Chapter 1689: Wrapping It Up
Chapter 1689: Wrapping It Up
“…I see.”
Faintly nodding in understanding after Vaughn was done with his explanation, both Valyr and Ataraxia went silent for a bit as they organized all of the information they obtained from him regarding the significance of the First Myth.
After that, the two went over their respective legacies, briefly discussing over the various things they could tackle and implement before they ascended to Rank 5.
Unsurprisingly, both Valyr and Ataraxia felt that they could incorporate some of the passive skills that were included in their legacies, considering that having them would boost their respective abilities to a certain degree.
But of course, such skills would only become incredibly important once one aims to break through the shackles of mortality and become a Myth.
“I suppose that’s all, then?” Once they were done discussing their plans after leaving the Ocean of Crystallized Truths, Valyr and Ataraxia looked at Vaughn as the former asked him a question. “How do we get out of this place?”
“What’s the hurry?” Vaughn let out a slight chuckle in response to the questions. “The legacies you’ve obtained only make up a part of the rewards you obtain from clearing the Trial of Crystallized Truths.”
“There’s more?” Hearing those words leave the man’s mouth, both Valyr and Ataraxia glanced at each other for a bit, their eyes glistening with a hint of anticipation and excitement.
At the same time, Valyr could not help but send a message to Ataraxia through their connection, gloating over the current situation. ’Told you it’d be worth coming down here before our time at the ocean was up.’
Rolling his eyes in response to the young man’s words, Ataraxia went ahead and followed behind Vaughn and the others, seeing as they were heading to another part of the island.
With Valyr following after him soon after, the five of them eventually arrived at a part of the island that hadn’t been transformed by Quentin’s aura.
“What… are those?” Glancing at the lines of what looked to be colorful crystal shards slightly jutting out of the ground, Valyr got the feeling that the shards were connected to the universe one way or another.
“Those are Concept Shards,” said Vaughn in response, prompting the two to look at him with eyes widened in great disbelief. “Well, to be more specific, they’re Crystallized Nomological Shards refined to contain the Concept of the First Myth.”
Briefly recalling the time Vaughn used Crystallized Nomological Shards to improve his concepts back at the Four Pillars’ Inheritance, it did not take long for both Valyr and Ataraxia to understand what Concept Shards were.
“How many of the shards can we take, Sir Vaughn?” asked Ataraxia, glancing at Vaughn. “Also, are these the other rewards you mentioned earlier.”
“They are.” Vaughn nodded in response. “As for how many, since the two of you are the first to clear this trial, you’re free to take two shards each.”
“However, keep in mind that the shards contain varying portions of Quentin’s Concept,” he continued, a slightly amused smile tugging on his lips. “The worst shard among them contains the first version of the Concept Quentin formed.”
“On the other hand, the best one contains the latest version of his Concept.”
“With that said, it’s all up to you on what shards you end up taking.”
Taking in a deep breath to compose themselves after hearing those words, the two decided to move closer towards the Concept Shards, counting the total number of shards available while also assessing the various auras they were giving off.
Though they were able to count that there were around 50 Concept Shards in front of them, with how the shards themselves were arranged, the two weren’t able to distinguish which of the shards contained the stronger Concept.
’It really is up to luck, then,’ said Valyr to Ataraxia through their connection.
’Let’s hope it’s on our side,’ replied Ataraxia, giving his other self a wry smile.
Deciding to let Valyr go first this time around, Ataraxia took a few steps back in response, giving the former enough space to better sense the differences between the various shards.
Focusing on the shards that gave off auras that aligned with some of the concepts he’d already comprehended, the young man eventually pulled two shards out of the ground.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Briefly sensing that the Concepts contained within the shards he chose were stronger than average, a faint smile appeared on Valyr’s face as he allowed his other self to grab his own set of shards.
Of course, with Valyr having already grasping the general arrangement of the shards beforehand, it took far less time for Ataraxia to choose his shards, taking out two that were the adjacent to one another.
Whoosh!
Taking a few steps back to get a better look at the shards he grabbed, a wide grin soon appeared on Ataraxia’s face after realizing that one of the shards he took contained what felt like the best version of Quentin’s Concept.
“It seems luck is on your side,” said Vaughn with a slight chuckle, glancing at the shards the two had obtained.
Turning to look at Valyr’s shards, the man said, “For you, you grabbed a shard that contains the Stage 2 [Concept of the Metallurgist] and a shard that contains the Stage 2 [Concept of the Battle Lord].”
“As for you…” Shifting his gaze towards Ataraxia, a look of surprise appeared on Vaughn’s face as he glanced at the shards the former obtained. “Well, color me surprised.”
“Not only did you grab a shard that contains the Stage 1 [Concept of Pure Mana]…”
’Looks like I’ve got a better haul,’ thought Valyr to himself after hearing that.
“…But you also got a shard that contains the Stage 4 [Concept of the Arcane Maestro].”
’…Damn.’
Spending a bit of time after that talking through [Soul Entanglement] about their gains, Valyr and Ataraxia eventually kept their respective Concept Shards in their spatial bracelets.
“Say, Vaughn… how do you use Concept Shards?” After making sure that the shards they grabbed were secured within their spatial storage, the two went ahead and asked the man before them a question.
“There are two methods,” replied Vaughn, not surprised that the two of them would ask him about it. “The first method is ingestion.”
“By doing this, all of the concepts you have that are related to the Concept contained within the shard will get a decent boost.”
“In terms of how quick the boost is, it’s pretty instant,” Vaughn continued. “However, I’d suggest you use it the second way, which is to use it as an aid while furthering your comprehension.”
“Though the effects it has is more subtle and takes a lot more time to become noticeable, it allows your concepts to reach far greater heights in the long run.”
“Aside from that, the last reward you two shall obtain for clearing the Trial of Crystallized Truths is unlimited and unrestricted access to the Ocean of Crystallized Truths.”
Seeing the excited expressions on the duo’s faces, the man added, “Then again, although I say unlimited and unrestricted, there is still a certain limit to how long you could stay in the ocean, lest others take note of it.”
“However, aside from that, you can peruse the ocean as much as you want.”
“…And I think that’s pretty much everything the trial has to offer.”
