Chapter 131 - 130: Giant Rock Golem
Chapter 131: Chapter 130: Giant Rock Golem
The rest of the battle devolved into a one-sided slaughter, the outcome a foregone conclusion.
The surviving goblins broke completely. They dropped their weapons, let out terrified screams, and scattered in all directions.
But the goblins’ fate was already sealed. Any that tried to flee from the rear were picked off one by one by Rivaya, who was lying in ambush.
On the front lines, even Marcus, Valles, and Gray slowed their pursuit.
With a tacit understanding, they formed an encirclement, herding the dozen or so remaining goblins into the center. They deliberately left some alive to give the Magic Apprentices in the squad some practice.
Lante was doing fine. After the ordeal of the Kobold quest, he wasn’t nearly as timid.
A sharp Ice Cone condensed at the tip of his staff, then lanced out, precisely piercing a goblin’s head.
After his first successful kill, Lante’s confidence surged. He went on to kill several more goblins that tried to counterattack.
On the other side, Bev and Yanni gritted their teeth, fought to overcome their inner turmoil, and cast spells to kill two goblins.
It was worth noting that Yanni used a type of Wood Element Magic.
Several plant spikes, as thick as spears, violently erupted from the soft ground.
They tore through a goblin’s body from below, hoisting it high into the air.
Dark green blood trickled down the thorns. The scene was shockingly gruesome.
A prompt from Technique Celestial Calculation appeared on his data panel, right on cue.
Thorn Technique, Analysis Progress—5%
Soon, as the dying wail of the last goblin faded, the battle was over.
The Goblin Community: annihilated!
A thick, coppery stench filled the air. The forest clearing was littered with goblin blood and severed limbs.
"All done."
Zelir clapped his hands together, casually sheathing Night Peace at his waist.
He turned to check on his squadmates, only to find Yanni bent over.
She was leaning against a tree trunk, retching for a long while. Nothing came up, but her face was deathly pale.
After all, such a scene was overwhelming for a rookie experiencing their first taste of real carnage.
"Can’t handle this?"
A teasing smile played on Zelir’s lips.
"If this were a normal mission, you’d have to go over and cut off the goblins’ ears as proof of completion."
"You... Stop making jokes..." Yanni’s stomach churned, and she retched a few more times.
Bev didn’t look much better, but she at least managed to keep her composure.
She averted her gaze, forcing herself not to look at the gory scene.
"Alright, alright, little ones."
Instructor Lena walked out from the woods behind them. "You did well. At least you all had the guts to fight."
A gust of wind swept through the trees, and the foul, coppery stench made even Lena wrinkle her nose.
"Tsk. What a stench."
She snapped her fingers lightly.
The next second, Flames sprang from thin air, precisely igniting every goblin corpse simultaneously.
The blaze spread rapidly, its temperature incredibly high. Soon, it had incinerated all the filth, leaving behind only small piles of ash. Even the bloodstains on the ground were completely vaporized.
The entire process was clean and efficient.
"Much better," Lena said, nodding in satisfaction.
Manlin also walked over slowly from the rear.
Seeing the state Yanni and Bev were in, she just smiled gently and tapped the air with a slender finger.
A fresh floral scent drifted out, quickly replacing the lingering, acrid smell of burning.
Zelir sniffed the air and realized the scent was similar to the one in Manlin’s office.
Then, two soft lights appeared at Manlin’s fingertips and flew toward Bev and Yanni.
As the green light entered their bodies, a gentle energy soothed their stress responses.
Bev and Yanni’s turbulent thoughts calmed considerably, and Yanni’s persistent retching gradually subsided.
Under Technique Celestial Calculation, three more Magic spells were added to the analysis queue.
Flame Control Skill, Analysis Progress—4%
Calm Mind Skill, Analysis Progress—5%
Aromatherapy, Analysis Progress—5%
’Not bad...’
Zelir nodded slightly.
’I’ve learned some more practical Magic.’
"Everyone, rest for a while before we move on," Lena said.
The group members each found a place to sit down and rest.
Bev sat down next to Zelir with her waterskin and sighed softly.
"I never realized going on a mission would be this tough..."
’It’s so much more terrifying than I imagined.’
"It’s your first time, so that’s normal. You’ll get used to it."
Zelir took a sip of water. "You get used to most things over time."
Meanwhile, Lena walked over to the Third Squad.
"Did you all learn something? That’s how you fight Demons. As long as you focus your fire and take out their leader first, the remaining grunts will quickly break."
The members of the Third Squad nodded lightly, but their faces were still pale, their eyes filled with apprehension and self-doubt.
Clearly, they couldn’t adapt to such brutal carnage so quickly.
During the break, Zelir took out a map and spread it open, his finger slowly tracing their planned route.
"According to our planned route, the next Demon we’re supposed to clear out is..."
"What is it?" Gray asked, leaning over curiously.
"A Giant Rock Golem," Zelir said.
The name made the atmosphere grow tense.
The Giant Rock Golem, a very powerful [Difficulty] rated Demon, and one that was accompanied by many followers.
According to Instructor Lena, it was time for the squads to rotate.
Zelir, however, was hesitant.
’If I can take down the Giant Rock Golem, I’ll definitely get a ton of Experience Points... I might even be able to get straight to Level Twelve.’
After a moment of thought, Zelir made his decision.
He looked at his three squadmates.
"How about... our Fourth Squad handles this next Demon Creature Community as well?"
"Huh?"
Yanni frowned slightly. "Aren’t we supposed to rotate with the Third Squad? By rights, it should be their turn."
"An opportunity for Monster Hunting like this is rare. I want to accumulate as much high-intensity combat experience as I can," Zelir said.
"Okay by me! I don’t have a problem with it!"
Lante was full of enthusiasm.
The sense of accomplishment from killing a goblin with his own hands hadn’t faded yet.
Besides, while Bev and Yanni had been sick to their stomachs, Lante had handled it quite well, with no such reaction.
"No way! I’m exhausted..."
Before Yanni could finish her protest, Bev clamped a hand over her mouth, muffling her words into "MMPH, MMPH, MMPH."
"Sure, Yanni and I are fine with it," Bev said with a smile.
"It’s fine. You don’t have to exert yourselves too much."
Zelir added, "It’ll be like last time. Just focus on observing and protecting yourselves. For anything else, just do what you can. I won’t force you."
"We’ll definitely be able to help this time!" Lante declared, puffing out his chest with confidence.
