My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 134: I Want to Report My Accomplices
Chapter 134: Chapter 134: I Want to Report My Accomplices
Evan Keller’s eyes scanned the crowd in the corner and instantly locked onto Anne Dawson, who was trying to intimidate those around her with a menacing glare.
He then strode over and yanked her out of the crowd.
"Anne Dawson, head of The All-Supreme Sect in Varden and the mastermind behind the transport of these drug-laced stamps.
You are under arrest on suspicion of manufacturing, selling, and transporting narcotics; human trafficking; and using a cult to undermine law enforcement, among other crimes." Evan Keller’s eyes were locked on Anne Dawson as he expertly snapped the cuffs on her.
The moment the cold steel of the handcuffs closed around her wrists, Anne Dawson was flooded with regret.
’It’s over... If only I’d grabbed my guns first.’
’If I’d had a real weapon on me, I wouldn’t be in this helpless position!’
’And I should have run at the first opportunity. I shouldn’t have stayed behind, greedy for the things upstairs.’
But the thought of her stamp albums, which filled an entire wardrobe, falling into police hands filled Anne Dawson with indignation.
’Those were my treasured collection!’
’I was going to use them to break into the Varden market. I can’t believe it all went south before it even began. They netted us all in one fell swoop.’
The more she thought about it, the more her heart ached with regret.
"Officer, what are you talking about? We’re all law-abiding citizens here." Anne Dawson didn’t confess, instead clinging to a sliver of hope that she could bluff her way out of it by muddying the waters.
Meanwhile, led by Sean Hughes and a few others, the remaining officers entered in an orderly fashion—aside from those standing guard outside—and began arresting the others still in the living room, leading them out.
Whether they were from the monitoring room or the second floor, they all went along cooperatively.
After all, most of them hadn’t been involved in the manufacturing or sale of drugs.
If they were docile now and cooperated with the investigation, they might make a good impression and receive a lighter sentence later.
Anne Dawson never imagined that her attempt to gather everyone to confuse the police and delay them had instead made it incredibly convenient for them to arrest everyone.
Standing at the top of the stairs, Felix Tate saw Anne Dawson being restrained and feared his own escape plan would be jeopardized.
He pulled a folding knife from his pocket, but just as he was about to grab a hostage, Gavin Owens, who had been watching him the whole time, saw him.
In the next moment, Gavin executed a shoulder throw followed by a small joint lock, completely subduing Felix Tate.
The entire sequence was so smooth and fluid that Howard Irving and the others nearby could only stare, dumbfounded.
They thought about going to help, but seeing the dark muzzles of the guns pointed at them, Howard Irving and the others froze, their half-taken steps halting in place.
’Forget it. My own life is more important.’
’Wait, why did Eagle suddenly attack me? Could he be an undercover cop?!’ The two questions flashed through Felix Tate’s mind, but before he could think it through, the pain shooting up his arm dragged his focus back.
"Eagle, what the hell are you doing?! Let me go!" Felix Tate struggled, trying to break free from Gavin Owens’s grip, and couldn’t stop himself from yelling, "You traitorous bastard!
I’m telling you, even if you betrayed us, you were still part of it! You won’t get a happy ending either!"
As soon as Felix Tate finished speaking, Sean Hughes and the captain of the third squad walked over. They saluted Gavin Owens and said, "Good work, Captain Owens. We’ll take it from here."
They then took Felix Tate from Gavin Owens’s custody.
"Holy shit! You really are an undercover cop!" Felix Tate realized instantly and couldn’t help but curse out loud.
Time was short, and Evan Keller’s team had no time to listen to the curses of Anne Dawson and Felix Tate.
Before being escorted out the door, Anne Dawson stopped in her tracks. Her voice was chilling as she said, "Aren’t you afraid the people behind us will retaliate? They’re far more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
They might be watching you through a camera right now. Want to test that theory?"
Gavin Owens’s expression stiffened. He didn’t care what happened to him, but if what Anne Dawson said was true, wouldn’t his partner and family be in danger?
Before he could say anything, he saw Sean Hughes walk in from outside, carrying a device.
He dangled it in front of Anne Dawson, his tone full of mockery. "Military-grade signal jammer. You deserve the best."
’Forget about online surveillance cameras; you’d be a miracle worker if you could even get a single bar of reception.’
With her last hope extinguished, Anne Dawson’s head hung low. She was led away like a puppet with its strings cut, all her spirit drained from her.
The larger group of suspects had already been taken back to the station in batches. The few who remained were the core members.
One could only imagine the fate awaiting the core members of a drug manufacturing and trafficking organization disguised as a cult. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ
This was also the main reason why Sean Hughes and the others had directly revealed Gavin Owens’s identity as an undercover officer.
"Captain Keller, a man just stuffed a USB drive into my hand. Said he wanted to redeem himself and hoped this would get him a lighter sentence.
A woman also told us to pay special attention to the innermost room on the second floor." A junior officer jogged over, handed the USB drive in an evidence bag to Evan Keller, and relayed the messages.
"I understand," Evan Keller said with a nod, acknowledging the information.
The innermost room on the second floor... Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn had mentioned it to him before.
They said the people living on the second floor would subconsciously avoid it, which meant there was likely something inside that frightened them.
Evan Keller led his team in a sweep of the building’s courtyard and a ten-meter radius around it. Only after confirming nothing was missed did they turn their focus to the four-story house itself.
When they searched the second floor and discovered cameras in all four corners of the room, along with various obscene props, Evan Keller nodded in sudden understanding.
’Looks like we’ll be adding the charge of filming and distributing indecent videos.’
By the time they had searched all four floors from top to bottom, inside and out—without even sparing the ground beneath—it was already noon the next day.
After confirming there were no loose ends, Evan Keller and Sean Hughes led their teams away and returned to the Varden West Precinct.
This operation could be called a massive success. At the very least, the evidence they had collected was enough to sentence Anne Dawson and the others to death hundreds of times over.
Although the main force had withdrawn, a small unit was left behind to guard the scene.
This was to prevent anyone from coming to tamper with anything.
By the time Evan Keller returned to the precinct, most of the interrogations had been conducted and statements taken.
Only the few toughest nuts to crack remained.
Anne Dawson’s eyes were bloodshot as she stared intently at the interrogation room door.
It had been over ten hours since she was brought in!
For eleven hours, she’d been given no water, and whenever she showed the slightest sign of closing her eyes to rest, the officer sitting in front of her would slam the table to jolt her awake.
If she didn’t get some sleep soon, she was going to collapse!
’The cop guarding me even gets to work in shifts, so why can’t I get even a moment of sleep?!’
But from last night until now, Anne Dawson hadn’t seen Evan Keller or any of the other lead officers walk in.
’That’s it!’
’Report them! If I make a report, someone will have to come!’
This thought flashed through Anne Dawson’s mind, along with the memory of Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn’s voices. Her own voice suddenly rose, laced with a hint of excitement.
"I want to make a report! I want to report my accomplices! Get your leader in here to see me!"
