Milf Acquisition System
Chapter 29: Blind Audit
Lucas stared at the glowing red text hovering in the quiet corporate hallway.
The System warned him that an external third party was investigating his forged identity. The routing numbers he altered on page forty-seven had triggered an automated banking alert.
He had successfully manipulated two of the most dangerous women in the financial district but he had forgotten about the automated safety nets of modern banking.
He dismissed the prompt. Panic was a luxury he could not afford right now.
He walked down the sleek glass corridor and found the office of the acquisitions director. A stressed man named Mads sat behind a cluttered desk. Lucas dropped the heavy black folder right in front of him.
"Ms. Verman wants this filed with the city immediately," Lucas said.
Mads looked at the Vertex Management logo on the cover and swallowed hard. "I will have it couriered to the municipal clerk within ten minutes."
The trap was officially locked into the public record.
Lucas turned around and walked back to Camilla’s private office. He pushed the heavy glass doors open and stepped inside. He reached behind him and turned the deadbolt. The lock engaged with a solid metallic click.
Camilla was waiting for him. She was leaning back against the edge of her massive marble desk. The dark green fabric of her dress hugged her curves perfectly. She watched him lock the door with a hungry gleam in her piercing green eyes.
"It is filed," Lucas announced.
Camilla let out a soft laugh. She reached out and grabbed his silk tie. She pulled him forward until he was standing between her thighs.
"You just handed me the financial district," Camilla murmured. She looked up at him with raw possessive heat. "Victoria is going to lose her mind when the city announces the transfer."
Lucas rested his hands on her waist. The physical contact sent a familiar jolt of heat through his veins.
He used his Somatic Composure to keep his heart rate steady. He needed her to think the tension in his muscles was from the thrill of corporate espionage.
"She deserves it," Lucas replied smoothly.
He leaned down and kissed her. Camilla met him with eager aggression. She parted her lips and tangled her fingers into his hair. The kiss was a frantic celebration of her perceived victory.
She tasted like mint and dark cherry.
Lucas deepened the kiss. He slid his hands down the smooth fabric of her dress and gripped her hips.
He pulled her flush against him. She let out a soft moan and arched her back. The ruthless developer loved the physical dominance he projected.
He pulled away just enough to let them breathe.
"I have to go," Lucas whispered against her jawline.
Camilla frowned. She kept her arms wrapped around his neck. "You just locked my door."
"I have to officially close out my independent consulting firm," Lucas explained. "If I am going to stand by your side publicly I cannot have Victoria’s legal team looking for loose ends in my old contracts. I need to scrub my office servers before she realizes what I stole from her today."
Camilla searched his eyes for a moment. She respected the logistical caution. It proved he was treating their new partnership seriously.
"Go," Camilla said softly. She brushed her thumb across his cheek. "Do what you must, then come back."
"I will," Lucas promised.
He unlocked the heavy glass doors and walked out of Verman Development. He stepped onto the bustling city sidewalk and hailed a taxi. He gave the driver the address for Vertex Management.
He settled into the back seat and opened the System interface in his mind.
He had eleven hundred Acquisition Points remaining. He needed to know exactly who received that automated banking alert. He browsed the Skill Shop and selected a digital surveillance tool.
[Financial Network Tracing (Level 1) - Cost: 300 AP]
[Description: Grants the Host the ability to track digital alert pathways and identify the origin of external financial audits.]
He confirmed the purchase. A sudden rush of technical knowledge flooded his brain. He pulled out his cracked smartphone and accessed a basic internet browser.
His fingers flew across the screen as the System guided his search through public corporate registries and compliance nodes.
He found the answer in less than two minutes.
The alert was sent to a private risk management firm. The firm was owned and operated by Harrison.
Lucas let out a harsh breath. Harrison was the lead investor on Camilla’s board of directors.
He was the silver-haired man who had interrogated Lucas at the charity gala. Harrison monitored all massive shifts in Camilla’s corporate liquidity.
The sudden inclusion of an offshore trust in a domestic zoning contract had triggered his automated compliance software.
Harrison’s analysts were currently digging into the contract. They would see the name Lucas Vintage attached to the delivery. They would run a deep background check on his forged identity.
If Harrison dug deep enough he would hit the firewall built by the Vertex Management fixer team. Harrison would realize Lucas was a manufactured ghost. The entire double-agent narrative would collapse.
The taxi pulled up to the towering glass structure of Vertex Management.
Lucas paid the driver and stepped out. He needed to stop Harrison’s audit before it gained traction. He could not hack a risk management firm on his own. He needed heavy cyber artillery.
He rode the private elevator up to the executive suite.
Victoria Sterling was standing by her wet bar. She was pouring two glasses of expensive scotch. She wore a sharp tailored suit and carried herself with the relaxed posture of a conqueror. She turned around and offered him a dark victorious smile.
"Tell me she signed it," Victoria commanded softly.
"She signed it without reading the fine print," Lucas confirmed. "Her acquisitions director just filed the letter of intent with the city."
Victoria handed him a glass of scotch. "To the fall of Camilla Verman."
Lucas tapped his glass against hers. He took a sip. The liquor burned a smooth path down his throat.
"There is a complication," Lucas said.
Victoria stopped smiling. She lowered her glass. Her dark eyes narrowed with instant suspicion. The founder of Vertex Management did not tolerate complications.
"Explain," Victoria demanded.
"Camilla did not read the fine print," Lucas said while keeping his voice level. "But Harrison did. He is the lead investor on her board. His risk management firm runs an automated compliance check on all her major contracts. His analysts are reviewing the liability section right now."
Victoria frowned. Her Micro-Motive Perception data flared with a spike of genuine concern.
"If Harrison’s analysts trace the metadata on that contract they will find the digital signature of my legal team," Victoria murmured. Her mind was already racing through the legal ramifications. "They will see the trap before the regulatory default takes effect. They will void the contract."
"They are also looking into me," Lucas added. "Since I delivered the file. If they dig into my background they might find the firewall your fixers built for me. They will know I am your asset."
Victoria set her glass down on the mahogany desk. She did not panic. She transitioned into a state of cold corporate warfare.
"We cannot allow a third-party audit to touch that contract," Victoria stated. She reached for her desk phone. "I am deploying my cyber security division. They will flood Harrison’s risk management servers with phantom data requests and throw up a military-grade firewall around the zoning files."
Lucas took another sip of his scotch to hide his relief.
It was a brilliant double-bluff. Victoria believed she was deploying her cyber team to protect her poisoned trap.
She had no idea she was actually deploying them to protect Lucas’s forged routing numbers. Her elite hackers were going to blind Harrison and secure the offshore trust out of sheer ignorance.
"Tell your team to wipe any digital trace of my involvement," Lucas suggested smoothly. "Harrison is paranoid. If he hits a blank wall he will assume Camilla is just hiding her proprietary margins."
"My team knows how to build a wall," Victoria replied as she dialed a secure extension. "You did well today Lucas. You secured the signature and caught the audit before it broke the deal."
"I am just protecting my career," Lucas said.
Victoria paused before she pressed the call button. She looked at him with a heavy unreadable gaze. She stepped around the desk and closed the distance between them.
She reached out and rested her hand on his chest. Her manicured fingers traced the edge of his lapel. The scent of jasmine perfume washed over him.
"You are protecting my interests," Victoria corrected him softly. "And I reward loyalty. When this deal closes next month and Camilla is ruined you will not just be my attaché. I am going to give you a seat on the board."
Lucas maintained his composure. The founder of Vertex Management was offering him a permanent place in her empire. She was rewarding him for a victory she had not actually won.
"I look forward to the promotion," Lucas replied.
Victoria offered a slow dangerous smile. "Go home Lucas. Rest. You did good."
Lucas nodded and walked out of the executive suite. He rode the elevator down to the lobby with a steady heart rate.
He had survived the day. The System notification hovering in his peripheral vision confirmed that Harrison’s audit had been successfully intercepted and blocked by Victoria’s cyber team.
He stepped out of the Vertex building and into the afternoon sun. He needed to go back to his real apartment to grab a few fresh shirts before heading to Camilla’s penthouse for the night.
He arrived at his crumbling brick building and pushed through the front door.
He stepped into the ground-floor hallway and stopped.
Evelyn Higgins was standing in the hallway holding a small cardboard box. She wore her faded floral wrap dress and her hair was tied back in a messy bun. She looked up when she heard his footsteps.
Her brown eyes widened slightly. A heavy layer of awkward guilt settled over her posture. She tightened her grip on the cardboard box.
"Lucas," Evelyn murmured. Her voice was hesitant.
"Evelyn," Lucas said gently. "Everything is fine. You don’t have to look at me like that."
"I know," Evelyn said. She looked down at the floor. "I was just checking the mailboxes. I received a certified letter for you."
She held out the cardboard box. It was not a normal package. It was a heavy sealed lockbox with a biometric thumb scanner on the top. The return address was blank.
Lucas frowned. He walked over and took the box from her hands. It was surprisingly heavy.
"The courier said it requires your specific thumbprint to open," Evelyn explained softly. She took a step back to maintain her physical distance. "He said it was a matter of urgent corporate security."
Lucas stared at the biometric scanner. Neither Camilla nor Victoria used archaic physical lockboxes. They operated entirely in the digital space.
A new blue window suddenly shattered the air in the dingy hallway.
[Warning: High-Tier Threat Detected.]
[The external party has bypassed the digital firewall.]
[Harrison did not rely solely on digital audits. He deployed a physical private investigator to secure leverage against you.]
Lucas felt his stomach drop.
He had stopped the digital audit but the lead investor had outmaneuvered him in the real world.
He stared at the sealed box and wondered what piece of his fake life Harrison had managed to dig up.
