My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 146: The Thing Wrapped in a Black Plastic Bag
Chapter 146: Chapter 146: The Thing Wrapped in a Black Plastic Bag
Dexter Bishop, who was hiding out in a remote town on the outskirts of Varden, immediately sat up straight after receiving the call, his face serious as he listened to the person on the other end.
"The boss said he can give you a chance to join us, but you’ll need to prove your loyalty.
Coincidentally, the Varden West Precinct just took down one of the boss’s crews. You’re to go back now and cause some trouble for them.
If you perform well, you can join us." The henchman’s voice came from the other side of the line, making Dexter Bishop’s eyes light up.
He eagerly agreed. When the henchman asked if there was anything else, Dexter Bishop thought for a moment and requested some materials.
Although buying these items separately wouldn’t be a problem, the quantity he needed was quite large.
If anyone was paying attention, they could easily notice something was off, which would lead to him being targeted again.
For the sake of his future plans, and since the henchman had made the offer, Dexter Bishop figured he might as well take it. He asked for half the materials, which would be enough to last him for a while.
’He could complete the mission and get his revenge at the same time. This job couldn’t be more perfect!’
The thought of the operation he had painstakingly built, destroyed in less than a day by a cop named Evan Keller, made Dexter Bishop burn with the desire to rush over and kill the man.
His men had been arrested and sentenced, and now he had money he didn’t dare use, forced to hide out in this backward town every day.
During this time, Dexter Bishop had come up with countless ways to get revenge; all he needed was an opportunity.
Now, his opportunity had arrived! ℯ
Dexter Bishop was certain he would not let this chance slip by!
After confirming that Dexter Bishop had a solid plan and telling him the items he requested would be delivered the next day, the henchman hung up the phone.
Dexter Bishop thought for a moment, then sent a text to Boss Thorne, the breakfast vendor who had a stall by the precinct entrance, telling him to keep an eye on the comings and goings at the station for the next few days.
If anything seemed unusual, he was to notify him immediately.
’As long as Boss Thorne does his job well and monitors the precinct’s every move, he’ll be handsomely rewarded.’
"No problem!"
After receiving the message, Boss Thorne excitedly replied with two words and resumed his old routine of selling breakfast while staking out the precinct.
However, their entire conversation was captured in crystal-clear detail by the surveillance camera right above Boss Thorne’s head.
Ever since they found out Boss Thorne was watching the precinct under someone else’s orders, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale had found an opportunity, reported it to their superiors, and swapped the surveillance camera at his fixed stall with one of their own.
This allowed them to monitor Boss Thorne’s activities at all times. The moment he made a move, they’d be ready to spring their trap.
So, right after Boss Thorne replied to Dexter Bishop, a screenshot of their chat conversation appeared on Officer Lee’s computer screen.
"So Old Man Dex finally shows his face again. I thought he was going to keep hiding in his shell forever!" Zoe Sawyer remarked with a click of her tongue, looking at the chat log. "At first, we just let Boss Thorne keep selling breakfast outside the precinct, hoping he might lead us to a bigger fish. But after that, Boss Thorne’s phone didn’t receive any more messages from unknown numbers. We were starting to think he’d been abandoned and were about to bring him in for a proper interrogation. I didn’t expect him to get another message before we had a chance to act."
"As long as we’re prepared, we don’t have to worry about whatever stunt they try to pull." Evan Keller clenched his fist. He’d been wanting to deal with this Boss Thorne for a long time.
They knew the man meant them harm, but they still had to tolerate his presence.
’Now, the big fish behind the scenes has finally surfaced!’
"Since he wants to know what’s happening at the precinct, it means this Old Man Dex is up to something again. Everyone in the field needs to be extra careful lately to avoid any unexpected incidents." Heath Hale knocked on the table, drawing everyone’s attention to him, then added a few more instructions.
After everyone nodded in agreement, Heath Hale looked over at Zoe Sawyer, who was standing to the side. He thought for a moment before making a decision. "For the time being, no matter where you go, you are not to leave Barry Quinn and Monkey’s sight.
If you need to go out, you have to report to us first. You can only leave if both I and the chief approve."
Although Zoe Sawyer’s abilities hadn’t yet been exposed to these criminals, caution was still necessary.
Heath Hale wasn’t sure if his arrangements were overkill, but he had a strange intuition that they had to watch Zoe Sawyer closely and not let even the slightest accident befall her.
"I understand." Zoe Sawyer nodded, not refusing Heath Hale’s well-intentioned gesture.
For the next few days, the precinct officers went about their business as usual on the surface—going out on field assignments, patrolling, and maintaining public order.
But behind the scenes, the two teams not on patrol were on constant standby, ready to rush over as backup at the first sign of trouble.
Meanwhile, Boss Thorne diligently remained at his post, reporting the situation at the precinct to Old Man Dex every hour.
Three days passed with everyone on high alert.
"Captain Keller! Someone found a suspicious black plastic bag at the elementary school entrance!"
Evan Keller, who had just returned from a field assignment and was taking a water break, suddenly received a call from one of his team members.
For the past few days, every police officer in Varden had been secretly instructed to immediately report anything unusual to their captain.
So, upon seeing this black plastic bag that had appeared out of nowhere, alarm bells went off in the young officer’s head.
One moment there was nothing there, and in the blink of an eye, a black plastic bag had appeared. It was impossible not to be tense and on guard.
It was almost time for the elementary school to let out, and the area around the school was crowded with parents waiting to pick up their children.
If the black plastic bag really contained something dangerous, one wrong move on his part could cause serious harm to the innocent bystanders nearby.
The young officer didn’t dare take the risk. The moment he spotted it, he evacuated the nearby parents, keeping them at least five meters away.
Then he called Evan Keller to report the situation.
’A black plastic bag that appeared out of nowhere?’
Evan Keller’s expression darkened. It wasn’t unheard of. Some terrorists would wrap bombs in plastic bags and leave them on the street, baiting curious passersby into opening them.
In the end, the bomb would explode, causing significant destruction to the surrounding area.
If it was a low-yield bomb, those close by might survive. But if it was a powerful one, people would be blown to pieces.
"Continue evacuating the crowd. I’ll contact the school and have them keep the children inside until the crisis is resolved."
Just then, the phone on Officer Lee’s desk also rang.
"Where’s Captain Keller? I can’t get through to his phone! We have a situation here—something wrapped in a black plastic bag just appeared out of nowhere!"
