Chapter 210: Chapter 210: In the Nick of Time

As Evan Keller’s voice faded, everyone tensed up, their bodies instinctively getting ready.

Meanwhile, Zoe Sawyer stood in the doorway of a shop across the street, her expression tense and her hands clenched into fists.

She had wanted to stay on the sidewalk, but Heath Hale and Evan Keller had refused, citing safety concerns.

The matter of the family of three was important, but so was Zoe Sawyer’s safety.

Therefore, they would do everything in their power to prevent the incident, and Zoe had to stay somewhere safe.

The wife in the young couple looked at the people around them and the faint, unsettling stares, nervously inching closer to her husband. "Don’t these people seem a little strange?"

Hearing his wife’s words, the man instinctively reached out and put an arm around her shoulder. With his other hand, he pulled their child a little closer to his chest.

He shielded the child completely with his body while also tending to his wife’s anxiety. The man’s expression was no longer relaxed; a hint of vigilance had crept in. "Don’t worry. There are plenty of other people around. Even if they were bad guys, they wouldn’t dare try anything."

Although the young couple kept their voices low, a new team member they had just passed overheard them.

He felt a bit helpless, wanting to explain that they weren’t bad people.

But he also had to remain vigilant for the car that could appear at any moment, so he suppressed the urge to explain and kept watch.

The young couple subconsciously quickened their pace, wanting to get off this stretch of road as soon as possible.

It was at that exact moment that a red sedan suddenly came rushing toward them.

The car’s headlights shone on the young couple’s faces, the intense glare forcing them to squint.

The wife was the first to realize something was wrong and pushed her husband forward.

But the car was moving too fast. In an instant, it was right on top of them.

"Watch out!"

Evan Keller shouted as he reached out, grabbing the man and yanking him in his direction.

The team member next to him reacted just as quickly, grabbing the wife’s hand and pulling her away at top speed.

In the nick of time, the two of them narrowly dodged the sedan.

The team member pulled the woman in front of him, taking the impact from the car’s side mirror with his back.

The red sedan crashed straight into a tree on the opposite side of the street, the massive CRUNCH drawing the attention of everyone nearby.

The perpetrator peeked his head out. After seeing he hadn’t hit anyone, he started the vehicle, intending to reverse and flee the scene.

"Where do you think you’re going?" After the car hit the tree, Barry Quinn said a word to Monkey beside him, telling him to keep an eye on Zoe Sawyer’s safety.

He then sprinted over, reached through the car window, and grabbed the perpetrator’s arm, stopping his attempt to drive away.

"Let me go!" The perpetrator struggled violently, trying to pull his arm free from Barry Quinn’s iron grip.

Barry Quinn’s expression was grim as he stared at the impatient-looking man. "Don’t you realize you almost hit someone? And you still think you can just leave?"

"Pah! I didn’t hit them, did I? They’re lucky I didn’t kill them. Now let me go, I’m going home." The perpetrator’s expression was full of contempt. At the same time, his free hand was fumbling for something on the passenger seat.

The next second, a silver light flashed.

It was immediately followed by a crisp CLANG.

A sharp utility knife fell to the ground. Barry Quinn had grabbed the perpetrator’s other wrist and, with a slight squeeze, made the man curl up in pain.

"Ah! Let go of me! I’ll call the cops and have you all arrested!" the perpetrator continued to clamor.

The surrounding passersby had gradually started to gather around.

"You don’t have to. I already called the police. You can just wait to be arrested!" A young woman clutched her phone. She had witnessed the entire event and had seen everything the perpetrator did.

She had called the police right away to report the situation.

After hearing the perpetrator’s shouting, she couldn’t help but step forward and retort.

Upon hearing that someone had actually called the police, the perpetrator’s face turned pale.

He knew perfectly well he was in the wrong. His threat to call the police had just been a bluff to get the big guy in front of him to let go.

Meanwhile, the moment Evan Keller had pulled the husband aside, the man had completely shielded the child in his arms.

After falling, he quickly got back up and checked to see if the child in his arms was hurt.

Once he confirmed the child was safe, he quickly turned back to look at his wife.

"Thank God, you’re okay. I almost... I almost thought..." The man hugged his wife and child, his voice choked with emotion and his eyes red.

For a split second back there, he truly thought his family’s lives were over.

The woman hugged her husband back, reaching out to pat his back.

She was just as terrified in retrospect. She had genuinely thought their lives were about to come to an end.

The child in their arms sensed their parents’ lingering fear and babbled, reaching out with tiny hands to pat their faces, as if comforting them in its own way.

The young couple channeled their terrified relief into a flurry of kisses on their child’s cheeks.

Ignoring the scrapes on his own body, Evan Keller hurried over to the team member who had been hit by the side mirror. "How are you?" he asked with concern. "Let me see the wound on your back."

The team member supported his lower back and slowly stood up straight. He reached back to press on the spot, but as soon as his hand made contact, he sucked in a sharp breath. "Hiss."

"Don’t move! Let me see!" Evan Keller pulled his hand away and carefully lifted the back of the team member’s shirt.

A dark, purplish-black bruise was revealed.

"Get it checked out at the infirmary when we get back. That car was moving fast; I’m worried it might have caused some internal damage." Evan Keller examined him carefully and was relieved to find no other injuries besides the bruise.

The others also split into two groups.

One group went to help Barry Quinn control the perpetrator and secure the scene.

The other group gathered around Evan Keller, looking to see if he needed any help.

After hugging and crying for a while, the young couple finally calmed down.

The man carefully shielded his wife, who was holding their child, as they walked over to Evan Keller and the others.

"Thank you. Thank you for saving our family of three. If it weren’t for you, we’d probably be lying on the ground right now." The man glanced at the car crashed into the tree and couldn’t help but shudder.

Then he noticed the team member constantly rubbing his back. His tone filled with gratitude and apology. "Is your injury okay? You should go to the hospital for a check-up. I’ll take full responsibility for your medical expenses."

After speaking, he also looked at Evan Keller, who had just saved him, and added, "Of course, your injuries need to be checked at the hospital too. I’ll take care of everything!"

Evan Keller shook his head, declining their kind offer, and brought up another matter instead.

"That’s not important right now. Come with me for a moment. I need you to see if you recognize the perpetrator."
