My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 209: Taking Action
Chapter 209: Chapter 209: Taking Action
Amid the gasps and screams of Zoe Sawyer and the surrounding pedestrians, the two adults were thrown into the air before crashing heavily back onto the ground. Blood began to spread out from beneath their bodies.
The child in the man’s arms was flung from his grasp, landing on the car that had hit them.
Zoe Sawyer’s face was ashen. If she had seen correctly, the child’s head had been severed from its body.
The next moment, Zoe Sawyer watched as the driver got out of his car. He was on the phone as he walked over to the young couple.
He kicked the man’s body, seemingly checking if he was still breathing, and said something with a smirk.
After confirming the couple was dead, the driver turned and walked back toward his car.
A moment after opening the door and getting inside, he threw the child’s body out of the car window.
The driver was about to start the car and flee, but the surrounding crowd, having snapped out of their shock, had already converged on the vehicle.
Some people called the police, others called for an ambulance.
A muscular man reached through the open window, grabbed the driver by the collar, and violently dragged him out of the car, tossing him onto the pavement.
By the time the police arrived, the driver had already been kicked more times than anyone could count.
His previously well-coiffed hair was now a complete mess, and several patches had even been torn out.
Just as the police officer in her vision was about to speak, Zoe Sawyer was snapped back to reality, thrown off balance by the resistance from the door.
"What happened? You look awful." Heath Hale steadied Zoe Sawyer and helped her to a seat, his face etched with concern.
He couldn’t see what she saw when she was having a premonition.
He had only seen Zoe Sawyer’s face suddenly drain of color and heard her cry out.
Heath Hale surmised that what Zoe Sawyer had just witnessed was either more complex than he’d imagined, or the scene was simply too gruesome.
Evan Keller and the others heard Zoe Sawyer’s voice as well. They all stopped their work and looked over at her, concerned.
After taking a few sips of the warm water Beau had brought her, Zoe Sawyer managed to compose herself. She met the concerned gazes of Heath Hale and the others and began to explain, "It was a car crash. A family of three was sent flying by a speeding sedan.
The couple died instantly. The child was decapitated. And the driver, after hitting them, didn’t call the police. Instead, he got out of his car to check on the victims.
He even tossed the child’s body from the car before trying to flee, but the crowd stopped him."
Zoe Sawyer had been to her fair share of crime scenes and had seen plenty of gruesome bodies.
But a scene like this still made her stomach turn.
Her revulsion wasn’t directed at the three victims, but at the perpetrator.
She was enraged by his blatant disregard for human life.
Recounting the vision to Heath Hale and the others helped alleviate much of Zoe Sawyer’s distress.
"A young family of three... that’s two or three extended families behind them. We can’t waste any time. We need to pinpoint their location right away." Evan Keller walked over, his face grim after hearing Zoe Sawyer’s story. "Zoe, did you notice any distinctive buildings nearby? Or any decorations, things like that?"
"The streetlights! They had decorative panels shaped like vases!" The image of the vase decorations instantly came to Zoe Sawyer’s mind.
Immediately after, Zoe Sawyer also wrote down the perpetrator’s license plate number.
Officer Lee, who was on standby, quickly pinpointed the general area, but the exact location of the crash still needed confirmation.
"It’s in the neighboring province." Zoe Sawyer stared at the address, her mind frantically trying to recall the nearby storefronts from her vision.
She described the ones she had seen.
Time was of the essence; they couldn’t afford to get there and search aimlessly. By the time they found the place, it would be too late.
"Evan, you take a team of the new recruits and go with Zoe. Teamwork isn’t built through conversation, it’s forged through practice."
Just as the team was frantically studying maps to pinpoint the location and debating how many people to send, the Chief appeared at the door and made the decision for them.
Using Zoe Sawyer’s descriptions, Vivian Dunn finally pinpointed the exact location of the crash.
"This place looks familiar... My family has a small house not far from here. It’s empty right now. If we use that as a base, we won’t draw any attention." Vivian Dunn stared at the address, her mind working. She finally recalled that her family had bought a house in the area years ago.
However, due to her studies and career, the house had been left vacant.
To avoid the hassle, they had never rented it out; she just stayed there occasionally for short periods.
It was perfect for the mission!
"That’s perfect! Time is short, let’s head over now," Zoe Sawyer said, slapping her thigh happily.
The others wasted no time, quickly changing into civilian clothes and heading out after Zoe Sawyer.
They could have worn their uniforms, but they would have been too conspicuous and might have attracted unwanted attention from locals and the local police force.
To be safe, changing into their own clothes was the better option.
This way, they could operate out of Vivian Dunn’s house without drawing suspicion.
"What’s our next move?" Zoe Sawyer asked, looking to Evan Keller.
’The fastest and most direct method is to find the perpetrator, detain him on some pretext, and hold him until the time of the crash has passed. That should be enough to avert the family’s tragic fate.’
’But this plan has a major uncertainty.’
’If we stop this man, will another perpetrator just appear out of nowhere to carry out the original event?’
Although they had never encountered a situation like that before, Zoe Sawyer and the others felt it was a possibility they had to consider.
There was another factor: they still couldn’t be sure if the crash was a targeted act of revenge or a random, impulsive crime.
Judging by the perpetrator’s excited demeanor in her vision, Zoe Sawyer leaned toward the theory of premeditated revenge.
"Let’s head to the crash site first. Judging by the light outside, we don’t have much time before it happens." Evan Keller looked up at the sky and made a quick decision.
The team reached their destination as quickly as possible.
Zoe Sawyer walked along the sidewalk, scanning the environment.
It didn’t take long for her to pinpoint the exact spot where the car would burst onto the sidewalk.
"This is it." Zoe Sawyer stamped her foot for emphasis and scanned the area.
’The family of three isn’t here yet. There’s still time!’
At a signal from Evan Keller, the other team members spread out, covering the length of the sidewalk.
They watched the traffic on the street and the pedestrians on the path.
The seconds ticked by. Soon, a couple appeared at the end of the sidewalk.
A young couple, holding their child, approached them laughing and chatting, completely unaware of the disaster about to befall them.
"Here they come! Everyone, be ready!"
