Wendy Logan started to say something, but a look from Boss Logan silenced her.

’What’s there to be afraid of?’

’We haven’t done anything. We’re the perfect victims. There’s nothing to fear!’

"Don’t be afraid. The police will see that we get justice," Boss Logan said quietly, patting his daughter’s back with pointed meaning.

There might not be any officers guarding them here, but the surveillance camera overhead was still recording.

’I can’t afford to be careless.’

’Just one last step.’

But when he thought about what had just happened, the corners of Boss Logan’s mouth couldn’t help but lift. ’This is perfect.’

’I don’t even have to think about how to wrap this up. That idiot got himself into this mess.’

Seeing her father’s look telling her to stay calm, Wendy Logan took a deep breath. ’That’s right,’ she thought. ’We didn’t do anything. There’s nothing to be afraid of.’

On the other side of the room, Zoe Sawyer, Beau, and Heath Hale were watching the surveillance feed. After seeing the father and daughter’s interaction, Zoe’s tone was firm. "Those two are definitely hiding something!"

Their actions and expressions weren’t those of people whose loved one had just been in an accident. You could even tell they were hiding something.

"But they look so confident, as if they have nothing to fear. This car accident probably wasn’t their doing," Heath Hale said, looking at the file he had just received from a colleague and quickly offering his opinion.

Anyone who does something is bound to leave a trace.

This father-daughter duo wasn’t afraid of our investigation at all, which can only mean the accident had nothing to do with them.

However, they must be hiding something else.

Heath Hale stared at Wendy Logan’s face. Beneath her calm expression, he could see a hint of panic.

’Going after her will be the fastest way.’

Soon, Evan Keller rushed back. Seeing Zoe Sawyer and the others in the office, he quickly handed a USB drive to Heath Hale. "Help me check out the situation with the hit-and-run vehicle. On my way back, I already had someone start looking into Boss Logan and his daughter. We should have the results soon."

Zoe Sawyer and Beau gathered around Heath Hale to watch the contents of the USB drive.

The video on the drive wasn’t long. They quickly watched it from beginning to end.

"The car had a clear target. It was going straight for those two victims. From the moment it shot out from the corner to the impact, the entire process took less than thirty seconds."

"After crashing into the stone bollard, the driver even tried to restart the car. He passed out before he could succeed, though. We don’t know if he was trying to escape or if he was going to turn back and inflict a second injury on the victims."

After reviewing all the footage, Heath Hale quickly drew a conclusion.

But there was something strange. In the surveillance video, the male victim appeared dazed and unsteady on his feet. At times, the pregnant woman beside him even had to reach out and support him.

Evan Keller thought about First Brother Miller, whom he had seen at the scene. Then he thought about how Wendy Logan and the female victim were dressed today. An idea suddenly struck him. He waved another team member over and gave him an assignment: "Go and investigate what the Miller and Logan families have been up to these past few days. Then, focus on checking for any financial ties between the Miller family and the perpetrator."

"Understood, Captain Keller."

The officer didn’t waste any time. As soon as Evan Keller finished speaking, he turned and left to begin the investigation.

Before long, all the files were delivered to Evan Keller.

Zoe Sawyer leaned over to read along with him and quickly got a clear picture of the situation.

The marital problems between Wendy Logan and her husband had started six months ago. Before that, she had been going after her husband’s mistress, successfully getting the woman fired from her job and even showing up at her parents’ house.

She told them to get their daughter under control and to stop her from destroying her family. But unexpectedly, the mistress’s parents were not ashamed but proud, and they even called their daughter to tattle on Wendy.

As one might expect, when her husband found out what Wendy had done, it led to another furious argument.

It was after this argument that the gloves came off. They became completely hostile, and Wendy Logan’s husband started staying out all night.

For their daughter’s sake, however, he still came home every day, though he and Wendy slept in separate rooms.

A month ago, Wendy Logan, who had been trying to win back her husband by using their child and family, suddenly changed her approach.

Not only did she start dressing like his mistress, but she also encouraged her daughter to be closer to him. She also frequently brought home a delicious dish from her father’s restaurant in the evenings.

Her husband seemed surprised by her change in personality, but he didn’t overthink it. He just assumed Wendy had finally seen reason, and he started spending more time at home for dinner each night.

Until today, when the car accident happened.

As for the Miller family, things were much more serious.

Due to an adverse drug interaction, First Brother Miller’s father had been hospitalized. It cost a fortune to save him, but his health collapsed. His vitality was completely gone, and he was a shadow of his former self.

First Brother Miller’s wife was at the hospital taking care of her father-in-law, while the two brothers, First Brother Miller and Second Brother Miller, ran their shop as usual. Everything seemed normal.

However, they discovered a large withdrawal from a bank card belonging to First Brother Miller’s wife—a card she had since before her marriage. The transaction wasn’t a transfer; it was cash.

The perpetrator’s situation was much simpler. He had a wife and child, and no large deposits had been made to his bank account. However, he had just been diagnosed with late-stage cancer a few days prior. It was treatable, but his family couldn’t afford the exorbitant medical bills.

Even if the treatment was successful, he would need long-term medication to maintain his health, which was another huge expense. In the end, the perpetrator simply packed his things and checked himself out of the hospital.

Upon seeing these results, the officer who had taken the assignment also looked into the movements of the Miller family and the perpetrator’s family over the last two days.

This led to a new discovery. The day before yesterday, Second Brother Miller had secretly met the perpetrator’s wife at a bubble tea shop. When Second Brother Miller arrived, he was carrying a large backpack. After he left, the backpack was seen next to the perpetrator’s wife.

"This seems pretty clear-cut," Evan Keller said, pointing to the report. "One party puts up the money, the other provides the muscle. They wanted to kill Wendy Logan, but they accidentally got the wrong person."

The case was simple, and the evidence would be easy to gather. For Evan Keller, the only remaining question was the attitude of Boss Logan and Wendy Logan.

He felt like he was overlooking something.

But a moment later, a call from the hospital dispelled his doubts.

"You mean, chronic poisoning?" Evan Keller lowered his voice, repeating those two words. His tone was a mixture of disbelief and sudden understanding.

Evan Keller had the call on speakerphone. Listening from the side, Zoe Sawyer quickly connected the dots.

"So that’s what was going on!" Zoe Sawyer exclaimed, slapping her thigh. She understood now, too!

After confirming the information, Evan Keller looked over at Officer Lee, who was sitting nearby, and told him to look up the recipes Boss Logan had been teaching on his livestreams recently.

"What now? Are we going to interrogate them?!"
