My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 147: Beau’s Terrifying Spatial Image Processing Ability
Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Beau’s Terrifying Spatial Image Processing Ability
Plastic bags again!
Black plastic bags appearing in two different places at the same time... this was far too much of a coincidence!
"Disperse the crowds. I’ll arrange for a team to head over and investigate. You all be careful!" Evan Keller understood the gravity of the situation. He began packing his things while instructing the junior officer on the other end of the line.
After giving the instructions, taking a break was out of the question. Evan Keller hurried off to find specialists to handle the two suspected bombs.
Heath Hale had Officer Lee pull up the surveillance footage from both locations, hoping to find some useful clues.
Zoe Sawyer didn’t want to just sit around, so she went over to watch with them.
After all, more eyes meant more brainpower, and a better chance of finding a clue.
Heath Hale glanced at Zoe Sawyer and shifted his chair, making half a seat’s worth of space for her.
Beau, who had just finished a drawing assignment from his teacher, squeezed in next to Zoe Sawyer to watch as well.
To keep the child from being uncomfortable, Zoe Sawyer had to inch closer to Heath Hale.
The three of them were now huddled in front of a single computer screen.
After they had gone through all the surveillance footage from around the school, Zoe Sawyer rubbed her tired eyes.
It was the end of the school day, so the area was already packed with people.
With the crowded streets and the cold weather forcing everyone to bundle up tightly, it was impossible to spot anything out of the ordinary.
It was as if the bomb had appeared on the ground in the blink of an eye. The next thing they knew, the officer on duty noticed something was wrong and called Evan Keller to report it.
"Let’s look at the other footage. Maybe we’ll find something there," Zoe Sawyer said, handing her eye drops to Heath Hale.
She’d been staring at surveillance monitors so much lately that her eyes were strained.
When they finished watching the second video, Zoe Sawyer slumped onto the desk, dejected.
This location was just like the one by the school—the foot traffic was simply overwhelming.
Even staring intently at the screen, one blink and the black plastic bag was just... there on the ground.
Before Zoe Sawyer could say anything, another call came in.
Officer Lee immediately transferred it to Heath Hale.
"We’ve had an incident over here—an explosive device injured someone. An elderly man who collects recyclables saw the device at the entrance of an old residential complex. He thought it was just something someone had thrown away, so he picked it up. It exploded the moment he opened the bag." The young officer spoke quickly, but he clearly recounted the entire event. "Luckily, the explosive was low-yield, so the man’s injuries aren’t severe. He’s already been sent to the hospital."
Heath Hale marked the location of the explosion on a map, then stared at the three spots.
The three locations weren’t close to each other. He could understand the first two; they were in high-traffic areas where an explosion would not only cause mass casualties but also widespread social panic.
But the old residential complex... what was the significance of that?
Not daring to waste any time, Heath Hale quickly contacted Evan Keller and told him to alert all officers in the field to be on the lookout for any suspicious black plastic bags.
The third device had already detonated and injured an innocent civilian.
Evan Keller was currently leading a team to deal with the suspicious black plastic bag at the elementary school. After hanging up, he relayed the warning to everyone with him.
And not just black plastic bags.
They needed to be extremely wary of any suspicious bag that appeared suddenly or could be used to hold something.
Who knew if the culprit would switch up the packaging and stop using black plastic bags.
It was always better to be cautious.
Sure enough, less than three minutes after Evan Keller sent out the alert, the office received three or four more calls.
All of them reported the discovery of an unidentified object.
Some were black plastic bags; others were burlap sacks.
The drop-off locations showed no discernible pattern, leaving Heath Hale and his team unable to predict where the next one would be placed.
Heath Hale stared at the map in front of him, frantically running through possibilities in his mind.
Each time he came up with a theory, he’d sketch it out on paper, only to discard it less than a minute later and start over.
Zoe Sawyer didn’t interrupt Heath Hale’s thoughts. She silently opened the surveillance video again, trying to find some clue within it.
The news that someone was randomly planting bombs around the city couldn’t be contained for long, especially now that someone had been injured.
The only thing she could do now was find a suspicious person in the footage and use her abilities to see if she could help catch them.
Just as Zoe Sawyer was about to scrub through the video for the third time, Beau, who had been silent all this time, reached out and stopped her hand. He pointed to a figure in the corner and said, "There’s something wrong with him."
Huh?
Huh? What?
Zoe Sawyer, whose eyes had been sore and mind weary, was suddenly wide awake. Heath Hale, still wrestling with his theories, put down his pen.
Officer Lee, who had just obtained footage from other locations, also stopped what he was doing. All eyes turned to Beau.
"Beau, you’re saying there’s something wrong with this person? How can you tell?" Zoe Sawyer asked excitedly, pointing to the figure Beau had indicated.
Hearing the question, Beau tilted his head, his tone innocent. "I just... saw it. Didn’t you see it, Zoe?"
Zoe Sawyer scratched her head, embarrassed. She really hadn’t seen anything amiss.
Despite having undergone some professional training, Beau still preferred to describe what was wrong in his own way.
"Here. When he first appears, his arm is bent, he looks a little panicked, and his chest is bulging. He’s hiding something.
After a few steps, over here, his arm is down, and his chest isn’t bulging anymore." As Beau spoke, he sketched out what he saw.
In just a few strokes, he outlined the suspect’s movements.
Then he added the details. The suspect’s faintly panicked expression and entire body language became perfectly clear.
The surveillance camera on the pedestrian street had just been replaced last year, so the resolution was decent. But the foot traffic was too heavy, and the clip was only a few seconds long. The suspect was wearing a mask and a hat and never stopped moving, so there were only a few frames of his face, all of them blurry. They were practically useless.
But somehow, Beau had spotted something wrong in those few short seconds, and with such clarity.
His spatial and visual processing abilities were off the charts!
Heath Hale isolated the few seconds Beau had pointed out and slowed the footage down several times. Finally, he caught the exact moment the suspect dropped the object he’d been holding.
"Found him!"
