My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 151: Old Man Dex Has a New Job for You
Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Old Man Dex Has a New Job for You
"Okay, I’ve got it. Please send me a copy of these two men’s files." Officer Lee said, taking notes.
After asking all the necessary questions, Officer Lee suddenly thought of something. "Is there anything special about these twins?" he asked. "Or rather, what’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of them?"
"Anything special? No, not really. If it weren’t for this case, we wouldn’t have even noticed them."
The officer on the other end of the line repeated the question to himself, thought for a moment, and gave his answer.
The two brothers had always kept to themselves and never caused any trouble.
If they hadn’t suddenly stabbed someone to death and fled, people would have still thought of them as just honest, upstanding guys.
After confirming there was nothing else, Officer Lee hung up the phone.
As for the other two lookalikes, questioning revealed that, like the other ten, they had never left their hometowns. They were quickly ruled out as suspects.
"Here are the files." Officer Lee placed the documents he’d gathered in front of Heath Hale.
"Ethan Miller, Pierce Miller? What a waste of the good names their parents gave them." Zoe Sawyer leaned in for a look, unable to resist the snarky comment when she saw their names.
Overhearing this, Officer Lee recalled what the other officer had said and let out a dry chuckle.
The sons were murderers, and their parents were a real piece of work. For a moment, it was hard to say who was the bigger disappointment to whom.
"Wait for Evan Keller and his team to get back. Then we can try to move in and grab them," Heath Hale said, gesturing with the file in his hand.
Everyone who wasn’t needed at the station had already been sent out.
Right now, they couldn’t even spare a few people to go make the arrest.
"Don’t worry. I’ve already sent their photos to every officer’s phone. I told them to be on the lookout. The moment they appear, we’ll get them," Officer Lee said, holding up his phone to show he’d already sent the alert.
Every phone received the images—from traffic cops on duty to officers on leave.
Officer Lee felt a little guilty about interrupting their days off, but the situation was urgent. There was no time for such considerations.
Meanwhile, after a discussion with Six, Dexter Bishop decided to summon the few men he had left.
He had no choice. His previous crew had been wiped out, and this was all he had left.
The next job was too important. He had to make sure every detail was crystal clear.
If anything went wrong, this would be no laughing matter!
"In a little while, a delivery is coming. A batch of high-yield explosives. I want every one of you to handle them with extreme care!
We’re gonna hit them big! Hospitals, schools... even banks!" Dexter Bishop’s voice was filled with excitement.
A hint of excitement flickered across the faces of the men around him.
Making trouble, stirring up chaos—this was the kind of thing they lived for!
Ethan Miller glanced at the men around him and went along with the crowd, applauding.
He was fine with it. As long as his brother was with him, and they had food to eat and money to spend, he’d do whatever was asked of him.
Planting bombs was no big deal. It wasn’t the first time, after all.
Pierce Miller, however, was not nearly as calm.
The "high-yield explosives" Old Man Dex mentioned were clearly not some run-of-the-mill hardware.
Anyone who could get their hands on bombs like these and arrange for delivery had to have some serious backing!
’If I can get in good with this real boss, the one behind the scenes, couldn’t I make a big move and get on top myself?!’
’Pierce Miller felt he was just as capable and smart as Old Man Dex. All he lacked was an opportunity.’
’With a little backing, he was sure he could do a better job than Old Man Dex.’
The thought made Pierce Miller laugh out loud, a sound that stood out starkly in the tense atmosphere.
"What’s so funny?" Old Man Dex’s eyes narrowed, his tone menacing.
A flash of panic crossed Pierce Miller’s face, but he quickly came up with an excuse. "I was just picturing those cops running around like chickens with their heads cut off. It makes me laugh. You’ve gotta hand it to Old Man Dex. You make one move, and you create an impossible problem for them. That makes me happy."
Old Man Dex raised an eyebrow. The kid knew how to talk.
’But that’s not what he was really thinking, was it?’
Old Man Dex glanced at his confidant, Wyatt Ford, standing off to the side. Of the old crew who had escaped with him, Ford was the most loyal and the one who understood him best.
Wyatt Ford gave an almost imperceptible shake of his head, confirming it wasn’t.
But with so many people around, it wasn’t convenient to talk.
Old Man Dex said a few more words, then dismissed them to make their own preparations.
Wyatt Ford also went out with them, then, when no one was looking, he slipped back.
"What was it you wanted to say earlier?" Old Man Dex asked, leaning back in his chair. His eyes were half-closed, but his fingers drummed an irregular rhythm on the armrest.
’The Miller Brothers might be a bit stupid, but their loyalty made them useful. They were good pawns.’
’If he could help it, Old Man Dex didn’t want to lose them.’
Wyatt Ford didn’t hesitate, recounting exactly what he had observed from start to finish.
He didn’t embellish the story; he reported it just as it was.
When Wyatt Ford was done, Old Man Dex let out a cold sneer. To think someone had the gall to make a play for his position.
Now, no matter how useful the Miller Brothers were, he had no intention of keeping them around.
They were already showing signs of disloyalty. With such a critical operation ahead, he couldn’t afford to keep them. If they turned on him at a crucial moment, the damage would be catastrophic.
Forget the Miller Brothers—his own life, Dexter Bishop’s life, might be on the line.
"For the sake of the rest of the crew, these two can’t stay. Get rid of them. Make it clean, and don’t let anyone else notice.
Of course, with two fewer men, your workload will increase," Old Man Dex added with a sigh, casually sealing the Miller Brothers’ fate.
Wyatt Ford nodded, his tone unconcerned. "A little extra work is nothing. What’s important is not letting scum like that ruin your operation, Old Man Dex.
When the op is a success, you’re not going to short-change us, are you? Don’t you worry, Old Man Dex. The other guys get it. They know what’s important and won’t screw up."
Dexter Bishop nodded, satisfied. ’This one gets it.’
The two spoke for a few more moments before Wyatt Ford left the room. He walked directly toward the Miller Brothers’ room.
There was a bulge at Wyatt Ford’s waistband. The movement of his walking caused his jacket to swing aside, revealing the handgun tucked into his belt.
Before long, Wyatt Ford was at the door to the Miller Brothers’ room.
He knocked, and a moment later, Ethan Miller opened the door.
He looked confused when he saw it was Wyatt Ford. "Ford, what brings you here? Is something wrong?"
Pierce Miller, lounging on the sofa and scrolling through his phone, felt his stomach clench. A sense of dread washed over him.
Then he heard Wyatt Ford’s voice.
"Old Man Dex has a new assignment for you two."
