Chapter 148: Chapter 148: This Suspect Has Accomplices

Heath Hale slammed his hand on the table and saved the frame.

Without waiting for Heath Hale to speak, Zoe Sawyer wrapped an arm around Beau’s shoulder. Her tone was a little fawning. "Beau, my dear, come take a look at this part."

After speaking, Zoe opened the surveillance footage from the elementary school entrance and even adjusted the monitor to give her a more comfortable view.

After watching it just twice, Beau identified the suspicious person and, just like before, sketched the suspect’s face.

"These two are the same person," Beau said, pointing at her two drawings and looking at Zoe Sawyer with a serious expression.

"The same person?" Zoe Sawyer’s eyes widened in disbelief.

The one from the pedestrian street, judging by the sketch, was clearly a young man.

But the one from the school entrance, based on their clothes and appearance, was a woman.

’Could they really be the same person?’

"Their bodies are very similar, and their faces too." Beau gestured around her own chin and cheekbones, her expression urgent.

She wanted to explain, but for a moment, she couldn’t find the right words to describe it.

"Beau, are you trying to say their body shapes are very similar, and the contours of their faces are too?" Heath Hale had gotten what Beau was trying to say and rephrased the question.

Beau nodded furiously. Yes, that was exactly what she wanted to say!

Her teacher had told her before, but she still hadn’t remembered. Thankfully, Heath Hale understood what she meant.

At this thought, Beau shot Heath a look of approval, expressing her appreciation.

Zoe Sawyer stroked her chin. The distance between the elementary school and the pedestrian street wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t exactly close either.

How did this suspect manage to change clothes in such a short time and then reappear over here?

Zoe’s first reaction was that the other person had the same ability as her, but she shook her head the next second, dismissing the idea.

’It’s not like these abilities are a dime a dozen. You can’t just grab a random person and expect them to have one.’

There had to be something here they weren’t getting.

Aside from the two surveillance cameras at the pedestrian street and the school entrance, the other locations where the same suspicious items were found weren’t so lucky.

The old residential complex had a camera, but it was old and the footage was somewhat blurry. Beau couldn’t extract any useful information from it.

"It’s fine. The old complex has one advantage: there are a lot of elderly people around. Someone might have seen something," Heath Hale said, pointing to the time the black plastic bag appeared in the blurry video.

Although the video was too blurry to make out faces, the approximate time the object appeared was still clear.

It was about half an hour later than the sightings at the school and the pedestrian street.

However, Zoe Sawyer fell into deep thought as she looked at the two drawings in front of Beau.

’We have the time, the place, and even the specific person now. I should be able to help.’

’Didn’t I get rid of The Axeman using this same method?!’

The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. Deciding to act immediately, Zoe Sawyer shot to her feet and headed for her private office.

It was a small, unused room that Evan Keller and Heath Hale had recently requested from the chief for her.

Inside were several storage shelves filled with all sorts of props Zoe might need, as well as a desk for her to rest at.

The reason for requesting the room was simple. Sometimes, Zoe would just open her door, blocking the path for everyone else.

When her door was open, forget responding to a call—even just walking in and out of the office became a problem.

That’s right, everyone had to wait until Zoe closed her door to get by.

At first, it wasn’t a big deal. But in the long run, it was bound to affect their daily work.

So, after some discussion, everyone in the office decided to clear out an unused room for Zoe to use as her "door-opening" spot.

It was a win-win situation. Evan Keller and the others no longer had to worry about being held up.

Heath Hale and Barry Quinn quickly followed her.

Beau froze for a few seconds, then grabbed her paper and pen and trailed after Heath Hale and the others.

Heath Hale, who was about to close the door, saw Beau hurrying over and paused, waiting for her to enter before shutting it.

"Do your best, but don’t push yourself too hard." Heath Hale knew what Zoe Sawyer was planning. He had seen what she did during the Axeman family murder case.

The toll it took on her that time was much greater than when she usually guided people.

But this case was too vicious and the situation too urgent. They had to solve it as quickly as possible to prevent public panic.

"I suspect this is related to that Old Man Dex from Boss Thorne’s phone. But as for the specifics, we’ll have to investigate carefully after you open the door to confirm the possibility." Heath Hale patted Zoe Sawyer’s shoulder, then pulled Beau back a step, leaving the space to Zoe.

Zoe Sawyer took a deep breath, deciding to start with the pedestrian street.

She remembered the time and place with perfect clarity.

Grasping the doorknob, Zoe began to replay those brief few seconds in her mind.

Once the familiar sensation washed over her, Zoe opened the door. The scene that greeted her was the one she had just seen in the surveillance video.

Her eyes were fixed on the direction from which the suspect would approach.

Having watched the footage multiple times, Zoe knew exactly who would appear and at what second.

So, the instant the suspect appeared, Zoe fought back the discomfort and desperately reached out her hand.

At the very moment the suspect set down the black plastic bag with incredible speed, she yanked the mask off his face, pulling it down to his chin.

An utterly unremarkable face appeared before her.

The man, who had just set the item down, looked puzzled for a moment. He then quickly covered his face and pulled his mask back up.

’What was that?’

’Why did my mask suddenly get pulled down?’

’Could it be that someone in the crowd accidentally yanked it down?’

’But I don’t remember anyone touching me.’

The man couldn’t figure it out, so he pushed the thought aside and quickly left the area.

After the man left, Zoe didn’t close the door right away. Instead, her eyes remained glued to the black plastic bag on the ground and the people around it.

When he had first set it down, she clearly saw several people around the man pause for a fraction of a second.

Only after confirming the item was in place did their bodies relax slightly before they turned and walked off in different directions.

The entire time, they didn’t speak or make eye contact, acting just like ordinary tourists passing through.

Because it all happened so quickly, the team hadn’t noticed anything unusual when watching the surveillance footage.

If she hadn’t lingered for that extra moment, she definitely wouldn’t have spotted this anomaly either.

Once she was sure she hadn’t missed anything, Zoe slammed the door shut and looked at Heath Hale and the others with a grave expression.

"The suspect has accomplices!"
