Chapter 1544 - 1536: Wherever the Gaze Falls, That’s Everlasting: He Must Be Angry

"I don’t know, when he pushed me, he hit the injured spot...then he went to call the nurse."

Although she’s saying she doesn’t know, Violet Zimmerman is thinking that her brother-in-law must be angry; otherwise, he wouldn’t have avoided visiting her all these days.

Daxton Lancaster secretly took a breath, then squatted down to continue taking clothes out of the suitcase, not dwelling on this topic but instead asking her.

"Is your arm getting better?"

After more than ten days, the bandage on Violet’s forehead had been removed, the bruise at the corner of her eye had disappeared, and the cast on her arm was taken off, leaving only a red cloth wrapped around her neck.

Daxton only asked if her injuries were getting better, not how they were on the day of the incident. Violet felt uneasy, suppressing her bitterness, she said.

"It’s almost healed."

"Alright, then bring Joseph some late-night snacks tonight." Daxton placed all the clothes from the suitcase onto the sofa, then closed the suitcase and walked toward the wardrobe.

The tone and actions were natural, as if discussing something very ordinary.

Violet’s lips curled into a slight bitterness, "Okay."

See, this is what a good husband looks like in mother’s eyes, returning from a business trip and not caring about his wife’s health, but instead asking her to continue to allure his younger brother.

Since getting injured, Violet hadn’t gone to dinner at the old master’s place, nor did she go for dinner in the evenings. Daxton didn’t force her, instructing the servants to help Violet pack some food to bring back, while he went to have dinner with the old master.

When Daxton arrived, the Lancaster Family was already gathered. Atlas Lancaster’s three sons had to exchange a few greetings with him, and his brother Joseph Lancaster, upon seeing him, just half-heartedly greeted him as "big brother."

Daxton was puzzled; previously, when he returned from business trips, both siblings would clamor for gifts. Today, his sister Aurora Lancaster was at school for additional lessons, but his brother didn’t ask him for anything either. Could it be...because of his wife Violet Zimmerman?

Daxton’s phoenix eyes darkened slightly, but he still tossed the gift box in his hand to Joseph.

"Big brother got you a pen, a Hero brand one."

If it were before, Joseph would have been elated, but today, he just collected the pen box in front of him and said, "Thanks, big brother."

Then there was no more conversation.

"Daxton, hasn’t Violet’s injury healed yet? I went to see her yesterday, the cast has already been removed."

Not seeing the granddaughter-in-law coming over, the old master asked in confusion.

Daxton smiled and said, "She’s almost healed; the weather is cold, and I’m worried she’ll catch a chill on her wounds, so I didn’t let her come over."

"Oh, I see."

The old master picked up his chopsticks, and others followed suit. Across the table, Eva Hayes scoffed disdainfully, "Sister-in-law, when Daxton was dating, I said this woman was no good, but he wouldn’t listen, insisted on marrying her. You see, it’s been almost half a year since she married in, she hasn’t conceived a child yet, and she’s gotten herself injured. Hmph, even a vase we bought might be sturdier than her!"

Lorelei Howard had always disliked Eva’s sarcasm; only this time, she surprisingly found her words agreeable. If she had intervened back then, perhaps her son wouldn’t have married this daughter-in-law.

Unhappy, she glanced at her son Daxton Lancaster, and once again brought up the topic of medical check-ups.

"Daxton, I’m telling you, if there’s still no news in a few days, I’m taking her to the hospital for a check-up!"

Daxton smiled, picked up his chopsticks, picked some food, and placed it in his bowl.

"Alright, if there’s still no news next month, I’ll listen to you about everything."
