Chapter 2951: Chapter 983: Even Dog Murphy Wants to Open the Treasure Chest!
The sudden attack by the Wave Fishmen caught Captain Pablo off guard. Under normal circumstances, facing such a large-scale attack by Merfolk, the seven pirate ships would likely suffer some losses even if they managed to win.
After all, no matter how skilled pirates are in aquatic battles, they are at a disadvantage against Merfolk who naturally live in the sea and have a massive numerical advantage.
However, with the aid of the Grey Wolf Army and the players, things were different. When the Wave Fishmen charged onto the deck with fierce cries, they were met with wild slaughter from the Dark Mountain Range.
To show sincerity, Hog sent Werewolf Players to support the Half-body Men, and they were all Guardians of Creation. As for the players, with Boboke’s five hundred Construct Warriors clad in Shadow Wolf exoskeletons, they could easily defeat multiples of themselves against the Wave Fishmen.
After all, Merfolk’s combat prowess is notably weak even among supernatural creatures, ranking at the bottom.
They annually compete with Ghouls, Skeleton Warriors, and Gnolls for the lowest positions on the "Monster Strength Hierarchy," firmly holding the spot for the worst.
While they possess various evil arts, their individual fighting ability is pathetically subpar, which is understandable. When relying on overwhelming numbers, quality is hard to achieve.
Even fantastic creatures must adhere to such fundamental biological concepts.
In short, the Merfolk thought they had stumbled upon easy prey, unaware they had stepped into the Blood Fear Clan’s trap, falling for Captain Pablo’s cunning deceit.
Wave after wave, they charged the deck only to be wiped out, and by the tenth minute of battle, the green blood on the Raider’s deck was thick enough to be nauseating. Upon the Bloody Captain’s orders, the Vampire Pirates released their tried-and-true method against the Merfolk.
Black deep-sea bombs were dropped into the ocean, and amidst dull explosions, stinking sea water erupted under the fierce winds on the surface. Merfolk acting collectively underwater couldn’t escape the deep-sea bombs’ impact easily. The Blood Fear Pirates have dealt with Merfolk for over a hundred years, knowing well how to handle these savage sea tribes.
The deep-sea bombs they used contained certain alchemical substances, turning the seawater a bizarre crimson upon detonation. Any Merfolk inhaling this water became disoriented and their bodies paralyzed.
Unable to control their movements, they consequently drowned in masses...
Don’t laugh!
This tactic works precisely because Merfolk breathe through gills. If the gill muscles convulse and paralyze, the results are catastrophic.
Of course, these special deep-sea bombs can at most repel the Merfolk. Those creatures move swiftly underwater, skillfully dodging the crimson zones.
According to Captain Pablo’s experience, Merfolk, cowardly as they are, would retreat after suffering losses, unless they deployed strange sea beasts. However, the ships’ cannons were ready, and harpoon guns specially designed to hunt sea beasts were also brought out, depriving the Merfolk of any advantage.
Realizing they couldn’t defeat the seven ships, the savage sea tribes retreated after suffering casualties, as per Pablo’s stereotypical expectations of them.
Nonetheless, the Bloody Captain’s expression was grim.
He used his spyglass to survey the surrounding sea. Across the waters, the "Black Tide" moved towards deeper waters, its undulating waves sending chills down this veteran of the Misty Sea for over a hundred years.
"The quantity... seems atypical."
Next to Captain Pablo, the First Mate whipped her fiery red hair disdainfully while wiping her sailor’s knife, saying to her captain:
"There are at least two Elder Clans of Merfolk nearby. Judging by their disciplined actions, I suspect a mysterious filthy ’Daguan Holy Child’ could be involved. They swiftly interfered with ocean currents and summoned storms, which makes me think Abyss Walkers from the Hidden Worship of Daguan might be behind this.
But the real question is, why are they here?"
"It’s hard to tell, but if forced to give an answer, I think it might be related to the incidents at Charldo Harbor."
Captain Pablo set down his spyglass and rubbed his brow, feelings of unease bubbling up from the depths of his soul. He whispered:
"Claire, is there a possibility that these Merfolk are assisting the Werewolf’s assault on the Half-body city on land?"
"You think they’ve allied? That’s impossible!"
Claire frowned and replied:
"The Hidden Worship of Daguan has always been active in the Savage Seas of the Misty Sea. Their main enemies are the Mermaids, and us next. I’ve never heard of any connections between these guys and the Werewolf’s Black Disaster."
"Previously there was none, but now it might be possible."
The Bloody Captain squinted at the deck behind him, where Werewolf Players indulged in the killing spree, wading through the green viscous blood, finishing off the surviving Merfolk.
"Hurry to that small island and find the ’treasure’ Murphy spoke of, then we head straight to Charldo Harbor."
The Duke of Blood Fear said seriously:
"I need to meet Murphy soon to inform him of these developments. The Hidden Worship of Daguan’s reach is extending towards the Continent, which isn’t good from any perspective. Also, we need to figure out a way to alert the Castilla Elves. They should deploy their invincible Armastasha Fleet quickly and send every last Wave Fishman from this sea sky-high!"
