Chapter 2952: Chapter 983: Dog Murphy Wants to Open Treasure Chests Too! (2)
Damn!
Fighting merfolk isn’t something us pirates should be doing."
As Babro complained and whined, the Werewolf Players on the seven ships were expressing their opinions about the recent attack in their player channel. Of course, these views were all centered on the disparagement and stereotypes of these "merfolk" creatures.
This was the first time the player community had encountered the Wave Fishmen.
They had only heard before that many places in the Misty Sea had troubles with merfolk. And now these slain guys indeed matched the common perception of marine creatures.
Sticky scales, streamlined bodies, swimming with webbed feet and fins in a bizarre way, strange patterns, and fish eyes that emitted an eerie glow, full of small, jagged teeth similar to a seven-gilled eel.
Although they were humanoid, their bizarre spines made it difficult for them to stand upright, always hunched over. Coupled with the poisonous spikes on their backs, these guys looked extremely sleazy and weird, invoking a kind of "biological alienation" fear that definitely didn’t bring any comfort or joy.
It’s also worth mentioning that although these Wave Fishmen were always hunched, their body was no different from a normal human. Beneath the scales, they had exaggerated muscles and naturally poisonous and cursed black claws, which gave them an advantage against ordinary people.
"Damn ugly! Even uglier than Gnolls, making Ratmen look clean and delicate in comparison."
The head of the Soul-Stealer Family, a Werewolf Curse Mage from the Pestilence Clan, known as "Evil Old King", squatted on the ground, dissecting the gills of the Wave Fishman in front of him with a scalpel. He complained to his brothers:
"The stench of this thing is remarkable. Just dead, yet smells like rotten fish left in the sun for days, it’s disgusting. But compared to the croaking merfolk we imagined, this thing is more like the Deep Ones from the tales of Lovecraft."
"What are you doing, isn’t it disgusting!"
The Head Lion Beast beside him saw Lao Xie cutting off a blood-stained fish gill and examining it closely, and couldn’t help but fake a gag, saying with disdain:
"Just throw these things back into the sea. I heard from the pirates on the ship that Wave Fishmen use all sorts of evil magic, and their corpses carry strange pollutants and parasites. Be careful not to catch anything because we don’t have a Priest to cleanse you."
"Calm down, I’m an elite Curse Mage. If I could be polluted by such parasites, then haven’t my months of learning curses gone to waste?"
Evil Old King waved his hand nonchalantly, swaying his tail:
"The game has opened up the sea navigation and trade system, which shows that the developers are encouraging players to explore the world’s oceans. If the Wave Fishmen are the main antagonistic species in the Misty Sea, then how can we resist them more effectively without researching them?
Instead of whining, why not help me dissect this thing? At the very least, I have to figure out their skeletal structure and vital points so that our brothers and sisters venturing into the sea aren’t at a loss.
Look, their gills are one of the most obvious weaknesses, with so many intersecting nerves inside. If punched hard, these guys would probably faint from the pain."
"Yuck~"
Seeing Lao Xie seriously analyzing the merfolk’s corpse, several Werewolf Players near the Head Lion Beast couldn’t handle it anymore, especially when Lao Xie muttered to himself, slicing open the fishman’s abdomen and pulling out a heart-like organ for examination. Even the brave young player, who claimed to be bold enough to play kiss games with Sadako, turned his head and gagged.
The scene was too intense.
The Head Lion Beast felt a bit jittery too.
He watched Evil Old King, cross-legged on the ground, fascinated by the dissection and muttering to himself, and instantly felt this guy definitely wasn’t an ordinary person. So, he took out a pack of tobacco and two pipes with respect, and quietly asked:
"What do you do, bro?"
"Hmm, a doctor."
Evil Old King replied without turning his head:
"I specifically deal with the dead. Anyway, I’m a bit hungry. Could you fetch me a few meat buns? I want to eat while I work."
Saying that, Evil Old King whisked out one of the fishman’s eyeballs with a deft flick of his scalpel, turning back to stare at him with eerie eyes, making the Head Lion Beast unable to hold it, covering his mouth and rushing out.
Alright, it seems being a forensic doctor isn’t something just anyone can handle, no wonder Evil Old King fits right in with the Pestilence Clan, who are known for their crazy experiments. Turned out, he’s truly a professional.
"Tsk, what a coward, not afraid of living merfolk but afraid of dead ones... Hard to comprehend, it’s as laughable as murderers afraid of vengeful ghosts."
Evil Old King watched the Werewolf Players dispersing around him.
A smug smile appeared on his wolf face; his series of actions were intentional. He didn’t like having people around watching and asking all sorts of questions while he worked.
Mainly due to professional habits.
Just like Ya Ya, who is a member of an archaeological team in reality; in such special work environments, if there was really a voice beside you asking questions at length, then... it would mean things were really getting troublesome.
The forensic doctor was humming a spooky tune, dissecting the merfolk while recording all sorts of information in his Calculating Pearl. He planned to organize it and post it on the forums. This wasn’t his first time doing such work; he had previously done similar dissection records for Werewolves, Gnolls, Ratmen, and Goat Men.
