After a moment of silence, a voice said, "Miss Thorne has been to the Hawthorne Family, so she should know by now they are looking for something. The item in your possession is what they’re searching for. Therefore, Miss Thorne, you must keep it safe at this time, and under no circumstances let it be exposed. Only reveal it after Commander Hawthorne’s burial; I will then step forward to tell everyone the truth."

"Why give it to me? There are so many people in the Hawthorne Family, is there nobody he regards highly?"

Melody Thorne finally understood—she had been unwittingly dragged into this.

"Miss Thorne, I am deeply sorry for not informing you beforehand, but we had no other choice. Commander Hawthorne did not want his family to tear each other apart over military power. You saved his life, and your background is strong enough that even if the Hawthorne brothers found out, they wouldn’t dare act against you."

Melody Thorne "..."

"Miss Thorne, with Commander Hawthorne having just passed away, he will be laid to rest in a few days. Please, be the kind person he knew you to be, and let him rest in peace," Adjutant Chaucer said insincerely.

To know this is something so many powerful people have sought in vain.

"I’ll hang up for now. If there’s anything, I’ll contact you," Melody Thorne hung up the phone, her legs weak. She moved to sit down but instead found herself settling onto a pair of leather shoes.

Turning around, Jared Quinn’s handsome face was right above her.

Melody Thorne "..."

"Who were you calling?" His gaze traveled from her fair face down to her phone and then to the other item in her palm.

In her snow-white, jade-like palm lay an object, identical to the one in the drawing.

Jared Quinn narrowed his eyes.

Melody Thorne stood up and opened her hand, "I told you when I was in the study that this object is in my possession."

Jared Quinn extended his long, beautiful fingers to take it, "Did Weston Hawthorne give this to you?"

"Yes, at first I didn’t know. He said he wasn’t going to make it, so he gave it to me. It wasn’t until just now that I found out what it was for. I don’t know if it’s real or fake."

"It’s real," Jared Quinn said with certainty.

"If it’s real, then I’ll hold onto it for now. Weston didn’t want the Hawthorne family to fight over it; it’s his dying wish. I can’t just give it back now, can I?"

"Since he gave it to you, keep it," Jared Quinn handed it back to her.

"You agree I should keep it?"

"Mm," Jared Quinn embraced her, lowered his head, and kissed her on the lips.

Melody Thorne couldn’t help but lift her head, forced to endure it.

The temperature in the bedroom kept rising.

"Young master, ma’am, dinner is ready. You can come out to eat now," the butler knocked on the door from the outside.

"Hmm, hmm, let’s eat first, shall we?"

"Let them wait a moment," Jared Quinn pressed her down, leaning her towards the large bed.

"Why aren’t they coming down yet?" Timmy tapped his chopsticks on the table, wondering if they didn’t know it was time to eat? Mr. Butler, did you call them or not, did they hear you? Did you tell them that their most cherished treasure is waiting below to eat with them?"

The butler said, "The young master and madam might have some things to discuss, young master Timmy, please go ahead and eat first."

Timmy glowered at the upstairs room, angrily thumping his chopsticks, "No, I’m definitely waiting for them to come down and eat with me."
