“It’s already been two months?!”

Anput’s groan made me chuckle as I nodded, not looking up from my book and continuing to enjoy this rather raunchy tale of a Human woman that was sold away to a Wolfkin Pack to help satisfy their urges… before eventually returning to slaughter her family with her newfound Mates.

Plot mixed with ’plot’ existed even in this world, so without much else to do I found myself a collection of these sorts of books to help pass the time, especially since things out here on the ’frontier’ were slow and peaceful.

Nothing happened anymore for some reason or another, and while part of me was antsy and anticipating something simply because I thought that thought, most of me was happy since it meant I could spend all this time with my pups.

They were growing larger with every single day that passed us by, and their growth was a bit drastic since now – at almost half a year of age – they were already walking around saying a few words, though they still preferred to spend their time on all fours growling and snarling at one another.

Having five toddlers waddling around causing trouble was exhausting, but at the same time it ensured that every single day was something new since they were all absolutely determined to be little hellions.

Mother was extremely helpful here, and surprisingly Lady Kio was as well, the lithe Dogkin woman coming around rather frequently to see her plethora of grandbabies while also taking this opportunity to proudly proclaim that Gabrielle was far more elegant and refined than my pups, ’rubbing’ that in Mother’s face constantly.

Whenever Mother reminded her that the pups all looked like Anput more and tended to ’act’ like their Mom instead of me, Lady Kio just scrunched her nose and told Mother that she was making things up because she didn’t like knowing that she was wrong.

I continued to ignore them whenever they got into it, which was the reason I was currently upstairs lounging in a comfortable rocking chair with a book in my hands, though I hadn’t been able to remain alone for long since Anput came up to find me.

“Two months… and I can’t do anything about this until next month? Seriously?”

My Mate was gently smacking the clump of excess fat that rested on her belly, acting like she was severely overweight and unhealthy instead of being just a bit curvier than normal; what she had right now was barely considered a belly, yet Anput constantly acted like it was so much worse.

“Yup.”

“What about you?”

That made me pause, my eyes drifting off of the pages describing the very fascinating scene of that Human woman getting triple knotted and landing on my Mate, who just stared at me inquisitively as she awaited an answer.

“What about me?”

Finally sensing that something was a bit off because of her question, Anput pursed her lips and stared at me for a second longer before she turned away and sighed, which I thought meant she was going to leave it at that… but instead she asked “So when are you going to get back into shape?”

I looked up from my book again and stared at her, not saying anything and just observing her cooly as I took in the various twitches of her eyes, ears and lips as she tried to keep a still face… only to fail miserably a few seconds later.

“That came out wrong…”

“Did it?”

She nodded her head rapidly and quickly said “I meant it in a different way, I promise! I was wondering when you were going to be ready to go on a hunt again! Just the other day you were complaining that you’ve gotten ’dull’, so I was just wondering when you’d want to hone yourself again?”

I hummed softly and continued to stare at her, enjoying the way she squirmed beneath my cold stare for a few seconds longer before I asked “But were you not just telling me last night that you wanted me like this for a little while longer?”

“I… yes, yes I was. You are unbelievably sexy right now, Kat, but also I really miss my Murderpuppy, y’know? It’s been… wow, it’s been like a year since I last saw you caked in blood and gore… damn…”

That made me cock a brow slightly as I continued to stare at her, though at the same time I couldn’t blame her since it really had been a year since I had last gone on a bit of a bloodthirsty rampage… though…

“Haven’t really had the time nor the energy for it, now have I?”

She tilted her head at that, and for a second I thought I was going to have to explain to my Mate that having five pups constantly yearning for your attention and affection meant you weren’t able to do the things you normally wanted, but she nodded not that long after.

“I guess so. But still, are YOU fine with everything?”

I thought it over for a second before shrugging, replying “I don’t see why I shouldn’t be. They take everything out of me anyways, and whatever I have left the three of you then take from me and then some. I don’t really have extra energy to spare towards… anything, really.”

Leaning back and enjoying the fading sunlight, I sighed and added “Besides, with how everything’s been… though I guess that right there is the reason I should get back to training, isn’t it? We’ve had it good for too long…”

Anput hummed in agreement to that, turning her gaze out towards the city and murmuring “Though we happen to have a very strong and intelligent protector to keep us safe…” while I smirked and added “A protector who’s expecting a really energetic Jackalkin tonight~!”

She just laughed and flopped down across my lap, rolling around to get comfortable and turning to read my book with me, which immediately had my Mate raising a brow as she asked “Kat, is that..?” like she didn’t know the answer already.
