Chapter 130 - 129: First Battle
Chapter 130: Chapter 129: First Battle
Rivaya, who had been gone, reappeared at Zelir’s side and spoke in a low, raspy voice.
"We’re almost there. The goblin camp is just ahead."
Hearing this, Bev and Yanni immediately tensed up.
’Goblins... Real, actual Demons.’
They had only ever read about such creatures in books, never having seen one with their own eyes.
Zelir turned and glanced at the two of them, speaking in a low voice.
"Everyone on alert. Prepare for battle. Remember what I told you earlier: your first priority is to protect yourselves."
"Mm..." Yanni replied quietly.
"Rivaya, scout the path to the camp one more time for any hidden traps. We can’t afford to walk into an ambush," Zelir said.
"Alright." Rivaya nodded and continued scouting ahead.
As the squad slowed its pace and began to advance with caution, the Third Squad, observing from the rear, also grew vigilant.
Although their leader, Leiden, was a Junior Mage just like Zelir, the nervous beads of sweat on his face exposed his complete lack of experience facing Demons.
Rivaya soon returned to report that the path was clear; he had dismantled a few minor traps along the way.
Zelir led the group, quietly creeping to a small slope that overlooked the area below.
He pushed aside the branches of a bush, and a Goblin Community came into view.
The camp before him was larger than the Goblin Community he had wiped out on his own, and it had even developed into something resembling a crude village.
In the center of the forest clearing stood a hut haphazardly thrown together from rough wood and animal hides.
A wooden pole with the skull of some unknown creature was stuck on the roof, clearly marking it as the goblin chief’s dwelling.
Elsewhere, a dozen or so small lean-tos built from branches and mud were scattered about.
At that moment, several dozen goblins were active in the camp, either sharpening stone tools or cutting up animal hides.
Zelir also saw a few goblins dancing strangely around a pile of stones. The entire camp was filled with an atmosphere of filth and chaos.
Using the bushes for cover, Zelir squinted and carefully counted the number of goblins in the camp.
There were nearly thirty regular goblins scattered about in groups of two and three.
Near the center of the camp were two large Beastman Goblins. For now, he saw no White-haired Goblins or other variants.
When Bev and Yanni saw the ugly, filthy creatures, their faces instantly turned deathly pale.
The goblins’ crude behavior, along with the waves of foul stench drifting from the camp, brought an unconcealable look of disgust and fear to their eyes.
Yanni even took an unconscious half-step back, tightening her grip on Bev’s arm.
Lante, in contrast, had been nervous before the Monster Hunting began, but now that he was truly facing the enemy, his expression grew firm and focused.
To be on the safe side, Zelir asked quietly.
"Rivaya, can you confirm if there are any other goblins in that hut?"
"One moment."
Rivaya crouched low. A faint white vapor emerged and swirled around his body, making his entire figure seem somewhat blurry.
Combined with the cover of the bushes, it would be difficult to spot him even in broad daylight without looking closely.
Rivaya slid silently down the slope alone, like a viper melting into the shadows, and continued to approach the flank of the goblin camp.
At his closest, he was less than ten meters from a goblin at the edge of the camp.
After observing for a moment, Rivaya quietly returned.
"There’s a White-haired Goblin in the hut," Rivaya said.
’So there really is a White-haired Goblin...’ Zelir thought, understanding now.
’It’s almost the same setup as the Mist Cave last time.’
"What’s the plan?" Marcus turned to look at Zelir, waiting for his command.
"The usual."
Zelir’s plan was clear and decisive. "I’ll open with a sneak attack and one-shot a Beastman Goblin. Then you guys just steamroll the rest."
"Then what about the White-haired Goblin?"
Valles asked, "Aren’t we going to lure it out and kill it?"
"No need for all that trouble. This isn’t like the Mist Cave mission."
Zelir’s smile held a cold glint.
"The last White-haired Goblin was in a cave, so we had to lure it out. But this time, it has nowhere to hide."
"Rivaya, circle around to the rear of the camp. When the fighting starts, some goblins might try to run. You’ll be responsible for intercepting them. Don’t let a single one get away."
Since this was his first time teaming up with Zelir, Rivaya wasn’t familiar with his true strength.
Besides, as a member of the Escort Team, Rivaya would have actually preferred to stay by Zelir’s side to protect him.
However, hearing Zelir’s methodical arrangements and seeing that he seemed to have experience successfully wiping out a Goblin Community, Rivaya decided to follow his orders.
"Understood."
Soon, Rivaya had stealthed his way to the rear of the goblin camp, lying in wait for the right moment to strike.
「Behind the slope, farther in the distance.」
Lena watched intently as Zelir laid out his tactics.
"It’s about to start..."
Manlin was also watching with rapt attention, a look of great interest on her face.
With everything in place, blue light began to coalesce at the tip of the Night Peace Staff, dangerous Magic Power brewing quietly.
"Marcus, Valles... don’t touch the other Beastman Goblin. Leave it for me," Zelir said as he charged his spell.
Although they were a little confused, neither of them gave it much thought and readily agreed.
"Alright."
’It’s probably because this Monster Hunting trip is mainly for training,’ they thought. ’Zelir must want to practice his Magic himself.’
"Why didn’t you tell me to hold back?" Gray asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Because you’re not strong enough," Zelir chuckled.
The words had barely left his mouth when the Rhombus Missile finished forming.
It locked onto one of the Beastman Goblins in the camp and shot forth!
"SWOOSH!"
The Arcane Missile’s speed was astonishing, instantly crossing more than half the goblin camp.
Only in the instant before it struck did the dozing Beastman Goblin sense the fatal threat and jerk its head up!
But it was too late.
"BOOM!!!"
The missile struck it squarely in the chest!
The violent explosion instantly drowned out all other sounds in the camp.
More than half of the ferocious-looking Beastman Goblin’s body was torn apart by the Magic Power, sending flesh and bone fragments flying. It died on the spot!
Immediately after, an enraged roar echoed from the bushes on the slope.
"Go!"
After advancing to Middle Level Warrior, Marcus could combine his Battle Cry and roars with his Fighting Qi at will, producing different effects.
He could intimidate or taunt.
This particular roar clearly contained an intimidating effect.
Many of the regular goblins’ legs went weak from the roar, and even their movements became sluggish.
Only the remaining Beastman Goblin managed to resist the intimidation. Its eyes were bloodshot as it grabbed its studded wooden club and charged forward with crazed strides.
"GUK-JI-GAH!"
"Hmph..."
Zelir didn’t even spare the Beastman Goblin a glance; he knew Marcus would block it for him.
At this moment, Zelir’s attention was focused entirely on the wooden hut.
Within his sea of consciousness, the Spell Structure for a second Arcane Missile was already drawn out.
Having been promoted to a Junior Mage, and with the boost from the Night Peace Magic Wand, Zelir finished charging the spell in just over two seconds!
Furthermore, because his Magic Manipulation Level had improved, Zelir could even hold the condensed Arcane Missile for a period without it dissipating, waiting for the enemy to appear before launching a sudden attack!
As expected, there was a commotion in the hut, and then a goblin with a tuft of white hair on its head appeared at the doorway.
But before it could even make sense of the chaos in the camp, a brilliant blue light, brimming with immense Magic Power, rapidly filled its vision as the Arcane Missile swept toward it!
"BOOM!!!"
The White-haired Goblin’s physical durability was far inferior to the Beastman Goblin’s. The only result of taking a fully charged Arcane Missile head-on was complete annihilation!
The dispersing shockwave of Magic Power even caused part of the wooden hut to collapse.
"Phew..."
Zelir breathed a sigh of relief. "All taken care of."
’I’ve annihilated the biggest threats in the camp.’
The squad’s full-scale cleanup operation was now underway. Gray charged forward, sword in hand, cold glints of light flashing amidst the goblins, drawing spurts of fresh blood.
Valles remembered Zelir’s earlier instructions and didn’t use his Thunder Arrow on the remaining Beastman Goblin.
Instead, he targeted the goblins trying to flee to the outskirts, beginning to pick them off with precision.
Marcus was also holding back.
Now a Middle Level Warrior, he wasn’t the least bit intimidated, even when facing a rampaging Beastman Goblin head-on by himself.
The Beastman Goblin swung its studded club with menacing force, but in reality, it couldn’t even break through Marcus’s defense.
It was only because of Zelir’s earlier order that Marcus didn’t launch a fatal attack, instead keeping it firmly pinned in place.
"Marcus!" Zelir’s shout rang out.
Marcus understood immediately. He used Shield Strike to knock back the Beastman Goblin’s attack, then retreated.
The Beastman Goblin was about to give chase when its face was illuminated by a blue light.
A third Arcane Missile!
The Rhombus Missile exploded right in its face, completely obliterating its body from the chest up.
A clean and decisive kill!
The entire camp fell into a deathly silence for a moment.
In less than a minute, the three strongest goblins in the community had all been killed by Zelir!
The regular goblins couldn’t comprehend such terrifying power. Their minds were filled with nothing but horror, and a full-blown rout began.
Killing three Difficult Level Demons in a row also earned Zelir a large amount of Experience Points.
Level 10 (156/325) -> Level 11 (101/350). Level up!
Zelir immediately allocated the four attribute points to Spirit.
Then, just like last time, Magic Contract converted the two extra attribute points, and he added them to agility.
Power: 89 -> 90
agility: 87 -> 88 -> 90
Constitution: 92 -> 93
Spirit: 95 -> 99
Intelligence: 114
Perception: 32
Charm: 54
Lucky: 51
Talent Skills:
Technique Celestial Calculation
Magic Contract
’Hmm, not bad...’
Zelir nodded in satisfaction.
’This Monster Hunting trip is the perfect opportunity to quickly and safely gain a large amount of experience and level up, making steady progress.’
’First, I’ll jack up my Magic Power Strength as soon as possible. After Technique Celestial Calculation has analyzed Four Level Multi-layered Spell Structure Magic, then I’ll consider boosting my Intelligence.’
With the White-haired Goblin and Beastman Goblins dead, only regular goblins remained in the camp, posing no threat whatsoever.
Zelir looked back at his teammates.
"What are you all spacing out for? Now’s the perfect time to strike."
"Oh...!"
Bev finally snapped out of it.
Yanni, however, was still in a daze.
’Unbelievable...’
’Those ferocious-looking Beastman Goblins... Zelir actually killed them just like that...’
