Night Ground wanted the Woman’s door left open.

Not everyone.

The water line wanted emergency capacity until the clean well had a second route.

The door line wanted it closed before private destinations replaced every local return.

The medicine line wanted thirteen guaranteed patient crossings and no successor field.

The burial line returned no position. It was counting Low Rill names.

Five hundred eighty-one residents could not vote on the forty contracts.

Their survival still depended on the root those contracts supplied.

Pavi stood on the public side of the receiving hall line.

"My release does not close their door."

Room Nine answered:

```
INDIVIDUAL RELEASE REDUCES SHARED RESERVE.
SHARED EFFECT CANNOT BE WAIVED.
```

"Then keep my consequence on me."

```
CORRIDOR RISK IS SHARED.
```

The contract used shared risk after using separate people to carry it.

Farah proposed a staged cut.

Stage one removed projected succession from each traveler who challenged it.

Stage two preserved current holder status only where a current person accepted it.

Stage three kept one emergency Night Ground door proportional to current holders, with no automatic transfer after death.

Stage four closed current warranty only when Night Ground’s local exit reached agreed capacity or the remaining holders released it.

Farah built the stages on four physical switches outside Room Nine.

Each switch controlled one copied layer for a sandbag traveler. The first preserved a stamped arrival receipt. The second powered a model room. The third carried one current holder weight. The fourth displayed an empty successor box.

Cutting switch four removed the box and left the room lit. Cutting three afterward dimmed the room’s remote warranty but did not erase its walls. Cutting two closed the model return door. The arrival stamp remained under every sequence.

Residents handled the switches before signing forms. No screen hid which function disappeared.

Room Nine rejected stages three and four.

```
HOLDER DEATH WITHOUT SUCCESSION CREATES
UNWARRANTED CAPACITY LOSS.
```

"Yes," Farah said. "Capacity can end."

The private venue classified that as unsafe design.

Mariam called it a releasable edge.

Neither label changed the route math.

The local exit had completed three tests.

First test moved four people in eleven minutes.

Two arrived on their feet. One arrived seated on the floor after Post Two lost horizontal force. The fourth returned to Night Ground because Post Six rang the wrong medical pattern. Nobody was injured.

Second moved twelve in twenty-three after Post Six missed a bell.

Bera’s former water partner crossed in that test and reached Cairo after waiting between two door returns for six minutes. She still preferred the local route because no future field appeared.

Third failed when the burial line refused a traveler carrying an unverified grave tag.

The traveler was alive. His coat carried his father’s grave tag for safekeeping. The route could not separate passenger from burial claim and returned both to Night Ground. He removed the tag under current family witness before testing again.

The system was improving. It could not evacuate 581 people before three west Black Grass routes reached housing.

Kestrel asked Night Ground for current minimum private capacity.

The nine local lines returned different numbers.

Medicine asked thirteen.

Water asked forty.

Door asked zero.

Soil light asked twenty-six because two plots could fail together.

Post Seven asked one complete corridor kept unnumbered until harm was current.

Kestrel chose no number for them.

The forty travelers continued individual challenges.

Twenty-seven released projected successor fields.

Their reasons differed.

Pavi had no private address and wanted public movement.

Bera kept current clinic warranty and cut medical succession after local heat and transfer tests passed.

The hotel children removed projected households while their guardians kept the current room term.

Nia kept current holder status and challenged successor routing. Daro still refused release tied to her offer.

The six blank-panel residents removed unallocated future collateral without naming future functions.

Thirteen retained successor fields.

Four had accepted stable-holder terms.

Five preferred working private addresses and the documented defense.

Two delayed because elderly relatives remained in Night Ground.

One wanted more time.

One believed a future family should inherit the corridor because Night Ground children inherited worse duties without a safe address.

Pavi disagreed and did not call that resident fooled.

Farah ran stage one on the twenty-seven.

The Woman did not send guards.

Her private relays changed interpretation.

Successor fields became `CURRENT EMERGENCY RESERVE` whenever a Black Grass strike touched Night Ground. Current reserve could not be cut during active harm under the contracts’ own emergency clause.

Black Grass was always active somewhere along the west routes.

The new label could freeze every challenge forever.

Rina compared source order.

The twenty-seven challenges predated the emergency reclassification by eleven minutes. Their current refusal existed before the venue changed the field.

Room Nine argued emergency clauses applied regardless of filing order.

The chamber judge had no jurisdiction over the private venue. The venue had no public officer to compel.

Pavi took her paper challenge through the open Room Nine wall and placed it on Desk One.

"Current body present. Current refusal predates your label. Process it or say you keep me without terms."

The Woman printed one sentence across all desks.

```
I KEEP THE CORRIDOR THAT SAVES PEOPLE.
```

No sweet face appeared. No apology softened it.

The twenty-seven residents answered separately.

Some said release.

Some accepted current emergency delay with a physical end condition.

Three withdrew until a west route closed.

Twenty-four kept immediate challenges.

Farah cut projected layers through the old cancellation port while local technicians held current rescue receipts apart.

The first nine released cleanly.

Private address effects differed.

One hotel lock lost corridor warranty and continued working with a local key. A river apartment lost remote heat adjustment but kept municipal power. Bera’s local wash heater stayed on. Nia’s receiving-hall desk gained a public exit but her current holder offer kept a separate black line at her feet.

Projected release did not make every private service vanish. It removed the Woman’s guarantee and forced current systems to carry what already existed.

On the tenth, Room Nine routed a live Black Grass strike through the field being cut. The traveler took a black line across his ankle. Iseul treated it as current injury. The cut continued only after he answered yes again.

The line had no open wound. It removed the relation between his heel and shoe for two steps, then returned it crooked. Iseul cut the shoe away and marked the new gait before asking whether he continued.

He asked what happened if he stopped.

"Your projected field stays during the active strike," Farah said. ℴ

"Then continue. Current answer."

His field released. The ankle injury remained.

Twenty-four projected fields went blank.

Three remained under voluntarily accepted delay.

Combined with earlier releases, twenty-seven travelers now held no successor collateral. Thirteen retained it.

Of the thirteen, four were stable holders. Five kept private contracts without accepting holder selection. Three had delayed cuts under a named west-route condition. Nia’s current-holder offer remained incomplete because she rejected succession and Daro rejected release.

Room Nine counted Nia’s current load during strikes and denied her release credit. Her body was useful enough to carry risk and insufficiently owned to free her brother.

The private corridor narrowed.

Its emergency capacity fell from forty bodies in eleven seconds to thirteen.

Night Ground’s local exit moved sixteen in its next test.

For the first time, the slower door carried more people per cycle than the owned one.

The Woman kept her thirteen-person route active.

Kestrel kept testing the local door.

Neither side closed the other.

At Post Nine, the burial line rang without a keeper.

Grave markers around Night Ground turned west.

The first marker carried Omi Quill’s name. His grave had no recovered body, only current death confirmation and family soil.

The marker pulled out of the ground.

Across the settlement, buried bodies lost the relation between bone and grave.

Black Grass had reached the burial line.
