My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building
Chapter 488: Netherworld Town
“You’re as incredible as they say, Venerable Chu Feng. I never gave you the specific address, yet you found this place all on your own. Truly remarkable,” the Netherworld Sect Elder said to Chu Feng with a smile.
He then led Chu Feng downward.
The scenery along the way was rather grim. After a walk of about ten minutes, they reached the end of the long passageway.
The sight that greeted him next left Chu Feng utterly stunned.
‘What is this?’
Before him was a small city, roughly the size of a town.
And it was an underground city!
‘This Netherworld Sect is incredible. They hollowed out the earth to build an underground city here. And you can tell just by looking that it can house a lot of people. At least tens of thousands. It might even be able to hold over a hundred thousand. He couldn’t even see the entirety of the town from where he stood.’
“The Netherworld Sect truly is formidable. This is an incredible undertaking,” Chu Feng exclaimed with sincere admiration.
“Hahaha! To receive praise from Venerable Chu Feng is a true honor for our Netherworld Sect! Back in the day, it took two hundred thousand people ten years of work to create this place. This is how the Netherworld Sect of today came to be,” the Netherworld Sect Elder said with a booming laugh.
He was beaming with pride as he spoke.
A feat like the Netherworld Sect’s was unique in the entire Martial Arts Realm. Who else could mobilize two hundred thousand people for ten years just to build an underground city?
Take the Seven Kills Sword Sect on Great Snow Mountain, for example. The Seven Kills Sword Sect was also incredibly grand, having built massive palace after massive palace on a snow mountain thousands of meters high. That was no easy feat.
Only the major Sects could accomplish such a thing. Ordinary Sects simply didn’t have the resources. It was utterly impossible for them.
“Venerable Chu Feng, let’s head to the Netherworld Hall. The other Elders are waiting for you,” the Netherworld Sect Elder said with a smile.
To Chu Feng, this place was truly bizarre; he hadn’t expected there to be a Netherworld Hall as well.
‘It gave him the creeps. These people are such deviants. They’re perfectly normal living beings, yet they insist on creating all this stuff from the underworld. In his opinion, these guys probably had some serious mental problems. Maybe they were all insane.’
“You have a Netherworld Hall here? Don’t tell me you have all the other places related to the Netherworld, too?” Chu Feng couldn’t help but ask.
“Of course we do,” the Netherworld Sect Elder said, smiling.
Hearing this, Chu Feng was once again rendered speechless.
They continued downward, walking through the town.
Along the way, many people bowed respectfully upon seeing the Netherworld Sect Elder. They held the man in high esteem.
‘This guy’s status really is high,’ Chu Feng mused.
‘A person’s life… it’s all just a chase for four things: money, power, fame, and fortune. But what’s the point of it all? It’s like a flower in a mirror or the moon’s reflection in water—all an illusion. Some people will stop at nothing for fame and fortune, only to be left with endless regret in the end. All the fame, fortune, money, and power you accumulate—you can’t take a single bit of it with you when you die. As the saying goes: You can’t take anything with you; only your karma follows. These are things you don’t bring with you at birth and can’t take with you in death. So why bother? Why take it so seriously? Why be so attached? Just as the Diamond Sutra says: All with form is unreal. All conditioned phenomena are like a dream, an illusion, a bubble, a shadow, like dew and like lightning; you should contemplate them thus. Although many people understand this principle, they still fall into the trap, getting caught up in the game, becoming so addicted they can’t break free.’
As they ventured deeper into Netherworld Town, their surroundings grew increasingly grim and eerie.
But for someone like Chu Feng, there was nothing to fear. A man who wouldn’t even flinch at a Thunder Tribulation—why would he be afraid of this child’s play?
After another ten minutes or so of walking, a great hall appeared before Chu Feng.
The hall was adorned with white lanterns, casting a light so grim and strange it would give anyone goosebumps.
At the entrance, several Netherworld Sect disciples stood guard, their faces hidden by masks.
The masks these men wore depicted ferocious monsters, a terrifying sight to behold. An ordinary person would be scared out of their wits here—they’d probably drop dead from fright.
“Venerable Chu Feng, this way, please,” the Netherworld Sect Elder said to Chu Feng.
Without ceremony, Chu Feng nodded and walked inside.
Though he appeared perfectly calm, his Divine Soul Power hadn’t rested for a moment. He kept it extended, probing his surroundings and taking in every detail.
Inside the Netherworld Hall were eight experts. All of them were immensely powerful, and their auras were terrifying.
However, as soon as Chu Feng stepped inside, all eight of them greeted him with a respectful cry: “Venerable Chu Feng!”
Clearly, these people were treating Chu Feng with the utmost courtesy.
Seeing this, Chu Feng returned the courtesy with a smile. “Greetings, Elders.”
“Venerable Chu Feng, please, take a seat,” one of the Netherworld Sect Elders seated on the dais said.
Chu Feng didn’t stand on ceremony and sat down immediately, waiting to see what they had to say.
