Chapter 240: Upcoming Apocalypse (2)

"And why are you showing me all of this?" Liyu asked directly. He needed to know why the hell he was being told that the world would come to an end someday. Wasn't it better not to know? No...

It was better to know. But that didn't make it any less uncomfortable. Hearing the question, the other Liyu remained silent for a while before turning toward him. The smile never left his face.

"Because you are the one who will stop this." Liyu blinked. "You see, my friend... it is my destiny to make sure this imminent future doesn't come to pass." "But now..."

"I am dead." He said it with a sigh. He almost sounded happy that he was dead. "And you..." He pointed at Liyu. "You inherited my body."

"And when you did that, you also inherited my supposed destiny." "So yes..." "What I wanted to tell you is that all of this..." "You must stop it."

Liyu blinked once. Then twice. And then once again. He pointed at himself. "Me?" "Stop..." He looked at the endless apocalypse raging behind him. Then he looked back at the other Liyu.

"Stop this?" His eyes widened with disbelief. "How the hell am I supposed to do that?" The other Liyu simply shrugged before continuing. "Why do you think I am relieved that I am dead?" Liyu's eyes twitched.

He could take a guess. The guy didn't want the responsibility. "Yes." "You guessed perfectly right." The other Liyu acknowledged it without even an ounce of shame. He pointed toward the apocalyptic world where death, war, and endless destruction could be seen in every corner.

Then he spoke. His tone remained light and warm... A cold contrast to the horrifying scene unfolding around them. "You see, when I realized that I was supposed to stop this, I was totally and utterly devastated." He held his chest and shook his head.

"The scale of the enemy is too much to even begin to fathom." "And let's not even talk about those five beings I am supposed to fight against." "I am worried shitless that I would fail for certain." "Whether I am the promised warrior or not, it doesn't matter."

"I don't see any holy help or heavenly will that can help me survive against what is coming." Liyu's eyes twitched. If, with everything this guy had, he was saying that he was scared shitless... Then just how terrifying must the enemy be to make him feel like that?

The other Liyu sighed deeply and continued. "Those five will break loose, and death and chaos would follow." "If I face off against them..." "I would die." "So dying in the Beast Forest is actually a great relief for me."

Rayden's eyes twitched. What the hell? Did this guy actually plan his own death just to avoid responsibility or what? Liyu shook his head. "No, my friend." "It is not what you are thinking."

"Even if I tried to explain it to you, you wouldn't be able to understand it." "Let's just say dying like that is a terrible mistake..." "But in that mistake came a blessing." He turned toward Liyu with a warm, bright smile on his face. "And you are that blessing, my friend."

Liyu stared at him blankly. He had absolutely no idea what the hell this guy was saying anymore. The other Liyu nodded his head with a bright smile. "As I said, you must stop this threat that will wipe all of humanity out."

"And the good thing is..." "I saw some potential in you." "I showed you all of this because I believe that you would be able to pull it off." "You would be able to do it." He said it as though he were cheering Liyu up.

Liyu's eyes twitched badly. He felt like punching this guy straight in the face. He was dumping his responsibility on him. How shameless! The other Liyu's smile only became warmer as he shrugged.

"Well, maybe I am a little shameless." "But it is just that I can't face this." "But you..." "You might have the chance." "Just so you know what is coming, I should pass you the unfiltered vision."

"The one we are currently seeing can be said to be filtered by over 99.9%." Liyu's eyes widened in shock. "What the hell?" Before he could say anything else, the other Liyu pressed his hand against his forehead.

Instantly... Several scenes flashed across Liyu's mind in sharp bursts. Scenes that would make brutality and destruction look rather nice. The endless death brought forward by ice. The unbearable chill that spread across the world as death crawled toward its victims, ending their lives only after immense suffering.

Then there were the endless bones of doom. They sucked through one's soul, mind, and body, ripping everything apart. It was a nightmare. And speaking of nightmares... There was the Seat of Endless Darkness.

A darkness that consumed all beings. Devoured all. Ended all. It blanketed everything. The sky. The ground. Every-where. Anywhere. It brought doom and despair upon all who looked at it.

And when considering despair... The shadows paled in comparison to the despair brought forth by the blood threads. Anyone pierced by them suffered unbearable agony as they were completely and utterly drained. Their life. Their blood. Their soul.

Their essence. Everything that made them who they were... Everything was sucked dry. Leaving behind nothing but hopelessness. But even the blood threads paled in comparison to the hopelessness brought forward by the billions of flaming meteors that struck the ground.

Again. And again. And again. Without limit. Cities fell into ashes. Entire regions were consumed by flames. And even whole continents were burned to ashes as time continued to pass. Chaos. Endless chaos. It filled everywhere.

And it made everyone feel only one thing. Despair. The end had come. Liyu snapped back to reality... Or rather, back into the dreamy greenery with the other Liyu standing before him. The other Liyu smiled at him.

"Now you see why I said I can't do this." Liyu was covered in cold sweat. What he had seen was too horrifying. Too much for his mind to come to terms with. It would take a rather long time for his mind to process it.

Maybe hours. Maybe days. It even seemed like it could take months before Liyu could regain his senses. The dread had sunk deep into his heart. And at the same time, he had been consumed by it.

He slowly turned his gaze toward the figure called Liyu. "So that is the future..." The other Liyu, who was sitting beside him, nodded. "Yes." "And it is even worse than that."

"Let's just say you can't withstand the full glimpse of the doomed days that are coming." For the first time since their conversation began... The other Liyu's expression finally changed. The smile he had been wearing all this while disappeared. His expression became serious.

"You have seen why I decided not to get my body back from you." "I don't think I would be able to do what I am destined to do." "So I am entrusting the future to you..." "Rayden." Liyu's eyes twitched.

This guy even knew that. For someone who seemed so powerful and omniscient to say that he wouldn't be able to stop the apocalypse meant one thing. The apocalypse was something that transcended the boundaries of the mundane. It was beyond anything that could simply be called an apocalypse.

If one had to describe it with a single word... It would be: "The End." "I summoned you to say this." "Listen up." "I have no fixed timeline for when they will break loose from their chains."

"I have no idea when the apocalypse will begin." "But I can tell you this..." "It won't be long anymore." "Time is running out for you." "And for humanity." "You need to get stronger." "As fast as possible."

"Reach the Soul Stage as soon as possible." "And perhaps..." "We might meet again." "I saw a vast potential within you." "So I am entrusting everything to you." "Rayden." Liyu didn't say anything.

If he could, he probably would have cursed this guy for dumping such an enormous responsibility on him. But after seeing everything... He realized something. Maybe... He was the only one who could save the world.

Liyu chuckled helplessly. Being a hero was totally not part of his plan. Whatever. He would think about it later. "Send me back." Liyu said after a while, looking at the other guy.

Seeing the look in his eyes, the other Liyu nodded with a smile. "Go on, then." "Get stronger as fast as possible." "As much as possible." "We shall meet again, friend." As he said that...

Fog suddenly consumed Liyu's body. His vision blurred. And then... He fainted.

---

In the physical world... Liyu's eyes snapped open.
