My Clones Can Cultivate
Chapter 239: Upcoming Apocalypse (1)
Liyu's mind was foggy as he slowly opened his eyes. His gaze took in his surroundings, but from the look of things, he couldn't see much. The reason was rather simple... there was fog everywhere he looked. It was as if the fog surrounded everything, stretching endlessly in every direction.
Liyu frowned. Where is this place? And why didn't he have any recollection of coming into this place? As his mind gradually cleared, he felt the fog surrounding his body loosen somewhat, allowing him to move more freely.
He began walking through the endless, foggy world, his face scrunching up further as confusion filled his mind. "Hello... is someone there?" Liyu called out. But there was no reply.
The only answer he received was the echo of his own voice, reverberating endlessly through the foggy world. "Hey, Sys... are you there?" Liyu asked inwardly. He expected the familiar chime of the system. But there was nothing.
Several minutes passed, yet there was still no answer from the system. "What is happening here?" Liyu wondered. First, he had no idea how he had reached this place.
The last thing he remembered was winning the tournament... And then he had fainted after everything was over. Now, he was in a place he had no idea about, with no system response and no clue as to how he had gotten here.
As his thoughts wandered, he began to wonder if this was some kind of dream. Then... He saw a bright yellow light deep within the fog. Liyu narrowed his eyes before deciding to walk toward it.
As he approached the light, he suddenly broke through the foggy world. And what greeted him was an entirely different sight. A vast field of greenery stretched endlessly before him, while the sun shone brightly from a clear blue sky above.
Liyu frowned. He immediately turned around and looked behind him. The fogginess had vanished. Behind him was nothing but endless greenery.
Liyu walked through the field, feeling the cool and vibrant energy radiating from the surroundings. He wandered aimlessly for a while, his footsteps carrying him farther and farther through the beautiful landscape. Until eventually...
His feet brought him close to a mountain cliff. Someone was sitting on that cliff. The person was wearing a dark robe, his back facing Liyu as he gazed toward the endless greenery beyond.
"Someone is here." Liyu frowned. If this was a dream, then who had invaded his dream? Or... Had he been brought into someone else's dream?
He didn't linger on the thought. There was only one way to learn whether he had been brought into someone else's dream or someone had invaded his own. He walked toward the cliff.
"Hey... who are you?" The figure facing away from him and toward the endless greenery remained silent for a while. Then...
"Thank you." Liyu blinked. He looked at the person's back, a strange feeling suddenly filling his heart. The person felt so familiar.
And at the same time... He had no idea who he was. "You asked me who I am..." The figure finally spoke. "Well... I am you."
As the figure said that, he slowly turned around to face Liyu. Liyu was instantly shocked. The man was none other than himself. Another Liyu.
"Wait... what?" Liyu blinked repeatedly. Was this some kind of dreamy hallucination or what? He stared at the copy of himself standing before him.
The other Liyu had a small, warm smile on his face. "No, you are not dreaming." The other Liyu paused and shook his head. "No... you are dreaming."
He paused again before shrugging. "But this is a different kind of dream. Not like a dream..." He paused, seemingly struggling to explain it. "You know what? Let's just call this a vision."
Liyu's eyes twitched. Why did this feeling so off? What was this other version of himself even saying with all the nonsense he was spilling from his mouth? The other Liyu looked at him and repeated what he had said earlier.
"Thank you." "For what?" Liyu asked. "For everything." The smile on the other Liyu's face became warmer.
"The fact that you live on in my body and don't make those I care about sad is more than enough." "But you even managed to erase my name as the failure heir and made a good name for yourself." "For myself..."
The other Liyu's expression became sincere. "I am truly grateful." Meanwhile, Liyu's gaze had completely changed. From the man's words, Liyu could tell that this was the old Liyu...
The one whose body he had transmigrated into. But the way this guy spoke was strange. It was as if he had already planned everything. And why did Liyu have such a bad feeling about meeting this guy in this strange dreamlike world?
He wasn't going to try and rip Rayden's soul out and take over the body, was he? Rayden was certainly not someone who would allow himself to be treated unfairly. His gaze instantly changed.
If this Liyu was trying to throw him off and continue living in his body, then Liyu wouldn't simply allow that. He would fight him. Hands down. He had still won.
But then... The other Liyu shook his head. "Don't worry. Relax." "I am not trying to get my body back." "It is of no use."
"I am glad someone even inherited it to begin with." Rayden, who had been on guard, twitched his eyes when he heard that. Glad? It was supposed to be good news that the guy wasn't trying to throw him away from the body.
After all, the fact that this man could do all of this to begin with meant that this Liyu might be far more powerful than anyone had expected. Rayden was totally wary now. He felt as if he had entered a pre-layered trap of some sort, and he couldn't shake the feeling that there wouldn't be any way out of it.
That made his eyes twitch even harder. Liyu walked forward and patted his shoulder. "You have been doing pretty well, friend..." "But there is still a long way to go."
"I might have to break the bad news to you sooner than later." "My friend..." "Your life is in danger." Rayden's eyes shook. "As I said earlier, I am here to show you a vision."
"One that will determine the survival of yours..." "And the rest of humanity." With that, he waved his hand. Following that action, the beautiful greenery suddenly vanished. The entire world was instantly thrown into chaos.
The world seemed to have been plunged into endless war and destruction. Humans fought everywhere. But they weren't fighting to win. After all... They were dying too quickly.
They were only fighting for survival. Rayden looked at the endless warriors dying every second. Then he looked at the ordinary humans being slaughtered like ants. His expression dimmed slightly.
"What is this?" Rayden asked. Liyu answered calmly. "This is your future." Rayden's gaze changed. He looked back at the smiling face of Liyu.
"What the hell?" Indeed... The future looked like hell. Liyu nodded like a wise sage. Rayden's eye twitched. He shook his head.
"I mean, why the hell is the future like hell?" Liyu shrugged as he explained. "Let's say that five terrifying beings that were supposed to be sealed for eternity are going to break loose soon." "And the moment they do..."
"This future will be imminent." Liyu sighed deeply before continuing. "It would be total chaos when those five beings break loose." "The peace the world has known for several centuries would vanish..." "And only despair, dread, and destruction would follow."
Rayden's eyes were filled with complicated emotions. After a moment, he asked another question. "And why the hell are you showing me this?" Liyu had aimed to enjoy his second chance at life in peace. And now... He was supposed to accept the fact that the world he had transmigrated into was doomed?
That was something even the sturdiest and sharpest warrior wouldn't be able to take easily. Based on what this Liyu had said so far, it was easy and good to say that the world was doomed. Death and destruction were coming toward all of humanity.
And let's just say... He had entered the wrong world for his transmigration. This was all too much. Rayden turned his gaze toward Liyu. The other Liyu was looking at the apocalypse appearing all around them with a forlorn expression.
Within those eyes, one could feel that he was both solemn and hurt by what he was seeing. And at the same time... He seemed relieved as well. The relief was clearly shown in his eyes. What was he relieved about?
Rayden decided to ask him another question. "And why are you showing me all of this?" Liyu asked directly. He needed to know why the hell he was being told that the world would come to an end someday. Wasn't it better not to know?
No... It was better to know. But that didn't make it any less uncomfortable. Hearing the question, Liyu remained silent for a while. Then he turned toward Rayden. The smile never left his face.
"Because you are the one who will stop this." Liyu blinked. "You see, my friend..." "It is my destiny to make sure this imminent future doesn't come to pass." "But now..."
"I am dead." He said it with a sigh. Yet strangely, he almost sounded happy that he was dead. "And you..." He pointed toward Rayden. "You inherited my body."
"And when you did that..." "You also inherited my supposed destiny." The smile on Liyu's face remained. "So yes..." "What I wanted to tell you is that all of this..." "You must stop it."
