Chapter 192: Chapter 192: The Truth

Wendy Logan sat in the interrogation chair, her expression stiffening for a moment.

But recalling her father’s constant reminders, Wendy Logan quickly composed herself, her face a mask of confusion. "Chronic poisoning? Is someone poisoned?"

After speaking, she even glanced from side to side, feigning curiosity.

Evan Keller tapped the table in front of him, his tone calm and cold. "Don’t try to change the subject. We’re questioning you now to give you a chance to confess for a more lenient sentence.

Don’t try to hide things from the police. The information we have is far more than you can imagine."

A flash of panic appeared in Wendy Logan’s eyes. Although she quickly controlled it, it didn’t escape Evan Keller’s notice.

Thinking of her father’s instructions, and then of her daughter sleeping in the office, Wendy Logan suppressed her anxiety and continued to fend off Evan Keller’s questions.

"Officer, I really don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not a doctor; I wouldn’t know how to handle a poisoning." Wendy Logan shrugged helplessly. "Besides, I know my husband’s condition. He’s in great health and hasn’t shown any signs of discomfort. It definitely isn’t him."

As she spoke, Wendy Logan’s expression grew more confident. After she finished, she even gave a firm nod, as if to confirm she hadn’t misspoken.

"But I never said the person who was poisoned was your husband, did I? Why did you immediately jump to that conclusion?

Or is it that you know something? And you’re hiding it here, trying to obstruct the police investigation?" Evan Keller tapped the table and continued his questioning.

Wendy Logan’s confident expression froze instantly. Her mind raced, and her face turned deathly pale.

’That’s right... the officer never said who was poisoned...’

"Heh, who else would you be asking me about besides my family?" Wendy Logan started to raise a hand to wipe her sweat, but after meeting Evan Keller’s gaze, she sheepishly lowered it again.

’The more I say, the more mistakes I’ll make.’ Wendy Logan decided that the next time Evan Keller asked something, she would just play dumb and say she didn’t know.

But Wendy Logan didn’t have to wait for another question. She watched as he closed his notebook and left with the recording officer.

As he stood up, he gave her a single, meaningful look but said nothing else.

Staring at the empty interrogation room, Wendy Logan felt an inexplicable sense of panic.

’What was that look on the officer’s face just now?’

’Could they have really found something? Was he just here to give me a chance?’

’No, no, what if he’s just trying to bluff me? I’ve seen this kind of thing on TV shows. When they don’t have solid proof, they use this method to see if they can trick a few clues out of you.’

’I can’t fall for it! I can’t ruin Dad’s plan!’

Wendy Logan tried to steel herself, but a second later, another thought popped into her head.

’What if...’

’What if it’s real? After all, this is the age of big data. Any search you do, any chat you have online, leaves a record. If they really found evidence, didn’t I just throw away my chance?!’

The more Wendy Logan thought about it, the more agitated she became, and she subconsciously started biting her nails.

"Are you done with the interrogation?" Zoe Sawyer asked curiously as she saw Evan Keller come out.

Evan Keller shook his head. "No rush. We’ll let her stew for a bit, let her overthink things."

This was the right way to handle this kind of situation.

Constant questioning would only make the suspect more determined to stonewall and waste the police’s time.

But if, in the middle of it, he made it seem like the police already had evidence and were just offering a chance to confess, it was all up to the suspect to take it.

If the suspect followed that lead, the interrogation could end smoothly.

If they remained tight-lipped, then he would leave and let them sit alone. They would inevitably start to overthink, which would be advantageous for subsequent questioning.

Zoe Sawyer nodded in understanding. She was familiar with this tactic. In other words, it was psychological warfare.

The one with the weaker nerves would lose.

"So we just wait now?" Zoe Sawyer asked hesitantly, pointing at Wendy Logan, who had already started chewing her nails inside.

"Let her be for a while. I’m going to see Boss Logan." Evan Keller shook his head. He didn’t have time to waste on this.

However, this tactic would obviously be useless against Boss Logan.

But Evan Keller had his own methods for dealing with people like him.

Just then, Officer Lee arrived with the results of his investigation.

After looking through the records, Evan Keller decided to change his approach and end this quickly.

"Take a look at this. Anything you want to say?" Evan Keller tossed the file Officer Lee had brought directly in front of Boss Logan.

The chat logs on top were detailed. They were records of conversations between Boss Logan and his son-in-law’s mistress, with every page showing Boss Logan instructing her on how to cook certain dishes.

It all seemed normal, but when paired with the food Boss Logan had his daughter bring home, the properties of the foods had a negative interaction.

Consuming this combination over a long period would damage one’s health and kidneys, causing irreversible harm that wouldn’t be easily detected in a normal check-up.

This was the main reason Wendy Logan’s husband was unsteady on his feet.

"Our officers also just returned from the hospital with a statement from Miss Ford.

She said she originally had no intention of cooking. It was the child who told her that ’Daddy’ really liked the food you two cook. In order to win him over through his stomach, she decided to learn.

And coincidentally, on that very day, you started a livestream. And even more coincidentally, the child happened to come across your livestream for Miss Ford." Evan Keller flipped through the evidence, stopping on a certain page, then stared at Boss Logan. "When that child grows up and realizes they were an unwitting tool for you and your daughter to harm their father, do you think they’ll resent themselves?"

At this point, the truth was obvious.

After discovering her husband’s affair, Wendy Logan’s relentless pestering had failed to win him back.

It was around this time that Eldest Brother Miller’s father started causing trouble. Boss Logan noticed his blood pressure medication, and an idea quickly formed in his mind.

He intentionally guided his granddaughter to tell Miss Ford that her father loved the food handmade by his grandpa and mom. Miss Ford, wanting to keep the man by her side, show off her domestic skills, and completely crush Wendy Logan, naturally chose to cook for him herself.

And what if she didn’t know how? That’s when the child would "coincidentally" stumble upon Boss Logan’s livestream, just as he was making a dish his son-in-law loved.

Things progressed naturally from there.

Because the recipe was too difficult, Miss Ford chose to shower him with gifts on the stream and added him on WeChat. Then, Boss Logan began instructing her step by step.

The husband would eat lunch at Miss Ford’s place and then go home for a late-night meal that Wendy Logan brought back.

The two meals conflicted, and over time, his health collapsed.

However, Evan Keller had one question.

’Does the child... really not know anything?’
