Kim answered the question she had left waiting for three hours.

```
YES. PRE-ACCEPTANCE ATTACHED TO CALEB BEFORE THE PURCHASE SCREEN. SACRIFICIAL STABILITY RANKED MY WILLINGNESS TO PAY FOR HIS ROUTE AS PROOF THE TERM COULD EXTEND. I APPROVED BOTH USES.
```

The asleep-hand claimant read the line twice.

"Did Caleb know?"

Kim had used her permitted response.

Farah found the answer in the code review.

No current-person notice existed before purchase. The public screen showed a sale. Behind it, Kim’s payment had already been treated as evidence that she would preserve Caleb’s route against cancellation, interference, and his own refusal.

Her yandere performance had not created the root.

The root had monetized it.

Kim approved the system because it made obsession valuable as continuity.

The emergency judge kept the examination under claimant control.

The asleep-hand claimant chose the next archive question.

"Who warned her?"

Farah opened review notes.

Two engineers warned that paying for another person’s release could create coercive extensions. A legal reviewer warned that projected households might inherit terms. One marketing director called those risks useful retention.

Kim marked the engineering warnings `edge behavior` and approved a limited launch.

Limited became default after revenue rose.

The asleep-hand claimant asked whether any harmed user had approved the trial.

Farah found internal staff accounts, two paid testers, and no pre-acceptance subject consent. The limited launch referred to volume, not permission.

Another claimant asked whether Kim had ever tried to remove the root.

Archive Eight showed one rollback after a premium viewer’s route attached to a political buyer. Kim restored the root two hours later because cancellations overloaded the stream reserve.

The rollback proved she knew how to disable it. The restoration proved she chose continuity revenue and capacity over ending pre-assigned terms.

The revenue ledger separated uses.

Subscriber penalties paid for route bandwidth during three flood evacuations.

Exclusive Caleb footage paid Kim and two stream partners.

Political buyers paid to keep high-value viewer clusters attached through election weeks.

Private clinics bought household projections to forecast equipment demand.

One function funded rescue, profit, manipulation, and planning. None erased another.

Farah mapped the root without accepting its current action.

It had four layers.

```
ONE: CURRENT RESCUE RECEIPT.
TWO: CURRENT DESTINATION WARRANTY.
THREE: SACRIFICIAL STABILITY.
FOUR: PROJECTED SUCCESSION.
```

The Woman’s corridor had joined all four under one root identifier.

Cutting layer four alone should remove unborn and successor fields.

Room Nine had made layer three depend on layer four. A current holder’s sacrifice counted as stable only if projected succession existed.

Cutting both three and four should preserve current rescue receipts and current addresses.

The code contained a trap.

Current destination warranty renewed through sacrificial stability after every Black Grass strike. Remove layer three, and the next renewal failed.

Private addresses would remain physically present. The corridor connecting them to Night Ground and Room Nine would close.

Farah tested the layers on an isolated copy.

Cutting projected succession removed heartbeat displays and future boxes. Sacrificial-stability scores fell to zero. The copied apartment remained in its current map, but its private lock stopped receiving remote warranty.

Cutting current destination warranty erased the return path and left the apartment address intact. A person inside could use local streets. They could not use the eleven-second corridor back to Night Ground.

Cutting current rescue receipt made the test system question whether the traveler had ever arrived. Farah marked that layer untouchable without separate evidence and removed it from every challenge form.

The team could cut ownership without denying the rescue. They could not keep all the speed that ownership financed.

Pavi looked at the open public street beyond her desk.

"Close mine."

The resident who preferred his river apartment said, "Do not close mine."

Both answers were current.

One root served forty contracts and hundreds of people still in Night Ground.

Farah refused a single root cut.

"We need forty challenges below the shared identifier. Each keeps or releases current warranty separately."

Room Nine denied permission to modify subroots.

The technicians did not need permission to write challenges. They needed a place in the code where current claimant answers could be tested without becoming commands from Kim.

The emergency judge prohibited Kim from touching, signing, or sequencing any challenge. Her device remained sealed. Farah could cite source fields and had to derive each operational step with another technician who had not worked on Archive Eight.

The claimants received live copies. Any one could pause examination if a challenge changed evidence outside its named layers.

Farah found the old cancellation-review port.

Kim had built it for premium users disputing extended terms. The port accepted a current account, named layer, present consequence, and local signer.

It allowed review, not automatic release.

Pavi created the first challenge.

```
CURRENT RESCUE: KEEP.
CURRENT PRIVATE DESTINATION: NONE.
CURRENT CORRIDOR WARRANTY: RELEASE.
SACRIFICIAL STABILITY: RELEASE.
PROJECTED SUCCESSION: RELEASE.
KNOWN CONSEQUENCE: PUBLIC EXIT; NO CLEAN RETURN TO NIGHT GROUND.
```

She signed under her own name.

Farah ran Pavi’s form through the isolated copy first. Current rescue remained. No private room existed to lose. Public exit opened. The clean Night Ground return disappeared.

Pavi watched the test twice.

"If I need to go back for someone?"

"Seventeen-hour route or a new private contract," Kestrel said.

"Then write that on my form."

They added it before submission.

The hotel child kept tomorrow’s room warranty and challenged successor fields. His guardian signed only the current housing support, not his future answer.

Bera kept current clinic warranty until the local wash system and emergency transfer were tested. She challenged projected medical succession now.

The battery worker kept his apartment and released private lock warranty.

The river resident kept all current and projected terms. He filed no challenge.

The six blank-panel residents challenged unallocated collateral without selecting any future function.

Nia filed current-holder acceptance and successor refusal again. Daro filed no release request.

Forty forms did not complete at once.

Some residents wanted translation. Some changed consequence lines after learning their public exit would eliminate a clean return. Three withdrew. Two added current holders. One accepted release only if a Night Ground parent could use the saved corridor capacity.

Pavi helped nobody choose. She read consequences when asked and kept her own form visible.

Farah and four local technicians converted each answer into a separate cancellation challenge. They signed their technical work. Kim’s name remained on source history and nowhere on current instruction.

Room Nine received the first challenge.

Pavi’s heartbeat display stopped.

Her successor box went blank.

The red floor line opened toward the Cairo street.

Pavi crossed one foot at a time.

The contract did not pull her back. Her blank brass tag stayed blank. A local Cairo bus route recognized her fare card without requesting a private address.

She returned to the hall through the public door to test the opposite direction. Entry worked as a current visitor. Room Nine did not reopen her hearing desk.

Her rescue receipt remained in the evidence record. Her body no longer supplied corridor reserve.

At the same instant, one of Night Ground’s private corridor marks disappeared.

Kestrel checked the remaining population.

Five hundred eighty-one residents still lived under the repeating sky. Black Grass occupied three west routes. The local distributed exit could move forty people in its first tested hour if every bearing held.

That route required Post Two, Post Four, Post Six, Post Seven, the current door line, and four Cairo pin keepers. A failure at any point reduced capacity rather than redirecting automatically.

The Woman’s corridor required one shared root and projected reserve. It could reroute strikes across holders without stopping departure.

Slower local exit and faster owned exit were not equivalent products with different morals. They failed differently.

The Woman’s corridor could move forty in eleven seconds.

Pavi stepped onto the public pavement.

Her current release worked.

Behind her, Room Nine printed the consequence across every unfinished challenge.

```
ROOT RELEASE REDUCES NIGHT GROUND
CLEAN EMERGENCY CAPACITY.
FORTY RELEASES CLOSE CURRENT RETURN ROUTE.
```

Cutting the ownership root could free the forty arrivals.

It could also erase the fastest door for everyone they had left behind.
