.

After listening, Keith Garrison’s face contorted. He pointed a finger at Shane Lynch, his voice dripping with ridicule. "You idiot! How could you jump straight into such an obvious trap?"

There’s no such thing as that many coincidences!

It was obviously a setup! The cops must have found the mole and used him to lay a trap!

He remembered hearing from Big Sis’s assistant that this ’pawn’ was one they had planted in the police department years ago and had only recently activated.

’And this is the result?’

’He gets discovered this easily, gets turned into bait for a trap, and almost gets this useless oaf Shane Lynch killed in the process.’

A sense of absurdity washed over Keith Garrison.

Shane Lynch kicked the wall impatiently, his tone turning foul. "If you’re scared, then drop the stuff and get the hell out!"

Keith Garrison acted as if he hadn’t heard a word, simply tilting his chin toward Tom Thompson.

’Since the cops set this up, we need to be careful they haven’t planted anything here.’

Tom Thompson set down the briefcase and swept the area. After confirming there was nothing out of place, he returned to Keith Garrison’s side and shook his head.

The moment Tom Thompson finished his check, a tiny gap appeared in the doorway behind them, and a miniature surveillance device was placed silently on the floor.

At that same moment, Officer Lee heard exactly what they needed to hear.
