Chapter 1690: Leaving the Ocean
Chapter 1690: Leaving the Ocean
“…How long can we stay in the ocean specifically?” Nodding in response to Vaughn’s words, Valyr took the opportunity to ask the man for clarification regarding the final reward they obtained.
“A week? A month? A year? How long?”
“Er…” Briefly scratching his head as he listened to the young man’s question, Vaughn soon shifted his attention towards Septeine, who took a brief glance at both Valyr and Ataraxia before leaning in to whisper something to him.
Listening to the words she told her, Vaughn went silent for a bit before telling the young man, “According to Septeine over here, the longest duration you can stay in the ocean is an entire year.”
Hearing that, it went without saying that the duo looked at each other in excitement after that, wondering how much their concepts would improve with that much time in their hands.
After all, in less than three months, they were already able to push all of their Intents to 5th Grade, with some of them having been fused together into Intents that went beyond that level.
With them having the ability to reach the most difficult part of the Ocean of Crystallized Truths, as well as the permission to stay within the ocean four times longer than the duration they’ve been initially given…
Who could say it wasn’t possible for them to push all of their Intents to the incredibly mythical Legend Grade?
Though, just as both Valyr and Ataraxia were in the midst of deluding themselves in their thoughts even further, Vaughn’s next words served as a strong wake-up call for them.
“However, if you choose to stay in the ocean for that long, you would have to avoid heading into the ocean for at least three years after that,” said the man, his expression calm.
“Even though your concepts would undoubtedly go through incredible growth with the help of the Ocean of Crystallized Truths, neither I nor Septeine would recommend that you two rely on it too much.”
Noticing the slightly confused expressions that appeared on the duo’s faces in response, Vaughn did not hesitate to enlighten them. “Though the foundations you would build for your concepts would be incredibly sturdy with the help of the ocean’s insights…”
“Would you be able to say the same while trying to use those concepts after that?”
Seeing that the two had gone silent after that, the man continued with a slightly softer tone. “It might not be obvious right now since this is your first time experiencing the ocean’s effects.”
“However, with repeated use, such a side effect would eventually drag you down when you least expect it.”
“So, I’d suggest you two practice some self-disciple and restraint when it comes to the ocean.”
Continuing to remain silent after that, both Valyr and Ataraxia looked at each other in silence as they committed the man’s words to memory.
Then, giving Vaughn a faint nod of acknowledgment in response, the latter decided to ask the man a question related to the current topic. “If we chose to enter the ocean for a shorter duration, how long would we have to refrain from using it?”
“The ratio is basically one is to three.” Seeing that she was the one who informed Vaughn about it earlier, Septeine took it upon herself to respond to the question this time around.
“If you two chose to spend a month in the ocean, then you would have to take at least three months of rest before heading back to the ocean again.”
“Just keep in mind that the longest time you could stay in the ocean is an entire year,” she continued. “Any longer than that, then either I or Sir Quentin over here would have to make a move if that’s the case.”
“Understood.” Not wanting to get on the bad side of two powerful Myths, the two nodded in understanding, reminding themselves to follow this rule from now on.
“Since the two of you have already been informed of everything you need to know, I suppose now’s the right time for us to part ways,” said Vaughn after a bit of silence, giving Quentin a nod as he and Septeine looked ready to depart.
However, just as the two were about to do just that…
“Wait a second.”
“Hmm?” Hearing Valyr speak to him, Vaughn stopped in his tracks as he turned to look back. “Something else in mind?”
“Well…” Briefly taking in their current environment, the young man took in a deep breath before looking at the man in the eye. “Since we’ve cleared the trial here, would anyone else not be able to take the trial anymore?”
“They would.” Surprisingly, Quentin was the one who answered the question this time around. “However, compared to the rewards the two of you have obtained, they would receive far less.”
“For one, they wouldn’t have the privilege to make use of the ocean as much as they want,” said the man, to which Vaughn faintly nodded in agreement. “They would only be able to receive my legacy, as well as one of the Concept Shards at most.”
“Perhaps I’d stop testing if all of the Concept Shards here have been taken, perhaps not.” Quentin slightly shrugged, only to then give the two a slight grin.
“However, thanks to the two of you, this memory extension of mine is now free leave this place from time to time.”
“Truly the ones that have finally set me free.”
Faintly smiling in response to his words, Valyr and Ataraxia gave the man a slight nod, only to then turn towards Vaughn and Septeine before giving them faint nods as well.
“Now it’s time for us to truly part us.” Waving farewell to the two, both Septeine and Vaughn disappeared from the duo’s field in an instant, with the latter informing Valyr to find the time to head the Four Pillars’ Inheritance in the near future.
Getting the feeling that it had something to do with the request he asked from him regarding the Alltide’s curse, the young man nodded in return, telling him that he’d head there once he had ascended to Rank 5.
As for Quentin, after seeing Vaughn and Septeine disappear before them, the man went ahead and bade farewell to the two as well, dissipating into thin air before the two could even respond back to him.
Seeing that they were the only ones that remained on the Sanctum of Crystallized Truths, the two briefly looked at each other, only to then glance at the ocean that existed far above them.
“So…”
“How are we gonna get out of this place?”
