Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Find the Owner of the Clothes

The young couple, who had just narrowly escaped death, followed Evan Keller to the red car.

After getting a clear look at the perpetrator’s face, the man turned to Evan Keller in confusion. "I don’t know him. I’ve never seen this person before."

"Have you two offended anyone recently? Or, have any of your family or friends offended anyone recently?

Or do you have any debts?" Evan Keller thought for a moment before asking a different line of questions.

The man thought carefully, then shook his head with certainty. "No. My wife and I are both only children. While our families aren’t rich, we’re comfortably well-off. Our parents all have stable retirement pensions, and we have no debt.

"As for offending people, that’s even more impossible. Our elders are all good-tempered and get along well with the neighbors. We rarely get into arguments."

They had always believed in keeping the peace to prosper and never got into disputes. They had good relationships with everyone in the neighborhood.

With no financial conflicts, he really couldn’t think of who their family could have possibly offended to deserve a random disaster like this.

Hearing the man’s words, Evan Keller turned his attention back to the perpetrator. "The driver’s expression is very calm, and there’s no smell of alcohol on him. We can initially rule out drunk driving. As for anything else, we’ll have to wait for the local police to arrive."

Having heard about a vicious car accident, the local police rushed to the scene immediately.

"What’s going on here? Where’s the perpetrator?" The captain in charge pushed through the crowd of onlookers and made his way to the center of the incident.

At the same time, his eyes constantly scanned the surroundings.

The caller had sounded panicked and hung up without explaining things clearly, so they hadn’t dared to delay, rushing over the moment the call ended.

They had mentally prepared for the worst.

But after arriving, they found that things weren’t as bad as they’d imagined.

The gruesome scene they had anticipated wasn’t there. The perpetrator was contained, unable to move inside his car.

And the people standing nearby, faces pale with lingering fear but also showing the relief of having survived, must be the victims of the crash.

The captain’s gaze swept from the family of three to Evan Keller and his team.

Although they were in plain clothes, their demeanor and subconscious movements told the captain that this group was most likely fellow officers.

Sure enough, the next second, Evan Keller handed his credentials to the captain, gave a brief explanation, and summarized the information they had gathered. "We were passing through on a mission and happened upon this case.

"The victims, a family of three, don’t know the perpetrator. They have a simple social circle, no conflicts with others, and no debt.

"The driver wasn’t drunk, but I recommend checking for drugged driving."

After seeing Evan Keller’s credentials and hearing his summary, the captain shook his hand in thanks.

’If they hadn’t happened to pass by and save them, the consequences would have been unimaginable.’

The two exchanged phone numbers, and the captain promised to inform him of the results once the case was closed.

An officer who had followed the captain took the perpetrator from Barry Quinn’s custody. Just as they were preparing to take him and the family back to the station, a woman pushed her way through the back of the crowd.

The woman looked to be in her fifties or sixties and was well-maintained.

She wore an anxious expression as she squeezed through, her eyes searching the area. When she saw the family of three standing next to Evan Keller, she stumbled forward, her voice filled with lingering fear.

"Son! It really is you! Are you okay?

"I was waiting at home for you, and when you didn’t show up, I came out to look for you and heard someone say there was a car accident here! It’s good that you’re okay, it’s good that you’re okay." The woman circled her son and daughter-in-law, and after confirming they weren’t injured, she took her precious grandson from her daughter-in-law’s arms and planted a big kiss on his cheek.

The toddler, who had been listless from the earlier collision, perked up upon seeing his doting grandmother and snuggled against her cheek.

After the four of them shared an affectionate moment, they approached Evan Keller and his team once more to express their gratitude again.

Once Evan Keller and the others confirmed that nothing had been missed, they regrouped and returned to the police station through Vivian Dunn’s house.

Sean Hughes had been waiting by the door. When he saw Zoe Sawyer return, he hurried over to ask about the situation.

"We saved them. As it stands, the case doesn’t seem complicated. We should have the results by tomorrow." Zoe Sawyer looped her arm through Sean’s as she walked toward her desk.

Meanwhile, Heath Hale stopped and looked at the team members who had gone out on a mission for the first time. "This was your first time out on a mission. You’ll need to write a report and submit it to Evan Keller."

Perhaps afraid they would overthink it, Heath Hale added an explanation, "This is mandatory. We all had to write them, too."

The team members nodded in understanding and promised to submit their reports the next day.

Just as Zoe Sawyer had thought, the moment she arrived at the office, Evan Keller handed her a report.

"Yesterday’s case is closed. The perpetrator confessed. He didn’t know them. He was just in a bad mood and wanted to vent." When Evan Keller read the motive on the report, he was at a loss for words for a moment.

’Just because he was feeling annoyed, he decided to drive his car onto the sidewalk.’

’If they hadn’t pulled the two adults away in time, you can imagine what would have happened!’

Due to the severity of the situation, the local police would need to maintain communication with the victims. Compensation and sentencing—he wouldn’t escape either.

"As long as it’s solved." Zoe Sawyer breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she put the report down, the phone on Evan Keller’s desk rang.

It was the Chief.

After taking the call and listening, Evan Keller hung up and looked at Zoe Sawyer, Sean Hughes, and the others. "The Chief wants to see us. It’s probably a new case."

Soon, the group hurried to the conference room.

As soon as they entered, they saw several other people already seated inside.

In the farthest corner sat a young girl with her head bowed. Her hair was neatly combed, but her clothes were wrinkled, and she clutched a piece of paper in her hand.

’She doesn’t look like she belongs at the station.’

She looked up when she heard them enter.

Evan Keller took a step to the side, using his body to block her line of sight.

Sean Hughes quickly pulled out a new mask and put it on Zoe Sawyer. Then, at the Chief’s signal, the team sat down on the other side.

"I’ve called you here because there’s a case that requires your assistance." The Chief only opened the projector in front of him after confirming everyone was seated.

An image quickly appeared before Zoe Sawyer and the others.

The photo was simple, showing only a red jacket.

"Find the owner of this jacket."
