Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Is Old Man Dex Really Going to Plant Bombs?

Ethan Miller was a simple man. He actually thought Dexter Bishop had arranged a new job for them, so he quickly pulled open the door to let Wyatt Ford come in and talk.

Pierce Miller was a bit more cunning than his brother, but after hearing what Wyatt Ford said, he relaxed a little.

’Makes sense,’ he thought. ’Old Man Dex is busy every day. He wouldn’t have time to worry about my little ideas.’

"Ford, what’s the new job Old Man Dex has for us? Can you give us a little hint now?" Pierce Miller’s eyes darted about as he plopped down next to Wyatt Ford, his tone chummy.

Wyatt Ford watched Ethan Miller approach, mentally calculating the distance while playing along. "Of course. Remember what Old Man Dex said earlier?

We’re going to plant some bombs in places like schools and banks. Now, there’s a crucial mission for you two. The success of the entire operation hinges on it.

It has to be you!"

As Ethan Miller walked over, his face flushed with excitement from what Wyatt Ford had just said. "Old Man Dex thinks so highly of us! We’ll definitely do a good job and won’t let him down!

So, Ford, what’s the mission?"

In contrast to his twin brother’s excitement, the inexplicable unease in Pierce Miller’s heart grew stronger.

’Something’s wrong. Very wrong!’

’He was excited by the words too, but there were plenty of others who were more in Old Man Dex’s favor than they were!’

’A mission like this, one that decides the fate of the entire operation, is usually handled by Wyatt Ford himself.’

’There’s never been any talk of handing it off to someone else!’

’Could it be that Old Man Dex wants to groom us brothers for bigger things?’

’But that doesn’t make sense either!’

Before Pierce Miller could figure it out, Ethan Miller had already walked right in front of them.

The next second, Wyatt Ford moved with startling speed, cleanly drawing his gun and firing a single shot into Ethan Miller’s head.

Unable to process what was happening, Ethan Miller’s expression went slack. He collapsed, a bloody hole in his head, and stopped breathing.

Blood flowed from the wound, soaking the floor around him and staining Pierce Miller’s vision red.

Pierce Miller stared at Ethan Miller on the floor, his mouth opening and closing. He tried to speak, but only meaningless "ah, ah" sounds came out.

The overwhelming shock and grief had stolen his voice.

People from the other rooms heard the gunshot and came out. After realizing it was Wyatt Ford who had fired, they silently returned to their rooms.

’Wyatt Ford must have his reasons for doing this.’

’We don’t know what’s going on, so it’s better not to get involved.’

"I’ll kill you!" After a dozen seconds, Pierce Miller seemed to find his voice. He clenched his fists and lunged at Wyatt Ford.

The next second, another gunshot rang out.

A bloody hole appeared in Pierce Miller’s shoulder.

"Why?"

The searing pain made Pierce Miller cry out. He crumpled to his knees, clutching his wound, his expression a mixture of confusion and agony as he looked at Wyatt Ford.

’He hadn’t betrayed anyone, nor had he tried to usurp power. Why were they being treated like this?’

Pierce Miller couldn’t understand.

Wyatt Ford crouched down, shot him again—this time in the back of the hand—and said in a casual tone, "Sometimes, certain ideas should never have been born in the first place. Understand?

And don’t think anyone will come running to save you because they heard gunshots. No one lives around here anymore. Even if I went to dump your bodies right now, you’d probably be rotten by the time you were found."

Pierce Miller wanted to say something more. As he looked up, his eyes widened dramatically, as if he had seen something unbelievable.

Meanwhile, on Zoe Sawyer’s side, Evan Keller and his team finally returned.

"How did it go?" Heath Hale asked as he went to meet them.

Evan Keller ran a hand through his hair, his tone frustrated. "We checked all the nearby shopping malls. Nothing out of the ordinary so far.

I had them come back for a break, get some food to recharge. We’ll head out again later."

The workload was about to get heavy; they were definitely going to be working around the clock for a while.

So, while the workload was still manageable, bringing them back for a proper rest was the right call.

Heath Hale glanced at the team behind Evan Keller. They all seemed to be in decent spirits.

"Grab a few bites. We’re going to go arrest that bomb suspect first." Heath Hale clapped Evan Keller on the shoulder and gave him a quick rundown of what had happened.

If they hadn’t been short on manpower, they would have moved in already.

Evan Keller rubbed his face. Before he could speak, a team member behind him spoke up, "Captain, let’s go get him. That’s more important."

"Yeah, exactly! Let’s bring the guy in first. We can eat later, it’s no big deal." Another one patted his stomach. ’It’s fine, not starving yet.’

’Besides, if we eat first, we might get stomach cramps from the sudden exertion. We wouldn’t be at our best, and the suspect might get away.’

’Plus, as cops, irregular meals are just part of the job. Eating a little later is no big deal.’

The rest of the team didn’t speak, but they all nodded in agreement.

Since the men themselves had spoken, Heath Hale didn’t argue. He just waved them over, signaling for the group to follow.

The group returned to Zoe Sawyer’s private office.

Zoe Sawyer and Officer Lee were already waiting inside.

As soon as they arrived, Officer Lee handed them the files he was holding.

After confirming everyone had memorized the information, Zoe Sawyer reached out, grasped the doorknob, took a deep breath, and began to concentrate.

This time, the file was complete with a picture, so it didn’t take Zoe Sawyer much effort to find the right location.

Because they were dealing with a bomb suspect, Zoe Sawyer was extremely careful as she opened the door.

Peeking through the crack in the door, they saw it led to a room, which made the group even more tense.

’In a situation like this, it’s either a room full of criminals or just the target.’

At the right moment, Officer Lee slipped a prepared surveillance device through the gap, then turned on his screen to check the situation on the other side.

When they saw what was happening in the room, Zoe Sawyer and the others couldn’t help but gasp.

The good news: there were only three people in the room, and two of them were already incapacitated.

The bad news: of their two targets, one was already dead, and the other looked like he was about to be killed.

"The one holding the gun on the Miller brother has his back to us. Zoe Sawyer, just open the door.

I’ll hit him with a tranquilizer and take him down," Evan Keller said, brandishing the tranq gun in his hand.

As for Pierce Miller?

He would be Heath Hale’s responsibility.

If he tried to shout, he’d be silenced by a tranquilizer dart in a heartbeat.

The tranquilizer gun looked similar to a real pistol. As long as he wasn’t an idiot, he should know which choice to make.

Unexpectedly, just as they opened the door, they heard Pierce Miller shout at the top of his lungs.

"Ford, is Old Man Dex really going to plant bombs in places like hospitals?!"
