Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Will We Really Not Be Found Out?

When Evan Keller and his team arrived at the scene, they saw a man lying in a pool of blood, his eyes shut and his face ghastly pale.

Nearby, a sedan was crashed crookedly against a stone bollard. The driver was slumped over the steering wheel with their eyes closed, their condition unknown.

Not far from the man, a woman with a slightly swollen belly was propped up on the ground. She, too, was in bad shape.

She was clutching her stomach, her expression one of unbearable pain, as blood continuously flowed from her lower body.

The crowd of onlookers was in a frenzy, some calling the police, others calling for an ambulance.

Soon, Evan Keller and his team were on site.

"Officer, a car suddenly shot out and hit my daddy and the auntie. Then Daddy lay down, and the auntie said her tummy hurts." A little girl in a princess dress, her face stained with blood, stood on the road looking lost.

When she saw Evan Keller approach, her eyes lit up. She ran over, grabbed his pant leg, and pointed toward her father with a look of pure terror.

Evan waved to the officers behind him, signaling for them to check on the situation.

He then crouched down, his expression gentle. "Little one, can you tell me what happened?"

Before the little girl could speak, two people pushed through the crowd and swept her into a hug. "Sweetheart, are you okay? You scared Mommy to death!"

"Boss Logan?" Evan’s voice held a note of surprise as he recognized the man standing next to the mother and daughter.

’Isn’t this the owner of that little restaurant who caused a scene at the station a couple of days ago over some grapefruits?’

Without even waiting for Evan to ask, Boss Logan pointed to the mother and daughter huddled together and said, "This is my daughter and my granddaughter."

He paused, then pointed to the man lying on the ground, his condition unknown. "That’s my son-in-law. And his mistress."

Hearing this, Evan couldn’t help but rub his temples.

’Yep, there’s definitely some major drama here.’

But now wasn’t the time to get into that. Evan glanced at his team, who had already started their work. He took out his notepad, looked at Boss Logan, and asked, "Why are you here? Is your daughter’s marriage over?

You knew your son-in-law was cheating, yet you did nothing. Why?"

As he fired off the series of questions, Evan’s eyes were fixed on Boss Logan, trying to read something from his expression and behavior.

Boss Logan sighed and gestured toward his daughter with a look of resignation. "We were just following them. I was afraid that mistress would be mean to my granddaughter.

The two of them aren’t divorced yet. My daughter is blinded by love and keeps thinking she can win him back. Plus, they haven’t settled child custody or the division of assets, so it just keeps dragging on.

As for why I knew and did nothing? I’ve yelled, I’ve scolded—you name it. Nothing worked. What else could I do?"

After answering Evan’s questions one by one, Boss Logan heaved a heavy sigh, as if to say he’d truly done all he could.

Evan closed his notebook and stared at Boss Logan for a long moment before his gaze shifted back to the crash scene.

At first glance, it looked like an accident, but his years of experience told him otherwise.

And in this apparent accident, his first suspects were the father and daughter standing right in front of him.

Evan glanced at the woman a short distance away, who was wailing and clutching her stomach. White dress, long curly hair, and a small shoulder bag.

Boss Logan’s daughter: white dress, long curly hair, and also carrying a small shoulder bag. Their builds looked similar, too.

’Now this is interesting.’

"You three, come with us back to the station. We’ll sort out the rest later." Evan waved over an officer and had him take Boss Logan and his family away.

The woman picked up the little girl and was about to say something, but Boss Logan cut her off. "Yes, yes, of course. We understand."

Just then, the ambulance arrived in a hurry. The paramedics loaded the three injured people onto stretchers and sped off toward the hospital.

Evan left half of his team behind to clear the scene and take statements from any nearby witnesses to see if they could find anything.

As for himself, he requested the surveillance footage from the area, planning to head back to the station to confirm his theory.

As he was about to get in his car and leave, Evan’s gaze suddenly fell on a man in the crowd.

’Isn’t that the guy who was demanding Boss Logan pay for his father’s medical bills a few days ago?’

’If I remember correctly, his last name was Miller?’

’What’s he doing here? Could today’s incident have something to do with him?’

Before Evan could figure it out, First Brother Miller accidentally made eye contact with him. He panicked, and the fear showed plainly on his face.

Not wanting to stick around and draw Evan’s attention, First Brother Miller turned, pushed his way back into the crowd, and left the area.

Evan committed First Brother Miller’s expression and behavior to memory. He planned to call him in for questioning after he was done with the Logan family.

That look on his face just now was a good indication that he knew something about today’s car crash.

First Brother Miller walked quickly toward his home, muttering curses under his breath. "Useless! A complete and utter waste!

Took my money and still hit the wrong person! What a goddamn waste of my money!"

The thought of the money he’d paid out made First Brother Miller spit on the ground in heartache.

But then he remembered that the driver was also seriously injured and looked like he might not wake up.

First Brother Miller rubbed his arm, a pang of guilt hitting him. ’I didn’t tell him to get himself killed. That was just his own shitty driving. Yeah, that’s right! It has nothing to do with me!’

After this flimsy attempt to console himself, First Brother Miller didn’t dare linger outside any longer and hurried home.

Meanwhile, after arriving at the police station with the officers, Wendy Logan clutched her daughter and looked anxiously at her father.

’How did we end up at the station? What am I supposed to say now?’

Boss Logan subtly shifted his position, then reached out and gently patted his daughter’s back, signaling that she should leave everything to him.

At the same time, when the officer leading them wasn’t looking, he gestured toward the little girl, who had cried herself to sleep.

Wendy Logan quickly understood her father’s meaning and gave a slight nod to show she understood.

The two of them thought no one had seen their exchange, but they didn’t realize they were being watched by Beau and Zoe Sawyer, who were tucked away in an inconspicuous corner.

However, to their surprise, the young officer simply led them to a reception room, brought them each a cup of hot water, and then left.

He didn’t say a word or ask a single question the entire time.

Placing her daughter on the sofa next to her, Wendy Logan held the warm cup in both hands, her voice trembling.

"Dad, are you sure they won’t find out about what we did?"
