Chapter 108: Sol Family’s Visit
The development of the human settlement went as expected.
With the goblins’ riot over, the adventurers and mercenaries who had gathered in an attempt to strike it rich began to leave.
Within only a few days, the once-boisterous city was left in ruins. No one visited it, and everyone had scattered.
This was only the natural course of events.
A city formed in a few days had also been destroyed in a few days. It was strangely poetic.
Aurelius did not have the luxury of witnessing this happen.
From the very first day after the Goblin Warlock’s death, he had already left the human settlement and the northern border as a whole.
When he glanced at the villages, which were still somewhat chaotic but whose villagers now held faint hope in their eyes, he subconsciously smiled.
Yet as soon as he entered the city, that smile quickly faded away.
The noise entered his ears.
Footsteps. Rushing carriages. Shouts from the peddlers.
Compared to the chaotic but simpler border, Blood Sun City appeared far calmer on a day-to-day basis.
However, Aurelius knew that the city simply represented another type of chaos.
That of humans.
He sighed.
After refusing the offers from nearby carriages asking whether he wanted a ride, Aurelius began walking through the city.
From the entrance to his destination, it took him just short of a quarter of an hour.
Soon, a large estate entered his sight. Two guards stood on either side of the entrance, carefully observing the nearby pedestrians.
When they saw someone approach, they instinctively wanted to drive them away.
But upon seeing his identity, they immediately swallowed the words they were about to say.
"Young Lord!" they shouted in unison as they performed a respectful salute.
Aurelius nodded in acknowledgment.
Having spent so many days in Nova Roma, he no longer found this situation strange, even though it would have been outlandish in his previous life.
He simply waved his hand, gesturing for them to get up. In the meantime, he had already walked into the estate.
Initially, he believed he would see a large number of patrolling guards and maids tending to the garden.
Yet surprisingly, he found nothing.
Aurelius raised his eyebrows, a trace of curiosity flashing across his face.
He knew that this was not natural. Something must have happened.
Indeed. When he approached the main mansion, the sound of arguing voices reached his ears.
One of them he could recognize. As for the other, it was somewhat familiar, but he was unable to pinpoint its owner’s identity.
As for the topic of the argument:
Family. Letter. Order.
Several words echoed in Aurelius’ ears, giving him a rough understanding of what was happening.
He didn’t hesitate.
Pushing open the door, he walked into the mansion.
Instantly, the two "warring" parties entered his vision.
A beautiful woman in her early thirties stood there, with blue eyes that resembled his own. Unlike the usual expression she wore, she now looked furious, her knuckles turning white from anger.
Opposite her stood an elderly man dressed in black and white attire. He looked strangely serene but solemn.
Faced with the woman’s anger, he showed no reaction, maintaining a polite smile.
The man was also the first to notice Aurelius’ arrival. He looked at him, somewhat intrigued.
On the other hand, the blonde woman only noticed him after seeing the man’s reaction.
Following the man’s gaze, she found Aurelius standing in the doorway, looking at them with curiosity.
The fury in her heart subsided. Or at the very least, she tried to hide it.
Her white knuckles showed that she was far from truly calming down.
"Aurelius, you’ve finally returned." She forced a smile onto her face as she walked closer and offered him a hug.
Elena truly looked like a mother who was meeting her son after a long absence.
Yet Aurelius noticed that this was not true.
The moment she touched him, a voice echoed directly inside his mind.
"Go back to your room. You don’t have to worry. I’ll deal with the matters of the family by myself."
It was gentle and easily recognizable.
It belonged to Elena, who was currently hugging him.
Aurelius was a little surprised at first. But upon remembering the strange Relic in her possession, he felt it made sense.
Even so, he didn’t rush to do as he was asked.
Her words and the conversation he had managed to overhear had already given him a rough understanding of what was happening.
At the same time, the elderly man in front of him became increasingly familiar.
In the end, a name surfaced in his mind.
Arthur!
His father’s butler and right-hand man!
Aurelius had met him during the few banquets he had attended in the Imperial Capital, but due to their few encounters, he had failed to recognize him instantly.
’Is this matter related to the Sol family? Or rather, my father?’
Aurelius was intrigued.
He finally understood why his mother had been so angry.
She had always been angry when faced with the Sol family.
After all, the two had all but been exiled to a small border city.
Even if Elena did not care about her own situation, the discrimination Aurelius had suffered had pained her greatly.
She knew it was her own fault, as well as his father’s.
That was also why she had been willing to indulge Aurelius so much, letting him remain an ordinary playboy without any ambition at all. He hadn’t even become an Awakener despite being the son of an Earl.
Countless thoughts raced through Aurelius’ mind.
Glancing at his mother, who was gesturing with her eyes for him to leave, her voice constantly echoing in his mind, and then at Arthur, the Sol family’s butler, Aurelius paused for a brief moment.
Then, he smiled faintly.
Pushing Elena’s hands off his body to escape her grasp, he took a few steps forward and opened his mouth to speak.
"I wonder what’s the matter. Why are you arguing so early in the morning?" He waved his hand dismissively.
"How about you tell me? I’m sure I might be able to offer a solution."
Silence shrouded the room.
Elena’s face turned pale. She wanted to say something.
But before she could open her mouth, Arthur spoke up before her.
